- In this video I am checking out the BRAND NEW for 2020 Charvel So Ca made in Mexico - seen here in Satin Orange Blaze. The first 2020 model to come to Europe thanks very much to the very generous people at Charvel for sending this fine specimen of a guitar over to try out.

More comfortable than an overstuffed armchair, the So-Cal body is sleekly sculpted out of alder and paired with a rock-solid bolt-on maple neck with a pair of graphite reinforcement rods to handle the ravages of the road and climate. A conveniently located heel-mount spoke wheel allows for rapid truss rod tweaks, even in between songs. Engineered for effortlessly nimble playing, the speed neck profile and 12"-16" compound radius ebony fingerboard with 22 frets is perfect for all styles of play - from low end riffing to soaring leads with worry-free upper-register bends.

Yes all EVH Floyds are top-mount, but I haven't found an EVH that I like.
Can I ask what's the difference when playing the two different mounting styles of FR
G Holmes The top mount Floyd is better for heavy palm muting because there’s much less chance of mashing it down & going sharp.

That looks just like Schecter sun valley shredder. That note 53 seconds hit the spot.
quit293 schecter basically ripped this one off. Not hating on the sun valley, I have one and I love it.
Actually the Schecter sun valley shredder lambo orange was released in 2016 so if anything, Charvel did the copying. Both stunning guitars!
Paul Smith orange is nothing new to Charvel and this model has been around since the 80’s. Schecter had a super strat with a Floyd in the 80’s too but, Charvel did theirs first. Both ripped off fender though.

So basically the reason why the SoCal’s are brighter is because the Duncan distortion sets versus the JB/59 that’s used in the San Dimas is a much higher output pick up with a large ceramic magnet as opposed to alnico in the JB’s that means more output and much more trouble it’s brighter and more powerful. on Duncan’s website they actually provide an EQ chart for all the pick ups and you could see that for the distortion set the treble and midrange is really up hope that helps 👍

I wanted one in hot pink but I didn’t pull the trigger fast enough. I have the SoCal in trans purple burst. I like ebony on my Soloist but on my Charvels I like maple- can’t say why. Nice color and great guitar!

@@blkjakk The first guy that's on my "Music..." playlist is the man I bought it from, he is my uncle Mark Davis. He bought it when I was about 5 years old and he was about 14ish I can't remember. $400.00 buck when I was 17. He threw in an amp. I really don't know the exact age it is but it's a pride to have. I have a Gibson hummingbird and a Martin acoustic my father handed down. Tell me what you think of him maybe, he was born to play and I honestly am not as good. Take it easy;)...

you simply cannot beat SD pickups...which do you prefer Distortions or classic JB/59 combo?
JB and 59 if I had to pick from Duncans. But I've always preferred DiMarzios.
What pickup routing does this one have under the scratchplate? Just the 2 humbucker cavities? Curious about modding options.

Have the exact same guitar. Matter-of-fact have several of the same Charvels you do. Put a maple neck on it though and there went the brightness you were talking about... I like the Ash/Ebony combination and Alder/Maple combination

Literally no different. Jackson's typically have slightly thicker necks however. But otherwise the same

Need help......I'm tossed between the purple San Dimas (same as Cam's) and this orange So Cal.....Different pickups. I'm a huge fan of the '59 and JB so I'm leaning towards the San Dimas. FYI.....I play blues, classic rock and 80's rock

Does the ebony board sound different to you? To me it does. I have DK24 FR Okoume ebony and i just love it. Could be also Full Shred Duncan that makes me like it so much. After years of swapping JBs and Custom 5s i have finally found my pickup 🤘

In short Ibanez guitars have super thin necks which I am not a fan of at all

I really like this finish. For sure reminds me of candy tangerine, more so batch 4 of the USA San Dimas style 2. Here's hoping to So Cal style 2 in this finish

I think it would take a very long time for that to happen. I've never experienced that with a matte finish

Was almost ready to buy a 5150 standard before this, how do you compare these?
If I could sum it up. They both do the job equally well, feel very similar. It all comes down to what you like the look of. However you get more tones out of a Charvel thanks to the six pack of sound coil split feature.
Did you have to do any tweaking at all on the neck/truss rod to get the bendability and action where you wanted or did it come perfect out of the box?
I've never had to do that on any guitars. If a guitar arrives and it's different from another in terms of set up I just leave it and adapt to a new feeling guitar. I never adjust anything...
