Yes the dodgers gave up more than just verdugo. Verdugo who was a top 10 prospect the year prior. Was playing decently for LA. But he wasn't anywhere close to Betts level. The dodgers also gave up prospects Conner wong and Jeter Downs who was another very good prospect. Plus LA has to take David price who was past his prime and was one of the highest paid players at the time. Though i think Boston ate a portion of his contract.

He refused several long term extensions the Red Sox offered him dating back to 2017. He openly said he was going to test free agency so rather than losing him for nothing he and Price another guy who OPENLY complained about the city and fans and wanted out and started the rebuild knowing our farm system was destroyed by Dombrowski. If you're unable to handle a 3 year playoff drought my guess is you're less than 30 years old and are just as spoiled as all the Yankees fans you complain about.

It’s the worst trade in the history of the Red Sox franchise besides Ruth. I think the thing that’s isn’t talked about too is how much he’s getting paid. he’s the 17th highest paid player in baseball on average. That’s a good deal for the dodgers money wise. They ended up underpaying for him and raping the Sox with the players they sent over. It’s a franchise altering trade. Period.

It was. But people actually believing that the Yankees were going to comeback from a 3-0 deficit even had they still won game 5 are wishful thinkers, not at all paying attention to the 100+ history of the game.
It’s only happened once, we all know that. And it wasn’t in a WS. It wasn’t happening this WS either.
The Yanks received a GIFT themselves in GM4 with the Dodgers having to employ a “bullpen” game with their low-leverage pitchers (due to their injury situation with their starting pitching this season). Until that happened, the Yankees were lifeless. They weren’t getting another bullpen game again. That wasn’t happening.
Buehler or Yamamoto would have won them a game at Dodger Stadium during the final 2. My money would have been on Buehler, but not shocked of Yamamoto pitched again like he did in game 2.

Yes, it was a terrible trade, but what many people forget is that the Red Sox tried for months to negotiate a new contract with Betts before he reached Free Agency. Betts continually declared that he wanted the free agent market to determine his true value. Not once or twice but for months he sang the same song - I want to test the market so I'm valued according to the market. The Red Sox would have gotten a compensation pick if they waited for Betts to leave through FA. Once traded to the Dodgers, Betts signed a contract practically before his flight touched down at LAX. The Red Sox got a terrible deal no doubt. BTW, last year Betts tried to re-write the story by claiming her always wanted to remain in Boston, which the facts contradict.

Betts was not going to resign with Boston. He turned down every attempt at a long term extension from the team. They offered him a 8 year extension in 2017 he refused, turned down a 10 year extension in 2019. Everyone here STILL whining almost five years after the trade would be complaining even more if he left in free agency and we got nothing back. We turned the Betts trade into an all star catcher and a promising pitching prospect (via Verdugo for Fitts). No it's not face of the franchise for face of the franchise but guess what that wasn't going to happen for an expiring contract AND unloading Price who OPENLY complained about his time in Boston.

In the FSG empire the Red Sox are not even the crown jewel, that is, of course Liverpool. Eveyone in baseball knew that Betts could be a contender for leauge MVP yet the Red Sox just wanted to dump salary and dress it up as a trade.
