That is a find of a Career. I’m a digger in the U.S. and I find the differences in attitude as to what is old and what isn’t interesting. Where I am on the east coast of America a really old find would be the early 1700s and the outstanding ones in the 1600s. You mentioned one coin from the mid 1800s as not being that old. It’s all a matter of perspective my friend. Enjoyed the hunt and will continue to watch.
Normal ploughing is of the order of 100mm to 200mm (4 to 8 inches), for special deep ground modification a one off of up to 500mm (20 inches), but is pretty rare in normal farm work. So you can be pretty sure that axe head is near enough exactly where it was originally placed. Awesome find.
@@thescottishdetectorist Yup for sure. friend of mine found a set of 5 or 6 several years ago, cannot recall the exact details, but think they were aligned North / South. Evidently them being aligned is not unusual and often in such cases, they were damaged or part broken up and suggested such events were associated with them being offered to the Gods in some way. Though think it is probably guesswork as to the true reasons for such events.
John just doing a binge watch … OMG what a formidable find … a Bronze Age axe head thousands of years old … bet this got your heart beating didn’t it ?
I graduated from high school in 1976. Nice Victoria 1876! Love finding coins with certain dates revelant to myself. Congratulations on finding the bronze ax head! What a find!
Absolutely brilliant find! That ax head is historic, I also loved seeing you find that wonderful Queen Victoria coin. That day was worth a couple drams of Glenlivet!
Lovely! Such fun watching your "greatest hits" im glad you now start the vids laying on the ground on the ones that you find landmark artifacts. Good job!
I felt a bit light-headed when you found that axe-head. It was crying out to you very loudly from the ground: "Get the Sun on me after thousands of years in the dark"! Thrilling discovery, I bet you felt shaky after finding that awesome treasure!
Fantastic find! So thrilled for you, and great that you've shared that wee moment with others. I found my own Axe two years ago, and that's a special find and a special feeling. Reported it to the PAS and found that it comes from the earliest Middle Bronze Age (c. 2000 - 1700 BC) - the Arreton type. Well done man. And thanks for all the great clips, love them.
I thought i would have a look at some of your earlier videos mate. This.....this.....is a thing of beauty. To think you are teh first person to see and hold this in 3000 to 4000 years!!!! Awesome.👏👏👏👏👏👏
I found a Palstave bronze age axe head a few years ago. Only a few inches below the surface. It had been brought up by the plough and it had cleaned it on one side but , thankfully had not damaged it.
Just watched this video. Great find. I recently found a socketed Bronze Age axe head but just the tip which was similar to yours. I was buzzin just like you were. Incredible find. Well done.
Great find John, and really nice to meet you guys in Detectival. Please feel free to add me on Facebook, maybe we meet in Scotland or the next Detectival 👍🏻
Epic is an understatement. It is a thing of beauty, and was last held by a human 3-4000 years ago. Wow. Just think about that. Congratulations ✌🏻🤩😎. Dig a bigger hole.. there will me more.😬
Well done mate on what looks to be a beautiful palstave axe head. I have been searching 40 years and apart from the loop of a socketed and looped axe head and the broken socket of a spearhead I have not had a single tool or weapon. BA is everwhere up here but I cant find a single piece of it.
I’m super new to metal detector stuff, so do you have any advice for someone just getting into it? Or any particular common kinds of places that you can usually find cool stuff?
Glad you like Cleggy. Yes, we’ve been doing really well. Wish I’d a TH-cam channel years ago when we were finding two Roman coin hoards and lots more besides but the internet barely existed back then! Any help much appreciated! Maybe we can get you up to Scotland for a hunt and vice versa and see the Xp Goldmaxx versus the might CTX!! Plus a few jars of Scottish ale 🍺
Is he a Detectorist like yourself? Once work starts to calm down maybe we can get you up to Scotland to search for treasures and sink a few jars of Scottish ale! 🍻

Incredible to think that’s the first time it’s seen the light of day in over 2,500 years!!

I’m super new to metal detector stuff, so do you have any advice for someone just getting into it? Or any particular common kinds of places that you can usually find cool stuff?
Spend over £500 and stick at it. Learn the sounds and how it works and do your research on what machine to get!! Then get detecting!!
You find some epic relics.
I've been watching all of your videos and I'm going to give you a shout out which should give you a few hundred subscribers
