      I’ve got some battle report plans for later in the year, I’ll start small, but would like to do ones for both larger scenarios I’m planning. Now wether I’ve painted both starter sets this year is a bigger question 😅😂

    Great to see your plans for the Waterloo part of your project. I’ve often thought of doing something similar, and I think that’s the best bit of the battlefield to choose. The classic attack by D’Erlon, and the repulse by Picton followed by the Union Brigade. Brilliant stuff! 👍.

      Thank you 😊
      That was my thinking, a really nice mix of many different kinds of combat during the day. Massed columns, cavalry charge, counter cavalry charge, fighting around a building. Just hope I can squeeze it on the table 😂

    Another good update, sorry to hear about the Covid, but at least it wasn't too serious! Those officers are ace and I'm very much behind you doing more build/painting videos. Cheers for the mention and clarifying what you think la Haye Saint is capable of on the table. I am definitely thinking of getting one at some point... I like the planning for D'Erlons attack as well, I am more in favour of historical OOBs rather than some number crunching with a points list.

    I’ll be setting my table slightly further East with Le Haye Sainte being just off the Western side of the table and indicated by a couple of walls. Apart from that we’ll be doing similar units; 5th and 8th KGL are done as are 6th Dragoons and Scots Greys.
    I have the old GW grass cloth mat so all my terrain revolves around that. I’ve had it years and it’s still going strong.

    Great vid Stew! That black line you drew around that section of Waterloo is SUPER helpful in visualizing an idea of how much you can get on a table comfortably. I assume you are drawing what is meant to be a 4 x 6 table around that area? I missed whether or not you mentioned that. But it would make sense. Looks like in this scale you can a fairly decent chunk of Waterloo onto a 4 x 6. Same approach I use for Epic Scale when doing Gettysburg on a 4 x 6. You can get the entire center of the battlefield onto a 4 x 6, or you can get the town of Gettysburg proper and the hills just to the east and south (Cemetery and Culp's). Or you can do the southern section of the field with everything from the angle at the stone wall down to the Round Tops.
    It's what I love about this scale. You also picked a good section of the battle for the table, since you've got that nifty four-way junction with the roads, with some buildings thrown in for good measure.
    Great stuff, keep up the good work!

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Mike.
      Yeah it’s a loose 6x4, I’ve just eyeballed it, I’ve not worked out any ground scale at all. If I tried to match the scale of La Haye Sainte it would be a much smaller area, so loads of abstraction, and it might be a squeeze to get it all on, but it will be fun and that’s the most important part for me.

    I'm just viewing a picture of the lane south of Papelotte Farm . Its an enclosed canopy of overgrown Hedgerows( think a W shape with path in middle). So mark it down as limited width to travel down , impossible to cross width ways unless skirmishing Infantry losing 2 moves and disordered

  • @haroldhardrada7449
    @haroldhardrada7449 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    By my calculation you just might be able to it everything on a 6 x 4 table. After most of Bylandt's brigade fell back Picton's seven battalions were in a single line (presumably each battalion was four deep given the frontage they occupied). The two brigades were separated, but the gap was partially filled by the 7th Belgian line. Therefore, 8 battalions each occupying about 5" of frontage (two stands wide by two deep) would probably occupy about 4' of frontage - leaving 2' for the West side of the road.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it’s a squeeze, but that was my calculation too. I’ll have to think about the way I represent the 4 deep line, as putting the stands in two lines is the ‘in game formation’ for attack column, but there’s lots of ways of doing that, even if it’s just removing stands and adding them back if the formation changes, or still keeping them two deep, but leaving half and inch/1 cm gap.

    • @haroldhardrada7449
      @haroldhardrada7449 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In Black Powder troops that can form four deep line cannot form attack column, so there shouldn't be any confusion. This seems to apply to British trained troops only - although there is no mention of Hanoverians forming 4 deep line. Personally, I would allow it.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s a good point, I might still try and do something different to make it more visually pleasing, but for game terms you’re spot on.

    • @Edward-Plantagenet
      @Edward-Plantagenet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MiniatureRealms Yeah there are a few formations introduced by the supplements that get difficult when using 4 stands per battalion, even more so if you need to be down to 3. Pondered this long and hard with various options we were considering using 15-18mm figures (also 4 bases per battalion) and, IIRC, I decided to use a T type formation (2 in line at the front with 2 in column behind and in the centre of them) to differentiate between 4 deep line and Attack Column. The same principle for Cavalry Deep Formation, another supplement rule, not sure if that one features in the A5 rule books. Neither would be used often I suspect but handy when terrain limits the standard line formation, the reason deep line was used IRL.
      There is also closed vs open square. I plan to use a standard square layout for open square and for closed square I'll have basically a column of 4 stands, front two facing forward and rear two facing the rear.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Some good thoughts here, it’s something I’ve been pondering, and have a few ideas I’m going to cover in a future vlog.

  • @Edward-Plantagenet
    @Edward-Plantagenet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great update (this is Ade BTW - profile update LOL). At one point, while STILL waiting for my stuff to arrive I did ponder just sticking to the standard base sizes for sake of ease but, as we plan to play Bataille Empire and General d'armed too, decided to stick with the half width base sizes. Bonus of course is that I end up with more than enough units to do the whole of D'Erlon's Corps along with several heavy cavalry regiments. The British / Allied I'll also be able to do pretty much all of I and II Corps along with almost the entire Reserve division. As I will have so many I'm thinking of using 6 stands for large battalions, 4 for standard and 2-3 for small. 2 would be better on the OCD front (2, 4, & 6 etc.) but 2 maybe a bit too small. It will give me some use for all the extra Highlander battalions I'll be left with (e.g. I'll have 6 not 3). Will have to check if there were more kilted Highlanders in the Peninsular than the 3 at Waterloo.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Ade 😊
      Your plan sounds pretty good to me. I still have something nagging about maybe splitting the command stand on mine, reducing the frontage but still being able to easily form square, but then I remember I’m very likely just sticking with BP, so there’s other ways around this. I think I’ll probably cover some of my potential ideas on that in a future vlog.

    • @Edward-Plantagenet
      @Edward-Plantagenet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MiniatureRealms My main concern with splitting the command stands is that I'd be left with 10 battalions from each starter without commands, plus there would be the line Rifle battalions. That problem is fairly easily resolved though given I can use either Minifigs or buy one of the very good Epic size battalion STLs and just print the command stands. The STLs IIRC are only $20-30 but then I'd have to pay for the printing and I'm not sure how durable the resin will be at that size. I'll cost it out using Minifigs / postage vs STL / printing. If the costs are not too far apart Minifigs would be my preferred option I think. In addition, while the STL may be more cost effective for standard battalions it would be much less so for the Rifles.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s understandable. I’m hoping a 3d printing will solve some of these issues soon.

    Got the French sprue with the latest Wargames Illustrated. Hopefully start painting them up today. Can I paint the greatcoat infantry as line infantry or are they specifically light infantry? 🤔
    Also I need to ask myself do I need another Napoleonic scale? Currently have 6mm Grumbler, 10mm Pendraken, Some original 18mm CGM , 20mm Newline designs. While I like the Newline range I'm not a fan of all the mold lines on some of the figures and horses.

    • @MiniatureRealms
      @MiniatureRealms  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can definitely be used as line or light, whichever suits. You’ve definitely got a lot of scales covered there, so in many ways you possibly don’t need more. But in the other hand, add Epic, 28mm and 54mm and you’ve got the full set! 😂 …and more toys is never a problem right? 🤣

    Your Epic vlogs are dangerous. I am trying to hold out on Epic unless my wished-for British Civil Wars make an appearance, but I find myself weakening over the American Civil War and all this cool painting, tweaking, customising, and scenario building for epic scale lines are not strengthening my resolve man!

    • @MiniatureRealms

      No problem at all. I buy the round ‘small lipped’ bases from Warlord (the ones you see with Bolt Action), I get a multipack with 25/30mm? (Can’t remember which you get) and 50mm in as well. I use the 50mm with 3+ models on for Generals and personalities, the 40mm with 2+ on for Brigade commanders, and plan to use the smaller ones for single commanders/ADC’s which may come in handy.
      This won’t help much though if you’re just ordering mdf all from one place though.
