  • 14-year-old Adam goes to sleep at night in a tent in his bedroom. Lying by his side is Grant, a rambunctious black Labrador, who has been Adam’s support dog for the last six years. This is their story.

    “He’s not weird; his reality is just different to ours.” I love that quote. Reminds me of something Temple Grandin says: that those of us on the Spectrum are “different, not less.”

    I’m really disappointed that the organisation doesn’t provide dogs to those over 18 with autism. Autism doesn’t have a magic disappearing age.

      I am 42, live on my own, but my autistic behaviors will never disappear. Everything can be a struggle for me. Sometimes I say the wrong things to my family and piss them off. And sometimes I don't know why I made them angry. Service animals definitely help people with autism. 💙

      @@Ausgar-yc1yl They usually call them "support dogs" or "assistant dogs" in the UK. Almost every country has a different name for service dogs. In America we call dogs that guide the blind "guide dogs" in Canada they call them "dog guides". It depends on the country.

      Annoyingly the organisation which provides service dogs only provide them for children and not adults ☹️. It’s not like autism magically disappears once someone turns 18.

      O l i v i a M c g r a w yh they are everywhere you will get bullied even if you are not disabled I get and got bullied pretty badly I kept getting sent to hospital because of my bullies in reception I was strangled nearly to death I still have scars on my from that person they used to dig there nails into my skin and pull massive chunks of skin out and 7 years later I still have scares I think I got it the worst you can get other than being bullied to death and I mean that the bullies kill you not you because some people just get called a name and kill themselves because they are unstable

    • @lydialaub5475
      @lydialaub5475 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it’s pretty crazy how long the wait time for a diagnosis can be. I was diagnosed with Aspergers when I was nine. My mom had known I was different since I was an infant, and since toddlerhood I had been bounced from doctor to doctor with none of them really figuring out what was going on until I was nine. (Though to be fair, this was back in the early to mid 2000s and ASD just wasn’t as widely heard of or studied as it is now). So yeah, I feel ya - it’s definitely frustrating.
      Bored beaver, I am glad you finally got assessed and properly diagnosed, and O l i v i a M c G r a w, I hope you that wait list goes fast and you are able to be assessed/diagnosed soon.
      Also, friendly reminder that this isn’t a competition - it like both of you have been through some rough times in regards to being bullied, and both of your experiences are totally valid and can be expressed while still recognizing that others have also been through hardship. I guess what I’m trying to say is that what’s not traumatic for one person may leave lasting emotional scars on another, and that doesn’t make said other person’s trauma any less real.
      Anyway, hope you both have a nice rest of your day!

      Same thing happened with me, I’m 22 and after years of pressuring my doctors to look into it they finally referred me to get tests done and I scored a 9/10 with 6 and up being considered autistic the person who interviewed me was disgusted that my doctor just left me all these years, now I’m an adult I’m just not entitled to any help

      I haven't even been diagnosed, but I had obvious signs growing up. I only have meltdowns because of loud noises, and since it's been striking every day lately, I have been in agony because of the thunder. I only seek comfort in playing music with noise-canceling headphones to block it out. Ever since I was 14, I've been suffering from loud noises, and I've been snapish, depressed, and angry ever since. I can't go ANYWHERE without earplugs, and nothing has helped. My only chance would probably be therapy. Then again, I'm not so great with talking to people... But I need the help either way.

    One of the most beautiful things about God and his Spirit and his love for us is that since we are made in the image of God, He uses his creation to show pure love and support for those struggling in different ways. So sometimes it may mean a full miracle and for others, it means Him showing love for us through the creatures He created. God doesn't have to use words to show his love. He shows it by His actions as seen through this Dog. Not saying that God is a dog, what I'm saying is that God's Spirit and his love is shown through the dog. Praise be to our Lord Jesus for every Blessing he bestows on us. And my prayer is this, that if you don't believe in God, I pray that you would ask questions. Ask, Seek, Knock and the door will be opened. Jesus wants a relationship with you. His Father, God desires repentance from sin and willingness.
    It's not easy, and it doesn't mean that life is perfect, but it does make life worth living. Plus, knowing that through the example of Jesus who is willing to lay his life down for us, the same can be said of a dog. A creation of God given to us, those made in the image of God, to alongside us for support, love, and willingness to lay down one's life in order for another's life to be transformed. This leading to the eternal hope of Jesus Christ and resurrection. Hope y'all have a blessed day.

      A Myriad of Scars Yh but what I’m saying is that emotional support animals are not the same as service animals this is a service dog but they call it a support animal which might make people who don’t know the laws think that emotional support animals have access rights with they do not

    • @Madlemore
      @Madlemore 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lily house I know I commented this a year ago but if you keep watching the video, the dog does perform tasks which means he is a qualified service dog. They are called support dogs in the UK because the handler is not the disabled person. They support the guardian of the disabled person, but still have full access rights

    • @darkwolf2622
      @darkwolf2622 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They didn't say emotional support, did they? They said support. As in, what every service dog does, supports its handler. Stop being such a sour person, that's why people think we service dog handlers are always on high horses.
