    Not to be an enabler, but I depotted the gunmetal MELT Stack with no problem. As long as you heat the bottom, the shadows pop out easily.

      Ooooo - thank you for that info! Now that I know they pop out easily, I think it’s definitely worth saving that one shadow.

    The Roen palettes are special and I think you should hang on to them. Try them in the late summer with a bronzed look. If you can’t like it then, you know you’re over the textured eye. I suspect the low impact eyeshadow looks have distracted you.

    • @TheStyleStumbler

      I think you might be right, Catherine. The Roen palettes are really special and I’ve enjoyed them for so long. It would be a shame to declutter them just because I am going through a “phase”, especially when that phase might be over by the end of the season.

    Great collection. Why would you even consider decluttering a quad you really like? Unless you have no room for them, I say keep them. Any time I hear someone say there’s something special about some colors, I’d keep them. I agree about the CT supernudes. It is my always take traveling with me palette as a base. Also it would be great if you always mentioned the palette color in case there’s one we want to look for. I was wondering if g about the ND mini with the pretty middle sparkly shade. Thanks

    • @TheStyleStumbler

      Thank you!
      That's a great question. If I really like something and use it often (or for specific reasons) then of course I'll keep it. But if I really like something and realize that I'm not using it anymore, I'd rather it go to someone who will get use out of it before it expires instead of it simply "rotting" in my drawer. Especially cream products, since they tend to go off much faster than powders. But I ultimately kept the Roen palettes (if this is just a brief phase I'm going through it would be a shame to declutter them prematurely).
      Thanks for the tip - I'll try to remember to mention the names the next time I film a declutter. The ND mini with the pretty middle sparkly shade was the Mini Star Palette.

    The first eyeshadow palette I ever bought as an adult was a lancome one. I bought it a dept. store because the MAC employees were too busy chatting to wait on me and I got annoyed. I loved it. I had it for years, more than a decade when it finally got decluttered. The only annoying thing about them is the uniform packaging. Having more than one is confusing.

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lancôme really is underrated. I agree with you though - the uniform packaging can be a bit annoying if you have more than one. Luckily the powders inside make up for it. 😉

      Yes, it's better if they have a clear lid, or the box is the colour of the theme of the shadows...or the colours on top or bottom of the box...there's nothing worse than going through 8 black boxes to find the right colours!!😊

    You have a great collection! And your Roen eyeshadows are beautiful! I’ve always wanted one, but then my profession does not encourage glittery lids, and my few Pat McGrath items are all the glitter I’ll ever need.
    I always find it hard to part with make up, especially eyeshadow.. but the recount of the collection is still useful. The closest I’ve done of a big declutter was depotting my eyeshadow quads and organising them into big palettes. Helped me be a bit more judicious with my purchases as more aware of all the colours I have.
    Playing with makeup is like being a child again. And that… is a story for another time ☺️

      Thank you! Roen shadows are really special, but so are the ones from Pat McGrath - just in different ways.
      Parting with makeup is quite difficult, but it’s getting easier as I strengthen my decluttering muscles. And going through my things is definitely confirming that I don’t need to buy anymore.
      You’re right! Playing with it really does make me feel like a kid again! 🥳

    This is definitely a meaty part of your declutter.
    I think similar to having a separate makeup kit for the stage, it makes sense to have some sort of reference kit for when you make these videos that way you're not just relying on memory. But I would only suggest doing it if you have firm idea of how you want that reference kit to function and if it fits in your container/storage strategy.
    One of the main themes in discussing your collection is nostalgia. It's nice to have so many totems to remind you of fun shopping trips with your mom of fun holidays with family. and if that sense makes you gravitate toward using certain palettes for live in those memories that's awesome. The flip side of that nostalgia bug is keeping something just because it was a gift. In my own experience I've seen how that can lead to forced usage or lack of enjoyment because the nostalgia turns to a burden. So as long as you keep that in mind and can watch for it on the horizon, enjoy the happiness of playing in memories.
    Apropos of nothing, the swatches in this video are amazing. Especially with the olivey brown colors you were all excited about, the swatches and how you move your hand on camera really show the depth and movent of the color and give me the best sense yet of how makeup can look different from being in the packaging to being applied. It's like you opened a stuck door in my brain.
    Generally, The highlight of the video is hearing the enthusiasm and excitement in your voice as you talked about everything. It's why I'm happy to follow you on this journey.
    I was also thinking about all the palettes you noted you got as gifts. It seems like your family really knows how to shop for you and get you the right things that you will get max enjoyment out of. It also makes me think about the effort I put in when I gift people things in the hopes that they'll enjoy what I've given them.

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for the feedback on the swatches, Zach! I’m so glad they were able to clearly show the difference between the pan and how they look applied.
      Yes, you’re right. There will need to be a system behind my reference box. I’m still trying to clarify the details, but I’m using a shoebox, so at least the “space” parameter has been defined.
      As for nostalgia, it can definitely be a double-edged sword. I think I’m finding it easier to see the tipping point - the more I declutter, the more clarity I find. So I’m hoping I’ll find it easier to say goodbye to any beautiful things that wear out their welcome.
      As for the gifts: I can only hope that I am as good a gift giver as some of my friends and family, because they have really been good to me. Gift giving is an amazing talent that I’ve been trying to cultivate. I have a feeling your ability to listen to others must make you a great gift giver.
      It was lovely to hear from you, Zach! Thanks for giving me the gift of such thoughtful responses all these years!

      @@TheStyleStumbler If you've at least got a box for your reference kit, That's a good start.
      It's good that you've got the clarity to see the tipping point with nostalgia. I know I have a hard time seeing it with some things I have, but I'm sure it will come in time.
      I'd like to think I'm a good gift giver. I try to pay attention to people to pick up on hints and come up with ideas that will be appreciated. Although I worry I may have set the bar for myself too high with my sister in law. Now I feel like there's a level of expectation and I have to keep upping my game. I'm worried at some point I'll come up short. But time will tell.

    I don't understand when people do declutters and sort by brand. They need to be sorted by color, so you aren't keeping duplicates. You can also see holes in your collection and where you over buy.

    • @TheStyleStumbler
      @TheStyleStumbler  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I see your point - if avoiding duplicates had been my priority I probably would have done it that way. But considering that I’ve spent the last two years comparing and decluttering similar color stories in my “Panning for Gold” series, it made more sense to focus more on formula and texture here. And since brands often have similar formulas, it made more sense to group them that way. Everyone has different priorities for their collections and declutters, so that affects the way we each sort things.

      @TheStyleStumbler  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You do have a point - I definitely have a lot of similar colors. But there are several reasons:
      1. My luggage often gets delayed on tour (I work as a musician) and I have to purchase stage makeup to use in the meantime will work for the shows I'm in. That resulted in many repeat shades.
      2. Many of these were gifts or decluttered to me. And they are lovely formulas that I use & enjoy, so I don't feel the need to get rid of them.
      3. I enjoy the different formulas and textures. The look of a smooth chrome shadow vs a textured foil, vs a sparkly metallic vs a topper are different enough to me that it makes sense to keep them. I realize not everyone cares about that, but I get a lot of joy out of those details.
      4. I used to over-purchase makeup, which also resulted in a lot of repeat shades. But that behavior is something I've been actively working on since my no-buy year. If you'd like to see what that work looks like, check out any of my Adagio Beauty videos:
