1971-1978 Chrysler Valiant E49 Big Tank
Here we have a 1:18 scale die-cast metal with plastic parts model of the 1971-1978 Chrysler Valiant E49 Big Tank. This is one amazing model, whose detail is very much on a par with most 1;18 scale models from our Australian Supercar series as well as our Australian Designed and Built Vehicles. The attention to detail is extremely well executed in something of this scale model.
So first the body. With Its burnt orange colour that when this car came out in the 1971 through its life until 1978, this was the most popular colour requested by fans. The paintwork is flawless with absolutely no blemishes at all. Panels such as doors, the bonnet and the boots fit very well with all panels fit well with no excessive gaps. All panels open with all panels opening wide to give unlimited access to all compartments. Emblems and decals are placed as on the original with external parts like fuel caps attached. The wheels with rubber tyres and the original style of the Mag wheels are also as those on the original vehicle.
Now the engine is an absolutely very well detailed engine that has an incredible amount of detail that one very rarely sees on this scale of model. There is no part of this engine that anyone would not be amazed in its complete description of the engine. It is in fact comparable with the 1:18 and 1:12 scale that one would see the same attention to detail.
The interior has the same amount of detail that the rest of this vehicle has been subject to. Even comparable to many 1:18 scale models, its limitations are to be expected on its size, but even so, the attention to detail is of a top quality. Size comparison on all interior components is excellent and the dashboard and instrument panel is high quality.
Now the boot is also very detailed with the extra large fuel tank fitted especially for this particular model, very well presented. Complete with the spare and with the fuel pipes from the filler caps to the tank reproduced with astonishing detail. Boot lid opens wide and fits well with just the right amount of panel gap.
The under carriage has that same attention to detail that looking at it would be exactly as looking at the real vehicle. Exhaust system that fits to the engine and with the great attention of the detail of the gearbox and the drive shaft going through to the rear driven differential. With the engine itself, you can see the entire engine with its incredible detail. Nothing is missing in this model's presentation and really if one does not collect these Australian Built Vehicles, this would be a model that can be displayed on its own merits and proudly so. I would have no difficulty in giving this one top marks in every department. So it's a 5.0/5.0. Robin Finlay 20/09/2024.
