Paul Andersen describes the important characteristics of viruses. He starts with a brief description of origin theories. He then describes the two characteristics of all viruses; genetic information and protein coats. He also describes how some viruses use specialized envelopes to gain entry to their host cells. He also explains the lytic and lysogenic reproductive cycles.

Bozeman science is literally what is saving me in AP bio right now and it really deserves more credit. I also use Crash course and I love the Vlogbrothers but while they make things more visually appealing, their content isn't as helpful. Thanks Mr. Anderson.

    This channel is very underrated.
Got only 10% than other popular youtube lesson channel.
Yet,this channel has the most detailed, complete content, than any other.
And btw im a highschool student on the last year.
And i reallly lazy on reading.
    This lesson is unbelievably helpful
Thanks to that guy on the video!!

arvin akbar gumilang yea these videos are awesome. Been watching yesterday too for a test today. When i saw that chapters 16-19 were like 100 pages and I hadn’t listened in class because my teacher sucks and everyone else is sleeping, there’s like 2 people taking notes, I was just like yup it’s TH-cam time. Read about 6 pages in on my book and picked up like 2 things. This channel explains stuff really well and has great visuals which is just how I learn.

I also had a college biology class in which everybody was given the project of argueing against each other online, either for or against including viruses as life forms.
It was a long time ago, but I'm pretty sure I picked the argueing for including them since not counting them wouldn't have been much of a challenge to argue for since those arguements have already been made.

That was ment as more of a thought experiment than as something to be taken litterally.
As someone who likes sci-fi I wonder if we might end up broadening our definition of life if we knew more of what sort of things exist in the universe, and not just this one planet.

I think saying that we're not alive based on how we need energy from plants is an over generalization of what was said. Sure, we depend on other things to keep us alive but our cells make and reproduce without the need to attach to anything else for assistant and can live on their own, basically.

But first, the plants have to make those macromolecules, just like humans had to make the computers.
I'm not claiming that viruses are alive, I'm just saying that the arguement that they can't proform basic functions and exist without the help of other organisms could also be considered true for any organism that has to get it's energy from other organisms.
