    I told my Fernandomania era dad last month that we basically lost all our pitchers to the IL this year and that Stone was the only one that has survived so far, and that I hope that he doesn’t fall victim to the IL in the last days of the season 🤯🤬!

    The problem was not this specific at bat by CT3. MOF it was a pretty good AB. The problem is that the Dodgers had no one on the bench better than CT to take that ab. Barnes or KK were left. This situaiton showed so clearly what an advantage it would be to have Rushing as the backup C.

    What stands out the most with Pages vs. Tayor is the last 30 days overall, 1.015 OPS for Pages, .569 for CT. As they say, when you’re hot you’re hot, when you’re not you’re not.

    Some little league manager make the lineup for the Dodgers. Waisting Ohtanis power at lead off!! and Smith at the # 4 is killing RBI production.

    How is ok for Hernandas to go on the IL ? Our only right handed power bat is out.

    Just to clarify. My comment, which Matt responded to, was in response to Anthony saying that we (viewers) needed to be better consumers of baseball or something to that effect. I actually hadn't considered Pages vs CT3 so for me it wasn't about that specific debate; but when someone on a show like this gets exasperated with the chat that exasperates me. I guess I wish there could have been a little more recognition before that point in the show that we needed, as Scott Geirman might say, a little therapy after a very rough day of two important players going on the IL and a second game where the offense looked anemic.

    There’s two things that need to happen for the rotation to get more comfortable. Buehler needs to continue to get his act together, and Yamamoto has to complete his rehab successfully.
    While I have been pretty hard on Buehler, things have gotten bad enough that we need him right now. Even with Yamamoto back he would still be the fourth guy.
    What make this situation tougher is that we can’t just send him down and give someone else his spot, but things are so thin now that the reason why we can’t send him down now is because he is our number 3 starter and if not for Knack being promoted he’d be number two.
    Another strong result along with a showing of an improvement in command would bode well for both him and the team.

  • @a.j.carisse439
    @a.j.carisse439 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I was somewhat concerned about the rotation prior to Stone going down but I am a lot more concerned now and i agree that this is all about how Yamamoto will come back.
    Yamamoto is not close to being ready and it is a clear mistake t throw him in there this soon. Maybe he’ll do OK enough that we won’t be saying this on Tuesday, maybe 3 innings of keeping the damage to a couple runs but the potential downside is he gets racked around. It’s actuallly not so so bad to have a. Guy rehab in the bigs however you have to consider what’s best for the team in a tight race as well as what a bombing would do for the guy’s confidence. The die is cast though, we’re down to crossing our fingers.

    Back when we made the deal for Glasnow I shared that I thought this was a bad trade overall. I don’t think many people would have agreed, if any, but the fact that I still don’t like this trade surely has made this far less likely.
    It’s not that I didn’t want Glasnow and did say that he’s a little better pitcher at this stage than Peoiot. This turned out to be the case and Glasnow’s ERA is only a hair better in fact.
    What people miss when evaluating deals is the opportunity cost involved, which I pointed out at the time was central to a deal that otherwise would have been close enough to say that the additional certainty with Glasnow made this deal make sense.
    However, the trade wasn’t Glasnow for Pepiot it was Glasnow for Pepiot and whatever all that extra paid to Glasnow would buy.
    Jack Flaherty for instance. So Glasnow for Pepiot and Flaherty doesn’t sound like it’s so great for us.
    I was higher on Pepiot than most though, close to Glasnow, in the same category of talented starter basically. A lot of fans discount less experienced players way too much, and the fact that the Rays gave up Glasnow for him speaks to their similarity in value.
    There were real concerns about Glasnow’sdurability, and in particular, how many innings he’d be able to throw effectively.
    Pepiot is still pitching by the way, and very well, 4-1 with a 2.17 ERA over his last 7 starts. He’d be our best starter for the playoffs if the clock could be turned back and the team could get a do-over. The Lack both the Time Machine and the insight to choose better this time.

  • @a.j.carisse439
    @a.j.carisse439 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I realized that some people may think that it is either fair nor valid to point out that Pepiot is actively pitching well where it’s unlikely Glasnow will be back starting this year.
    Especially with a team that palaces such a high degree of consideration on the playoffs, you can actually speak to the likelihood of a pitcher being around in the playoffs based upon their history.
    It was clear that, in spite of both players having injury issues, that Glasnow would be less likely to be around, at a time where it is of great importance at least for a pitcher to be available when it really counts.
    There’s one more consideration about this trade that I haven’t mentioned yet. Glasnow and Pepiot are at opposite ends of the spectrum, and even though they are only 4 years apart, this has Pepiot on the climb and Glasnow close to the point where the decline will happen.
    Let’s say we’re looking at the average value over 4 years, where Pepiot’s will likely increase and Glasnow’s will likely go down as he approaches his mid 30s abd Pepiot moves to the age Glasnow is now, still in his prime.
    It’s done thoiugh, and Glasnow has pitched very well for us overall and we may still expect him to be a top level started for another year at least.

    There is a sort of reasonable explanation for Doc’s decision to go with Taylor here, and it’s Doc’s disorder of allowing the distant past to affect his decisions.
    He is getting at least some treatment for tjhis lately as it isn’t anywhere near as bad as it was in previous years, but it does still rear its ughly head. So we end up with I remember how Chris hit a few years ago, don’t have any long ago memories of Pages, so we have a clear choice it would seem.
    We are rightly calling out him, and now you, on this. I’m even thinking that there’s a good chance this decision cost us the game.

  • @a.j.carisse439
    @a.j.carisse439 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    So Andrew what goes into that decision to put Taylor in for Teo is mot correct, you can’t just say it, or take a wrong guess at what the numbers are and puff out your chest.
    These decisions are indeed what are behind them not based on outcomes, so you got that part right at least, whew a lot of fans don’t. I have to take every opportunity it’s to give you any sort of props since these opportu ities don’t come often.

  • @a.j.carisse439

    So in retrospect Roberts once again overstated an injury, he’s getting more balanced now although still consistently wrong.

    Walker Buehler is the most honest baseball player of al time.
    He described his outing tonight as :just shitty.”
    Friedman defended his throwing Yoshi into the fire when he doesn’t even look like he’s ready for low A hitters. I agree with him that this may be the best thing for Yoshi but there’s this other issue, can we afford to throw away even more games based on starters that ar e just shitty?
    I”m hoping Yoshi won’t be just shitty tomorrow night but there’s too big of a chance of this to make sense of the move.
    Hold on to your seats folks, this could get very ugly tomorrow, not that we haen’t seen more than our share of that lately.

  • @a.j.carisse439
    @a.j.carisse439 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

    You can indeed have too much starting pitching Andrew and the reason is roster limitations. You can only keep so many major league contracts and the excess goes to either the farm or if they can’t be,, you halve to DFA them.
    Having a pipeline of young starters who are at least close to MLB caliber has always been very important, but its performance has grown considerably in the era of the injury epidemic.
    To get back to the origina point, if you have more than 6 starters that can’t get sent down, yo=u either need to fake an injury or let them go.
    So when we consider re-signing Flaherty, there’s another consideration, which is which pitcher would you need to let go.
    This isn’t even an opportunity cost you can define very well, do we really know what the value of pitchers coming back from surgery are, like May and Gondolin and even Ohtani.
    Then there’s the opportunity cost of the money spent, what you are getting from the difference between the signee and the pitcher he replaced, relative to what this money could be used for with other upgrades.
    Finally, there’s a potential roster opportunity cost issue where adding another guy and the spot they take making one less slot for someone on the farm who may be clearly better than the #5 guy but is stuck because you don’t want to DFA the guy. Think Chris Taylor.
    So this isn’t such a simple minded problem as it appears, as in you get so many injuries so you therefore can’t have too many. It’s just not this simple.

    I wonder if the odds are better that Dave Roberts gets fired for the team underperforming or he wins Manager of the Year for holding the team together in this injury-plagued season.

    I'll admit that with all these injuries, it's hard not to be a Debbie Downer but they're truly just gut punches. I feel bad for not really feeling like I could appreciate Shohei creating the 45/45 club last night.
    There's still almost 4 weeks left of the regular season, so there's time for Teo to recover if it's not anything serious, and for Yoshi to get back into the flow, but it's dicey and it always feels like someone's gonna hit the IL every week. It's been rough.

      Yeah, I was still processing losing Gavin, so when Teo went down, I’m not even sure if I could feel anything inside. Truly a gut punch.

    Anthony says “Psjeds numbers are worse (than CT) against right handed pitching.”
    What numbers are we talking about here Anthony? I invite you to actually take a look at the numbers, is it the 40 average points or the 100 OPS points that Pages is ahead?
    This is not even close and you should be suitably embarrassed.

  • @a.j.carisse439

    I’m going to hang with this show and bear the pain of Andrew’s opinions. I don’t understand that bit about Taylor hitting in the 9 hole but now in the 4 spot due to injury, you need to bring in someone else when he goes down, what does this have to do with this decision?
    Then you start talking about the results when this isn’t supposed to matter, look he hit that line drive, etc. This stuff really doesn’t matter, not sort of doesn’t, and if he hit a homer and won the game the decision remains bad, whether you “buy” it or not.

    All you Taylor supporters can see now how bad he is offensively and the dodgers should have kept Hayward. It’s not even up for debate. Also, Dave Roberts should have saved Muncy for the 8th inning and had him hit in Taylor’s spot and move Kiki to left field. Cleveland would not have intentionally walked Freeman and got an easy DP ball for weak hitting Taylor. This isn’t that damn hard.

  • @October2pointO

    non casuals enjoy the ups and and downs. the offense has sucked for 3 years, (sucks now, and will suck again) when it matters, vs good pitching and in post. the pitching is what it is because GM never thought it was important to get more than glasnow in off season and flaherty at deadline. all other starters are projects at best. missed out on Sale, Caese. but the dodgers problem is the offense. the most capable hitter is chasing home runs. today you had an awesome performance for 6 innings by knack and 1 billion dollars of offense did not back him. not unique, glass went 5 starts with zero run support. offense sucks. roberts is worthless. fire dave roberts. Mookie is current MVP. Freddy has a lot on his mind. whoever replaces Teo will not strike out as much. guaranteed. keep the faith. go dodgers. the good thing if they get sent home early in post is that Roberts wont last.

    They’ll be bounced from the playoffs early again. And all you’ll be left with are a bunch of Ohtani empty stats.
