About 2 years ago I was looking for W.Ackerman videos on you tube. At a certain point in the suggestion bar I saw "Michael Hedges and Will Ackerman - Hawkcircle" and I asked myself "Who is Michael Hedges?" so, I looked at the vid and I remained astonished, but straight afterwards I clicked on the video "Aerial Boundaries" and my life changed forever. What a wonderful music Michael and what a wonderful soul...thank you.
An Englishman Londoner here. I have many of his albums and we are blessed to have the library of live performances here on YT. Tragic loss and at too early a stage in his career, terrible waste.
to see both together, live playing this incredible sound... whoever recorded this, i cannot thank you enough, this is ,for lack of a better word, sacred. thanks.
i saw this originally on Live at Wolf Trap on the Public Broadcasting channel. It was sometime in the early 80's I believe. Michael Hedges, gone too soon. What an extraordinary talent!
Will Ackerman, was obviously proud of this song, and the incredible performance he and Michael Hedges, just gave as a wonderful gift. To an appreciative audience. Loved Windham Hill music, back in the 80s. It didn't have anything to do with MTV, or Comercial radio. Yet everyone I knew, was listening to their roster of artists. And digging, Alex DeGrassi, George Winston, Michael Hedges, and Daryl Anger. Of Kitaro. Thank you for posting. Have a great day.
Two of my favourite guitarists, a beautiful and dramatic song, an amazing live performance... not much more I could ask for. I do wonder why this has not got more 'Likes'. It deserves so much more.
Your a lucky dude, I discovered him by watching a Windham Hill VHS tape in '88 called Waters Path, It normally will take a few times to like what I hear, but Michael Hedges touched a delightful nerve in me that etched itself in my memory, his music is hauntingly beautiful. Wish he were still with us.
I'll never forget the day, years ago, I was listening to the radio, and heard Rickover's Dream, and thinking, MAN, who IS this guy?? 'Till then, I'd never even *heard* of Windham Hill. It was a revelation, and my music collection is so much richer for it. Michael is sorely missed.
i was born in mid 90's and can still appreciate what these guys have done in the past. i feel as though im the only one from my generation that listens to this kind of music.
Music today is in sad shape but then again the really great music of the past and especially the present has to be prospected for. The true GEMS are out there but you have to dig for them. Try turning your friends onto some of this music for they probably don't even know it even exist. Keep on digging my friend.
I still love and miss Michael Hedges. 2014 I had my brother play " I Carry Your Heart". At first he said no. Too hard... but he did it... Thank you Michael for putting this poem to music.........
I am so grateful for this deeply moving music.... I could just listen 24/7 This and and a lot of the Windham Hill artists help me to retain a modicum of balance and sanity in this frenetic world we have now. Thanks guys.
Hawk's Circle has been and shall remain profoundly poignant for me. From the age of daring to dream a life to finding out how that is not the plan. Then to finding the very best of life happened, was fragile and had to leave me searching the skies to say hello,I love you and I will always know that you taught me to do so.
i have huge amounts of respect for these 2 men that can create such moving music from just the raw acoustic guitar, it seems in todays era of music everything is electrified and the true beauty of the acoustic guitar is forgotten. RIP Mike and bless you Will.
All I can say about this is magical, I saw this video for the first time when it was made way back when and been amazed ever since by both of these men pure genius. I have created music like this but nothing close to it. I am glad that I have had the chance to let me heart and ears enjoy this feast of sonic indulgence
It's from the July 1986 at the Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts in Vienna, Virginia. type3secretion just posted a bunch of these clips in very high quality. Check out the Because It's There.
As much as I like this piece as performed by Will Ackerman and George Winston, Michael Hedges is something else. Every note he plucks is just perfect. Can't replace it with any other.
booksum : Agreed, perfectly put. Plus both are / were married with children. There's a fund still available for the children and widow of Hedges, who died in a car crash (skidded off the road in the rain over a cliff, I believe). See Michael Hedges website with many great song samples.
Beautiful song. Have any of you listened to the second disc of "Gone to Earth" by David Sylvian? You know, just in case you are running out of good music to listen to.....
This is awesome guitar and makes my heart sing! Michael and Will - absolutely the best. Are there more Will Ackerman videos somewhere? Can't seem to find any...
77,164 vies on 01/01/09 and I must have 7K of them. Two of the greatest guitarists ever - both on the same stage - playing brilliantly - but only 77K views? While Charlie the Unicorn has millions upon millions of views? WTF
I'm pretty sure the beat up one he was always seen with is a martin D-28.. not sure of the year or if it was a custom. The headstock appears to be missing the 'martin' logo.
The section of the strings that go over the bar on the head and pass to the tuners are pushed on, causing the strings to increase tension and raise (bend) the pitch. Hope that helped
When was this concert? Did they ever record this in a studio and release this? Thanks for posting this -- who needs laudatory adjectives when there's such music...
I think some guy just posted another video from the same concert - it's Hedges covering "A Love Bizarre" with a drum accompaniment. It's the only time I've ever seen him use or even need drums, and it's pretty grooving. I think it has to be the same concert, he's wearing the same horrible outfit in the video. What concert is this?
It's beautiful, but of course it's a human's projection of what it would be like to be a hawk and still retain our consciousness and luxuries. Most likely, the hawks I see every day are just struggling to find a meal and survive a very harsh environment. We humans have the luxury of romanticizing the grueling and intricate work of Nature.
Take what up the ass exactly?? A Martin D-28? Or a Gibson J-200? LOL Either would be a rather tight fit!! :-) I know what you mean. I tell my friends if I had just 1/10th the talent of Stevie Ray Vaughan I'd be very happy. That applies to Michael Hedges too.
lol tabs? i always have to laugh at guitarists asking for tabs for something like this. if you were anywhere near good enough to play this type of shit you'd realize tabs are not the way to get there

There is truly something wrong with a person, that could hit a thumbs down button on a recording of a performance like like this. Great post.
Had the pleasure of seeing Michael Hedges play live a few times..wonderful musician..very much miss him...

I miss good music. I miss Michael still.
You get a sense of complete musical mastery

Another great version of this song with both these legendary artists. May Michael play his guitar eternally......
Therese.

I watched this on PBS a million or more years ago! I still have an audio cassette I made of it... thank you for posting!
This is probably one of the greatest things my ears have ever heard...just amazing.
One of my ALL TIME favorite songs.. Absolutely special

I listen to this kind of music all the time. I cannot stand today's music.
Born in 1990 discovered hedges through Andy McKee in 2005. Never looked back since. Your not alone man.
I am so grateful for this deeply moving music.... I could just listen 24/7 This and and a lot of the Windham Hill artists help me to retain a modicum of balance and sanity in this frenetic world we have now. Thanks guys.
i saw this at a friends house getting close to 30 years ago... its a beautiful performance of two great artists so into where the song takes them.
Hawk's Circle has been and shall remain profoundly poignant for me. From the age of daring to dream a life to finding out how that is not the plan. Mesmerizing...both are magicians of extraordinary sensibility.
Never gets old….so incredible
Wow that's beautiful. To be able to express one's thoughts like that... can you imagine the freedom?
i have huge amounts of respect for these 2 men that can create such moving music from just the raw acoustic guitar, it seems in todays era of music everything is electrified and the true beauty of the acoustic guitar is forgotten. RIP Mike and bless you Will.
These 2 are simply inspirational. I got a chance to see them both live. I miss Michael.
So good! So sad Michael is gone now, but he will be with us again! Will, your music is spiritual and eternal!
Wow what a very Beautiful Song! This is a Masterpiece for sure, so majestic it sounds like it belongs to a Movie Theme I love it so much...

wow its nice to see michael grooving on a melody so gently
Brilliant, thank you for sharing. Did I say brilliant!!!!
Just when I think I've heard the most incredible guitar work, I come across this. 5 star!
Dude that outfit is awesome!
Michael Hedges действительно с другой планеты.Его просто не с кем сравнить.Очень жаль что он так рано ушёл.
20 years... whatta time. But Michael's music is over the time :-)
I was fortunate enough to see the both of them together in the mid 80s
rimani sempre un grande anche da lassu',Michael...

windham hill record LPs had the best new LP smell back in the 80s
I knew Michael from the Horse U came in on Dundalk, Maryland. Use to pass the hat for Michael.
So serene and beautiful !!!!
That was terrific! I thought I'd seen it all...
Hawk Circle
the studio version is on the "New Age & New Sounds Vol. 150"
Wunderbar !!!
B.L., Germany
I have never witnessed a man make a guitar cry until I saw Hedges playing here
Just Beautiful!
Thanks for this nice upload!
Another great Hedges performance and a new discovery for me (Will).
Love this!
Magical.
Beautiful Song
As much as I like this piece as performed by Will Ackerman and George Winston, Michael Hedges is something else. Every note he plucks is just perfect. Can't replace it with any other.
wow beautiful.
what a cool tune!
it's such a good idea how Hedges changes the pitch on some of his harmonics pressing the strings above the nut!
great post javaman!
it makes me cry...
Lapis - it WAS splendid! Thanks for the send.
I never heard a guitar sound like that before. :)
booksum : Agreed, perfectly put. Plus both are / were married with children. There's a fund still available for the children and widow of Hedges, who died in a car crash (skidded off the road in the rain over a cliff, I believe). See Michael Hedges website with many great song samples.
Preciosoooooooooooo !!!!!
The only words I can conjure up right now are, dear god...
*chills*
Beautiful song. Have any of you listened to the second disc of "Gone to Earth" by David Sylvian?
You know, just in case you are running out of good music to listen to.....
Легендарное исполнении❤️
cool stuff. hedges was / is wonderful.
i love this song, i think the tab is in a book called windam hill guitar sampler vol 1 or something like that
This is awesome guitar and makes my heart sing! Michael and Will - absolutely the best. Are there more Will Ackerman videos somewhere? Can't seem to find any...

great video, thank You veeeery much!
What a pretty sort of mantra kind of piece. The sound is near perfect.
Thanks a mille Steven that was trully helpful...
Perferct!
Brilliant! Anyone know where I can find the tabs for this song?
I second that
Thanks! Love your list. What happened to Will's "Processional" video?
man, such effects from the 2 guitars...
Oh, this made me laugh! "Well Said!" Ha! Hilarious!
The hawk swoop in
When was this concert?
Did they ever record this in a studio and release this?
Thanks for posting this -- who needs laudatory adjectives when there's such music...
why do so many great musicians die young?
How the hell is he bending the harmonic in the beginning of the song?
Its a Duborg Guitar...
The 16 people who disliked this video were either jealous or got lost on their way trying to find some shitty pop song.
I think some guy just posted another video from the same concert - it's Hedges covering "A Love Bizarre" with a drum accompaniment. car accident per wikipedia. shame. this guy kicks ass.

hahahaha....I wouldn't take it quite that far black but I sure understand the sentiment..ahahahaha
isn't his the same melody as paco de lucia playing with the other guy called lotus feet? hawk circle with piano sounds better
You certainly have an opinion of David Lindley, then, too, don't you?
Take what up the ass exactly?? A Martin D-28? Or a Gibson J-200? LOL Either would be a rather tight fit!! :-) I know what you mean. I tell my friends if I had just 1/10th the talent of Stevie Ray Vaughan I'd be very happy. That applies to Michael Hedges too.
that's a horrible shame about Hedges he really did rule, what is also a shame is that outfit that he has on, I pray to god he wasn't buried in that.
lol tabs? i always have to laugh at guitarists asking for tabs for something like this. if you were anywhere near good enough to play this type of shit you'd realize tabs are not the way to get there
Hey guys, if you find a melody jump on. Hedges was great, but this is a wank fest.
