Thanks! It was very helpful, just started with a Violine today to understand and played first time a note on the strings and listen to videos teaching it how to start as beginner! Greetings from Germany!

Thank you very much for this video. I didn't know there were different places to put the chin rest and was trying to put a center one on the side. I had to take it off because it was damaging my instrument. I feel stupid for not knowing, but now that I have it on correctly it's 10x more comfortable to hold.

Thank you for the video! I was unsure how to get the chin rest on and this helped greatly.

Very useful: I have a couple instruments at my school that need new chinrests, and my own viola chinrest literally broke off a couple days ago. I was thinking it would be cheaper to buy the part and put it on myself, but wasn't 100% how to do it.

Is the cork you're using something we can buy in a school supplies store? Or is it a special cork for the violin alone?

I'm a left handed. If I replace the chin rest of right hand violin into left hand.So will it be difficult to learn violin or not.

Leftie here too; I wouldn't bother moving it. Learn to play it 'right handed'. Your left hand will be doing all the fingering so in that respect you'll have an easier time.

You can use a bent paper clip. Be careful not to poke too far through the holes or you'll scratch the ribs. Do NOT overtighten, you'll run the risk of buckling the ribs.

    This instructions sucks.
Never never never ever place chinrest directly on plates. It should be placed right on the rim edge of the plate with little overlap BEHIND,
where the plate is the most thick and don't touch anything except this rim.If you place chinrest like in the video you will:
-Damage the sound of the instrument-Stick chinrest on front plate and damage big area of the varnish (as already was done on this particular violin) -You can develop crack of the plate or deform the geometry. especially with chinrests not mounted over a tailpiece-Chinrest will become loose after time (as mentioned in the video) this is not because of temperature, but because YOU ARE DEFORMING FRONT PLATE !!!!!!
    BIG THUMB DOWN

Thank you for this information. I have recently noted various tiny cracks between the rim and the plate on the bottom left side of my violin that aren't anywhere else... The violin was made in 2008 and I have been the only owner although I have barely ever played it. I surmised that the pressure applied by the chinrest was the culprit. I installed the chinrest years ago and I had little clue what I was doing. I am replacing the chinrest right now for a better fitting one and I won't be making the same mistake.
