Hi there… great job. That gown looked beautiful & steaming from underneath was a great idea. I generally press all the under layers, crinoline, etc., (usually very wrinkled) prior to marking the hem. It helps the layers settle down. I hang it on a hook, inside out, & spread the shirt over the ironing board & press w/ an iron. Those few layers of crinoline actually go pretty fast. And the underskirt(s) steam out easily (steamer)… then let it air dry. Obviously this doesn’t work for every gown, but great w/ full skirts. W/ the exception of the actual layers that I hem, the hemmed edge is pressed/ steamed when completed. I find this actually saves time & much easier to anchor the layers to mark for the bustle. Even working on the gown doesn’t seem to wrinkle them badly enough to require repressing them. Just need to steam the bodice, top layer(s) & the train to finish. Great video. You are very logical, that’s a good thing by the way & simplify pros & con. I think this is very helpful for anyone learning these techniques!!

Oh yes if a dress comes to me and it's fresh out of a box I will steam before attempting to pin... if it's too terribly wrinkled you'd never get a true marking that you'd feel confident about.
