I remember trying Captain Crunch recently for the 1st time in 30-plus years, and I couldn't believe how easy it was to eat. I felt rage and yelled at my cereal the way a farmer might yell at rain that came too late to save his crops.

I wish my kids could understand the self reliance our generation was forced into. Looking back I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Our generation wanted recognition but never got it and we are better for not expecting anything else. It makes us appreciate whatever we get rather than expecting it.
I remember all of this. And when Honey Nut Cheerios did finally come out, nope, can't get those, they're not good for you. So we still had to get the tasteless ones.

When he'd get away with being a creep, I'd pour the whole box of Lucky Charms into a bowl, pick out all the marshmallows, and put back the oat pieces. The next bowl of cereal he'd pour would beget angry yelling, followed by tantrum crying, and I'd listen with triumphant satisfaction. Ah, passive-aggressive sibling rivalry...

I’m a boomer and I’d have to say they must have improved the Captain Crunch in your day for it to have been able to actually scratch the roof of your mouth. For us, it turned into a soggy, horrible mess about twelve seconds after the milk hit it. No need for a spoon; just drink the slush right out of the bowl or the use of a straw was optional! And Cheerios, trying to actually capture those rascals on your spoon was more challenging than playing Operation!

For yes, while we had to endure such hardships as Wheaties and Corn Flakes- and even, for some, Grape Nuts😢.... there were, for others, things such as Boo Berry, Froot Loops, and-yes- even the double-edged- sword of Crunch Berries. The Days Before were different, yes... but also quite good.

Don't forget all the artificial colourings, sweeteners and preservatives they were loaded with, that are all banned now. I saw a study that said we may age a little slower due to the amount of preservatives we all unwittingly consumed

I remember the days when cereals had toys in them me and my sister always had a fight to get to the toy first and when I say fight it was brutal we pushed each other took the box away from each other I miss the good old days
Ah the cereal from the before the times! Cap'n Crunches Crunch Berries and Cap'n Crunches Peanut Butter Crunch were my favorites. But usually what we found was less than sugary. Special K or General Mills Corn Flakes. Some times Wheaties and one did not DARE to attempt to sneak a box of the forbidden sugary goodness into mothers shopping cart for it would be immediately returned to the shelf and if you even thought about throwing a tantrum, you would find yourself on the receiving end of a backhand that would have done Billie Jean King proud.

The full sized shredded wheat my mother would put one in my bowl then pour in boiling water. The wheat brick would soak for about a minute then my mother would drain the water from the bowl and place it in front of me. I would add sugar then pour in the milk and begin to eat the delightfully softened sugary wheat.

Speaking of mouth injuries GenX endured. Anyone remember the razor sharp edges on the freezees? Those frozen tubes of sweet refreshing treats that would leave the corners of our mouths sliced open while the blood would dribble down to our chins. Yes GenX had it best no doubt.

the sugar milk was the whole key LOL I saw my children have these cereals now with all marshmallows. I regaled them with quite the story about this.
