It should have been the 155lb backup in Gamrot (who was preparing with a full-camp for the eventuality of Charles/Islam pulling out) that stepped in

It wasn't a clear 4-1 though. Rounds 2 and 3 WERE razor close. If a judge scored that fight 48-47 Volk it wouldn't have been a robbery. It could've also been 48-47 Islam, and 49-46 Islam if you gave him both the toss up rounds. Trying to argue like it was just some clear, dominant 4-1 victory that wasn't close is just ridiculous. I guarantee you ISLAM wasn't confident waiting on the scores. So yes, it was razor close. You can literally win all 5 rounds and the fight still be razor close.

    • @timurjack8773

@themonsterbaby , giving 2nd round to Volk makes no sense. Because the biggest shot that wobbled Volk came in that round, then Makhachev also scored a takedown in 2nd round as well. 3rd round could go either way, 1st and 4th, as well as 2nd round were clearly Makhachev's.
So its either 49-46 Makhachev or 48-47 Makhachev, Volk himself knew he needed a finish in 5th round thats why he changed his strategy and took more risks in that round.
As well as Volk's coach said they lost first 2 rounds and need to win last 3, then they lost 4th round, meaning they needed a finish in 5th.

I don't understand why anyone doubted Usman. LOOK at Usman... Literally, LOOK at him. He's one of the scariest, most naturally gifted athletes at 170 pounds. Chimaev is not a genetically gifted freak athlete with freak cardio. Usman has some of the best takedown defense in UFC history, and before his fight with Leon, he had a 100% takedown defense. Nobody has 15 fights in a row without getting taken down or hurt once in a fight, and he was never taken down, and never injured in a fight, and had won 15 fights straight! Usman was going to be the pound for pound best fighter in history if Leon hadn't landed that head kick.

Colby Covington and Kamaru Usman have genetically the best cardio in the 170 pound division, they never get tired in high pace fights. Khamzat has basically 5 minutes of peak cardio, and he has to learn to fight around his cardio deficit.@@allpraisewebb1142

I agree. Look at Volk's 1st 5 rounds with Max and his 3rd 5 rounds with Max. He improved because he learned to fight 5 rounds, that was Makhachev's 1st 5 rounds and more importantly 24 hours rehydration was a big disadvantage while fighting a smaller opponent because smaller fighter will be affected less than the bigger fighter, plus the Australian crowd was amazing and full of energy, in the end Makhachev still won 49-46 or 48-47. In my opinion that decision win is as impressive as Oliveira finish win because when you consider all the disadvantages that Makhachev had in Australia.

I totally disagree with you Ariel that it would have went any different with Volk with a full camp because Volk biggest issue is that Volk is susceptible to head kicks, so I see it going the same way. It happened early in the fight and Volk was fresh so there are no excuses either.
Islam and his team have been working on the body and head kicks for sometime now against Volk so it was the greatest win the UFC so far!
Islam rolled him like a cigar and smoked him!
Islam will fight anyone, but I would give it to Justin Gaethje, because Charles is a risk that he pulls out again, and can't be trusted.
I totally disagree with Ariel and keeping Islam at 155...Ariel is just hating on Islam again! Nobody wants to fight Islam at 155 - He just wants Islam to stay because he knows if he fights Colby he will win and become double champ! @@rhysjones1108 he still took usman down every single round so I can reasonably assume he can do it 2 more times you assuming he’ll fall on his face and have nothing left is more of a stretch, and those take downs are against the guy with the best take down defense arguably ever so against others would be even easier

A full camp wouldnt have changed the case. First round round kick to the dom. These guys fight for a living. Camp is to strategies endurances and tactics. But they already know how to fight. 1st round k.o by that kick doesnt change camp or no camp. Give the man his flowers.

Huge volk fan but cannot agree ariel, full training camp wouldn't have made a difference apart from possibly more durability due to not cutting weight so fast, but other than that nope, alex had had an opening for headkicks for hears, surprised you dont watch breakdowns etc as an mma fan and as someone that covers the sport, the weasle on youtube has mentioned his headkick defence for years

Ariel I understand that Volk is your guy but there's no excuse. It was roughly a 3-minute fight, and anyone would get KO'd by that kind of head kick. The same thing happened with DC and Jon Jones; a head kick can take anyone down, no matter how well they've trained.

Dricus had to turn down the fight due to injury which he stated on this show and was well known (should have been mentioned). Also he fought back to back multiple times before getting injured, way more than other contenders in the division. I was not sold on dricus even up to the Whittaker fight which I rooted for Whittaker, but he definitely deserves the shot over kamsat 1000%. I would be pissed if I was him.

I completely agree and i'm surprised Dricus isn't getting the credit he deserves. Since Whittaker moved up to Middleweight (9 years ago!!) his only 2 losses were against Adesanya who was untouchable at the time.

Regarding Chimaev & the title shot…I’m guessing Usman only accepted the fight with the agreement that the winner got that shot.
Usman already beat Strickland at Welterweight, so he basically assumed he could be a 2 division champ with a win over Chimaev & it would be a crowing achievement before he retired. If that’s the case, it’s not Chimaev’s fault that he’s getting a title shot off of a lackluster fight.
