A deep dive into the Eighth Amendment, which protects citizens from excessive fines and cruel and unusual punishment. In this video, Kim discusses the Eighth Amendment with scholars John Bessler and John Stinneford.
To read more about the Eighth Amendment, visit the National Constitution Center’s Interactive Constitution. On this site, leading scholars interact and explore the Constitution and its history. For each provision of the Constitution, experts from different political perspectives coauthor interpretive explanations when they agree and write separately when their opinions diverge.

Is it just me or do mostly only people who earn under $50k per year, finding themselves caught up in the justice system, really need to be concerned about the eighth Amendment? Seems to me nobody from Wall St. or big corporate entities and the like got arrested after the 2008 stock market crash and taxpayer bailout in order to need concern themselves about unusual bail, fines or punishment? Or maybe am I just over generalizing?
