Such a powerful and deeply articulate frontman, Adrian's intensity sets The Sound apart from so many of their contemporaries. The whole band was fantastic for that matter. They were the real deal. RIP to both Adrian and Max.
So many feelings Pent up in here Left all alone, I'm with The one I most fear I'm sick and I'm tired Of reasoning Just want to break out Shake off this skin I, I can't Escape myself All my problems Loom larger than life I can't swallow Another slice Seems like my shadow Mocks every stride Can I learn to live with What's trapped inside? I, I can't Escape myself So many feelings Pent up in here Left all alone, I'm with The one I most fear I'm sick and I'm tired Of reasoning Just wanna break out Shake off this skin I, I can't Escape myself I, I can't Escape myself I, I, I can't Escape myself
Adrian said that he much preferred this version to the one on Jeopardy, because it was faster and his performance was much more intense. I heard it for the first time when the CD came out on Renascent, and I have to say it blew me away all over again. I think he was right, what a pity Jeopardy didn't have the balls of these versions.
Wow, amazing to read this, because I always thought the same, I prefer this version to the album version for the same reasons. What blows me away is that if one wouldn't know, one could actually think this here is the album version, so well done it is. Where did you read or hear him say that? I'd love to know the source to read/hear it myself. Thx in advance!
@microfinedj If you're up for a challenge, check out Mission Of Burma's "Academy Fight Song". That one got me before the chorus even started. This is amazing too, though.

God bless Adrian Borland. This is the anthem for depression and life sometimes.
Absolutely. Adrian left us with an astounding body of work. We lucky few!
I dont think theres ever been a song I've connected with so quickly.
fuck is so good as the studio version!!!!! now i have two ''i can t escape myself'' to listen!!!!!!
So intense
even better. Haunting...
The Sound is the band I've been waiting all my life
So many feelings
Pent up in here
Left all alone, I'm with
The one I most fear
I'm sick and I'm tired
Of reasoning
Just want to break out
Shake off this skin
I, I can't
Escape myself
All my problems
Loom larger than life
I can't swallow
Another slice
Seems like my shadow
Mocks every stride
Can I learn to live with
What's trapped inside?
I, I can't
Escape myself
So many feelings
Pent up in here
Left all alone, I'm with
The one I most fear
I'm sick and I'm tired
Of reasoning
Just wanna break out
Shake off this skin
I, I can't
Escape myself
I, I can't
Escape myself
I, I, I can't
Escape myself

@@DOOMGENERATION He told me.
This is my favorite version just behind the one on Paradiso set August 3rd 1981
rock-punk and everything music -the sound...
He parted this mortal coil on my birthday... finally escaped himself. Man, the tortured genius indeed. The best post-punk as legacy❤
