  • The Red Emerald Philodendron is one of the most common vining types of houseplants. It is a hybrid sought for its burgundy-red leaves. Vining philodendrons are among the easiest philodendrons to care for and are leaders in removing toxic gases from indoor environments.
    The Red Emerald Philodendron prefers warmth and humidity. Stake it with water-absorbent poles (commonly made from wire and sphagnum moss).

    Hi just came across your video...getting to love philodendrons... I have a philo ceLyon variety lime green leaves...the leaves are always curled despite watering ,compost etc...have repotted it too...please advise regarding the curling...thanks

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my experience, the most common reason for curling of philodendron leaves is dehydration. It can be due to low environmental humidity, terracotta pots drying faster, or less frequent watering. For example, this red emerald philodendron was initially very happy with watering every 4-5 days or in winters even 10 days. Later as it grew, started curling its leaf in an attempt to save moisture, as larger the leaf, more it loses water through evaporation. So I had to water it more frequently. Hope this helps.

    So informative..my philadentron plant is quite big..but it has suddenly the leaves have started yellowing. I water only when the soil is dry and kept in bright and indirect sunlight.waiting for ur reply.

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yellowing is most commonly a watering problem and if increasing/decresing the watering frequency is not fixing it, then it might need nutrients (fertilizing), if you have also done that in the last 30 days, then it might just be plain ageing. Hope this helps!

    Hi from Portugal! How many plants are in the pot? Is it three? I propogated ten and have put them together. Maybe it will be too bushy?!

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! 💚 For me initially there were three then I propagated 5 more and only 3 survived. Cool! Either ways if it becomes overcrowded you can separate them in a pot and get another plant! 😁😁

    Can you advise me if I can put it in a covered south facing verandah?

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      South facing balconies get a lot of sun, though I don't have such a balcony myself. This plant does not like too much sun. It likes bright indirect light spot. So maybe you can keep it in the room that adjoins the south facing balcony.

      Thank you so much! I got this plant from a local nursery, nearest to my house is Patuli roadside nurseries. I think you will get this from any local nursery close to you but only catch is they usually have very sporadic stocks. Hope you find this gem! 💚

    Mam can we put in ac room. We run ac only at nights. The room has a west facing window.

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, as long as the plant is not directly in the AC draft. You can also get a humidifier, it is good for plants to maintain a bit of humidity around it, as philodendrons generally like hot and humid weather. The plants will tell you if they are okay. Look out for leaf curling, means it is drying up too much. Bright indirect light is also important for this plant, grows quickly.

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very easy to propagate, the leaves curl up when it needs water. So either check the soil if it is dry, or leaves curl up, then the plant needs water.

    Can we propagate it in direct soil

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you can, I used water + soil because soil becomes dry so quickly and takes much more effort but the results are much more better in soil propagation if successful because the cuttings don't need to get acclimated to soil.

    My philadendron not growing

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try putting it near a bright indirect light window. For example East facing window or North west facing window. It grows well in hot and humid environments. If your area is dry and cold, it might slow down the growth. Make sure the soil is dry in between waterings. Hope this helps.

      @@crazyforplants thanks...how long it takes to produce new leaves

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends from place to place, in my area in Kolkata currently it is hot and humid, so in the last 40 days two full new leaves have come in and there are new growth (4 tiny leaves appearing).

    • @crazyforplants
      @crazyforplants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Don't worry, if the plant is healthy, and you are providing bright indirect light and occasional fertlizer, growth should come in some time.
