Insert your room card - and you get the same chime as picking up a coin in Super Mario Brothers If I remember correctly - This building went through the magnitude 8 quake back in 1906 and was one of the buildings that was built well enough to not get seriously damaged, or to catch fire or get blasted by dynamite in an effort to help stop the spread of the fire but it actually made it much worse. It goes to show that even the older buildings when built properly, are able to withstand heavy shaking. The hotel room was small but nice. I like how they kept the older toilets there without the tanks. You could probably flush tree branches down those toilets. My stepfather had a high-rise apartment building near DTLA that had these same fixtures, and they were awesome. Same thing with the very tall ceilings, and the same vibe even though this hotel was constructed 20 years or more before.

I was originally pre-blocked in one of those tiny rooms (thanks to Priceline) and thankfully the desk clerk saw that I had SPG Gold and got me in to one of the huge corner rooms on (I believe) floor 15 of the tower. I wish I had a video of that room, because it had to be 3 times the size of this one...
What a grand old hotel; the room was a bit small but going by a Google search, looks like they've redone the rooms. Doesn't seem like it has a pool but not too many hotels have a shopping centre in them!
I love this place!! I know there's more to come but I hope you got a chance to see the exterior glass elevators overlooking Union Square in the tower. Thanks for sharing this! I always hoped you'd experience San Francisco. I figured it'd be heaven w/ the collection of elevators & beautiful bldgs.
Floors 1, M, 2, and 12 are unlocked in the historic tower, also.. I still cannot believe you didn't know about the pacific tower elevators. I am dragging you right over here next time you visit.
that lobby is fantastic. elevator flew up to 12. travelling to 8 is a short hop. Ernesto is a nice man. That commode is very clean. I want to sleep on a bed like that. window is good. that staircase is artwork. look at the carpet. second elevator is elegant.

I was actually asking diesel about Oregon. When it comes to SFO I am more involved with the locations and history of sirens as I have only been there in person once. (It was one of the most beastly epic adventures EVER!)
