      I think it is actually bad content. Very biased. First, there is just a hidden assumption that Russia is "run by terrorist" with no insight, but demonization. Second, focus on personalities of Xi, fears, childhoods with no talk about material forces like attacked by an insecure U.S. seeking to hinder and contain China. All in all, this is bad content.

    Listening to such a knowledgeable guest is a great pleasure, so I immediately downloaded Michael Sheridan's audiobook 'The Red Emperor - Xi Jinping and his China', narrated by Daniel York Loh (10h 19 min), which I will start listening to tonight.
    I think it is very positive that the Silicon Curtain is looking at the bigger picture again, and China is certainly a country that most of us have only a very superficial knowledge of and therefore no idea of how China works as a system.

    A really enjoyable episode. In general Chinese ppl are not very fond of foreigners. They are interested in a short contact with a tourist but the situation changes completely once f. e. a daughter starts a relationship or even wants to marry a foreigner. Expect big trouble. If China calls a country a dear friend it means: an alley which is currently of strategic advantage.

    • @PerfidiousAlbion1815
      @PerfidiousAlbion1815 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      thing is history has shown the Chinese that foreign contact especially from Europeans is very much a mixed blessing and has resulted in much abuse of the Chinese in the previous two centuries. Also having almost never had personal freedoms the Chinese by nature are insular and distrusting of foreigners. Xi is the supposed apogee of free wheeling confident and independent China but as usual he is just another delusional tyrant at the end of his career. It will all come to a crisis sooner or later as the demographic problems coupled with a Pension crisis and a retired population the size of the American population and the hollowing out of unregulated finance companies and the property crash annihilating 25% of the economic base…… I could go on…

      @@bobmorane4926 There is a very different history between China and India. Back when Russia was part of the USSR, China and Russia were allies, even though Russia mistreated China sometimes because they saw them as an inferior party. Now China is the superior party in that relationship, and this can create tension when you have two rulers who see themselves as some kind of emperors.

    • @bobmorane4926
      @bobmorane4926 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AK-jm1sc You mean France doesn't hv any tension with Washington ? They always see eye to eye. Same with Germany , Italy and Turkey or even Israel. Tension is the constant of the day not the exception but if 2 leaders understand the big picture , tension become minor issues. The smart thing is to identify key issues that can prevent rapprochement between 2 countries. And definitely there's a huge one between China and India and it's certainly not the border clash. Russia and China resolved their issues long time ago and the overall picture dictate they are unofficially allies on most matters without any written agreement and that's very understandable.

    • @AK-jm1sc
      @AK-jm1sc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @bobmorane4926 No one said anything about any other countries. But this is about how two Authoritarian leaders who are situated next to each other will likely begin to experience increasing disputes, and Xi has some reasons to be frustrated with Putin too, as his war has created worsening economic situations, that are now effecting China's economy as well. You can also see that China doesn't quite consider Russia an "ally" as much as a strategic partner, as they have refused to send any lethal weapons to Russia since the war. So this shows that they have limits of support. And Russia might grow resentful towards China in the future, as they are increasingly relaying on the Chinese yuan to keep the economy active and overall, they are becoming very dependent on the "good will" of China to stay afloat. I don't think Putin is the type of person who is happy being a submissive partner to another powerful leader.

    China has certainly realized that Eastern Siberia is far more important to it's long term interests than a destroyed Taiwan. Attacking Twain will destroy Chinese technology and bring down the CCP, whereas waiting for Russia to collapse and then "relieving" Russia of the financial burden for developing this huge minerally rich area is a far bigger win for China and would make it virtually energy independent and a world power of unparalleled dimensions. In fact it would propel China from a rapidly failing power into the strongest economy by 2050!

    I am analyst whose focuses are China and Russia. Xi’s position isn’t nearly as strong as it was pre-COVID. Even though he’s purged so many party members not selected by him, there is a growing number of elite party members who do not like the direction he is taking the country. Whether they’ll find the nerve to do something is another matter. And among the people, not that it matters as much, he is also increasingly unpopular. Above all, the country is headed toward unavoidable economic downturns which will be dangerous to his rule.

    This was surprisingly good content, there is so much clearly shallow fear-mongering and agenda-promoting, this actually just seems to reflect what I witnessed there on the ground.
    There are many factions with many agendas, on all sides, none have yet reached a demonstrative consensus, though each is attempting. That's basically life everywhere but particularly in China right now.

You must constantly be on guard of your close neighbor for your national security ! It's a natural paranoia that always exists between close neighbors for their perceived survival !

    Only when Xi disappears because either he dies or is deposed in a way or another , only then a change is possible. As a doctor I see all the signs of aging in a very traumatised mind in a very consumed body. His"visions" as you called them, are the vision of a man whose body wants to go forward with his head turned 180 degrees towards his representation of the past.
    What a piece of work is a man. CCP is the negation of Hamlet. Shakespeare is the one I admire all over the rest of mankind.

    I was wondering whether it would be correct to say that in China meritocracy is respected, whereas, as we all know (and I do personally), in Russia you get promoted or even get a job after university depending on how much you give your political authority or professors. In Russia merit has nothing to do with promotion or professional success. The Chinese are more intelligent and realise that to make a country better function, you need intelligent and capable people in key positions.

    Even the finest warrior is defeated
    When he goes against natural law
    By his own hand he is doomed and all creatures are likely to dispise him
    One who knows Tao
    Never turn from life's calling, when at home he honours the side of rest
    When at war he honours the side of action, peace and tranquillity are what he holds most dear, so he does not obtain weapons
    But when their use is unavailable
    He employs them fortitude and zeal
    Do not flaunt your excellence
    Do not rejoice over victory
    With the loss of others
    Weep with sorrow and grief
    A after winning a battle
    Do not celebrate
    Observe the funeral rights

    42:20 yeah, the transformative powers of AI - about a thousand people have just been laid off in the Baltic countries by a Swedish company to be replaced by AI. On a short notice, without the offer to re-train. In countries where is isn´t so easy to find work. Truly transformative. Tony Blair can talk, with his rich pension for life. But he´s right, it´s like the Industrial Revolution. In the sense that it helps immensely but also destroys lives.

      Because today the US Is the common enemy to China and Russia now...... Superpowers can never co-exist without friction because of competition for global influence......the problem with the US is they created multiple enemies and when you create multiple enemies they will forge an alliance of convenience against you...... look at WW2 and Germany.......
