Russia and China resolved their issues long time ago and the overall picture dictate they are unofficially allies on most matters without any written agreement and that's very understandable.
@bobmorane4926 No one said anything about any other countries. But this is about how two Authoritarian leaders who are situated next to each other will likely begin to experience increasing disputes, and Xi has some reasons to be frustrated with Putin too, as his war has created worsening economic situations, that are now effecting China's economy as well. You can also see that China doesn't quite consider Russia an "ally" as much as a strategic partner, as they have refused to send any lethal weapons to Russia since the war. So this shows that they have limits of support. And Russia might grow resentful towards China in the future, as they are increasingly relaying on the Chinese yuan to keep the economy active and overall, they are becoming very dependent on the "good will" of China to stay afloat. I don't think Putin is the type of person who is happy being a submissive partner to another powerful leader.

Except the current Chinese government is not the continuation of the ancient Chinese culture and lineage, that is Taiwan. Current day China's identity rose in the 40's with the utter destruction of former China.
China has certainly realized that Eastern Siberia is far more important to it's long term interests than a destroyed Taiwan. Attacking Twain will destroy Chinese technology and bring down the CCP, whereas waiting for Russia to collapse and then "relieving" Russia of the financial burden for developing this huge minerally rich area is a far bigger win for China and would make it virtually energy independent and a world power of unparalleled dimensions. In fact it would propel China from a rapidly failing power into the strongest economy by 2050!
That was a perfectly informative and beautifully artistic speech, where each statement is clear and succinct yet elaborated, thoughtful and supplied with a reasonable amount of quotations and previously unknown details.

This interview was great.Xi went though alot to get wheres hes at, truly a success story indeed. The book sounds very interesting.Agian great interview Johnathan.
I am analyst whose focuses are China and Russia. Xi’s position isn’t nearly as strong as it was pre-COVID. Even though he’s purged so many party members not selected by him, there is a growing number of elite party members who do not like the direction he is taking the country. Whether they’ll find the nerve to do something is another matter. And among the people, not that it matters as much, he is also increasingly unpopular. Above all, the country is headed toward unavoidable economic downturns which will be dangerous to his rule.
The Russia-China oil pipeline fell through. Chinese maps have Russian cities north of China renamed to Chinese names. So much for “unlimited friendship“.
This was surprisingly good content, there is so much clearly shallow fear-mongering and agenda-promoting, this actually just seems to reflect what I witnessed there on the ground. There are many factions with many agendas, on all sides, none have yet reached a demonstrative consensus, though each is attempting. That's basically life everywhere but particularly in China right now.
... all what you are saying demonstrates once more how lucky we are to be Citizens of the West ... something that is fully understood by the millions of chinese and russian migrants who chose to come to live in our world ! Long Live the West! SLAVA UKRAINE ! from Italy ❤❤
The United States of America has been blessed by two oceans on both sides of us ! When you have two competing superpowers living side by side , there will always be suspicion of the other ! You must constantly be on guard of your close neighbor for your national security ! It's a natural paranoia that always exists between close neighbors for their perceived survival !
My understanding is Iran is also hot and cold on Russia, also back in the Soviet Empire days. But as things are, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Or maybe Friend"ish".
Quite fascinating and insightful. It seems that Russia is as alien and abhorrent to the China as it is to the West. The Chinese know how to play the game.
The real story behind the headlines is where this interview approached. I know the author you interviewed was trying to reveal the black box which is how China really runs. In this interview no one has come as close. Thank you.
Only when Xi disappears because either he dies or is deposed in a way or another , only then a change is possible. As a doctor I see all the signs of aging in a very traumatised mind in a very consumed body. His"visions" as you called them, are the vision of a man whose body wants to go forward with his head turned 180 degrees towards his representation of the past. What a piece of work is a man. CCP is the negation of Hamlet. Shakespeare is the one I admire all over the rest of mankind.
I was wondering whether it would be correct to say that in China meritocracy is respected, whereas, as we all know (and I do personally), in Russia you get promoted or even get a job after university depending on how much you give your political authority or professors. In Russia merit has nothing to do with promotion or professional success. The Chinese are more intelligent and realise that to make a country better function, you need intelligent and capable people in key positions.

FDR probably wasnt too fond of Stalin either, but stuck it out with him until the common enemy was defeated. I wouldn't necessarily count on a rift between Russia and China
Because today the US Is the common enemy to China and Russia now...... Superpowers can never co-exist without friction because of competition for global influence......the problem with the US is they created multiple enemies and when you create multiple enemies they will forge an alliance of convenience against you...... look at WW2 and Germany.......

Marvellous guest !
awsome interview!!!
🍎very interesting. Respect for the both of you. 👩🎓
Interesting insights thank you. Always Interesting subjects on Silicone Curtain
I have got the joke, I have sold anything that has a Chinese company in it. It maybe true that they have growth, but that does not transfer to value. Never again.
Excellent video!!! Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦!!!
Fascinating👍
Excelent choice of a guest. Thanks
Both hate each other and both know the other does too

Taiwan #1
This interview was great.Xi went though alot to get wheres hes at, truly a success story indeed. The book sounds very interesting.Agian great interview Johnathan.
Excellent discussion
Excellent episode very informative
I am analyst whose focuses are China and Russia. Xi’s position isn’t nearly as strong as it was pre-COVID. Even though he’s purged so many party members not selected by him, there is a growing number of elite party members who do not like the direction he is taking the country. Whether they’ll find the nerve to do something is another matter. And among the people, not that it matters as much, he is also increasingly unpopular. Above all, the country is headed toward unavoidable economic downturns which will be dangerous to his rule.
Will this increase chance of outward aggression by China?
The Russia-China oil pipeline fell through. Chinese maps have Russian cities north of China renamed to Chinese names. So much for “unlimited friendship“.
China on Hong Kong: One Nation, Two Systems! But nobody said that the two systems had to be different 😉
👍👍👍
Fascinating interview, thanks
... all what you are saying demonstrates once more how lucky we are to be Citizens of the West ... something that is fully understood by the millions of chinese and russian migrants who chose to come to live in our world !
Thanks for the update and views 🇺🇲🇺🇦

The real story behind the headlines is where this interview approached. I know the author you interviewed was trying to reveal the black box which is how China really runs. In this interview no one has come as close. Thank you.
Watching this after the US elections and wondering what will happen with the Trump win….
Great discussion!
This guy is always interesting
Only when Xi disappears because either he dies or is deposed in a way or another , only then a change is possible. As a doctor I see all the signs of aging in a very traumatised mind in a very consumed body. His"visions" as you called them, are the vision of a man whose body wants to go forward with his head turned 180 degrees towards his representation of the past.
What a piece of work is a man. CCP is the negation of Hamlet. Shakespeare is the one I admire all over the rest of mankind.
Please take care of your immigration problems before criticising president xi

I was wondering whether it would be correct to say that in China meritocracy is respected, whereas, as we all know (and I do personally), in Russia you get promoted or even get a job after university depending on how much you give your political authority or professors. In Russia merit has nothing to do with promotion or professional success. The Chinese are more intelligent and realise that to make a country better function, you need intelligent and capable people in key positions.

42:20 yeah, the transformative powers of AI - about a thousand people have just been laid off in the Baltic countries by a Swedish company to be replaced by AI. On a short notice, without the offer to re-train. In countries where is isn´t so easy to find work. Truly transformative. Tony Blair can talk, with his rich pension for life. But he´s right, it´s like the Industrial Revolution. In the sense that it helps immensely but also destroys lives.
What Swedish company is that?
Looking at the non-enviable state of Sweden , not a surprise
If you are directly affected , i am sorry and hope you will be able to find an alternative !
Enlightening.
"Collective behaviour"... Yeah right!
Great episode. I know this channel is mainly about Ukraine and the russian re-invasion. Would love though to have more about China, and even Iran and/or North Korea - autocracies that provide substansial support for the russian war effort.
The feeling is entirely mutual. 😅
China is alot more mutually dependent with the west than with Russia, and thats not going to change anytime soon.
