Imagine being this random dude, wanting to forget this moment at all cost but
seeing Will on half the channels and billboards
Hope he don't turn into a supervillain n come for Will
He had probably already forgot about it......
Shouldn't have punched him. Self control is Key is this game called life
@@ryanarenivar1 yeah he had no right to hit him. He could have just let it go.
BerzerK don’t worry I’m sure he still has the Hancock suit
I got in one little fight, and my mom got scared...
😂😭 This comment needs about 1.5k more likes.
This is so silly but it made me laugh. Good stuff lol

she said your moving with your aunty and uncle in bel-air
ty py this is a underrated comment lmao
That dude probaly tells people all the time i dropped will smith back in grade school and no one believed him till now lol
conflicc ricks lmao
conflicc ricks lol
conflicc ricks I’m pretty sure that kid is not alive. Punching someone because of words wow, imagine what would happen if you touched him
@lol wat? I think Will was right things probably went downhill from then on with that guy. That punch was a " catalyst" negatively for that guys life.
DAAAMN... True That!
*“I have this thing with fear, I don’t like being scared”*
edit: I know it’s deeper than that, I just thought it was funny when I first heard it. Sorry if it was misinterpreted.

*OM-GOSH ME TOO*
You have to listen between the words. He meant that he had to confront it to come to terms with it so that it didn't get the best of him.
WR3ND true but its still funny
was this really worth quoting lmao
WR3ND Exactly!
Will continues to be one of my favorite people on earth
Joshua Scott agreed
You haven't met me yet, but I see why you like Will. 😋

Wow what a story! It would be so cool if that person watches this and responds.

That’s a punk. He looped a combination lock around his finger to punch a guy. What a punk.
@@ManPursueExcellence More than a punk
Lol... imma use that now
You may have that effect, but he decided the outcome and acted on it.
Most incidents I have seen H.S ended up as a push and/or shove and some words.
Putting a lock into your hand as a brass knuckle means that person already had that type of brutal mentality.
nuffflavor I agree
Real talk
And he was a big coward
PREACH!
That was Philly mentality. During that time, as ruthless and petty as it is, disrespect of any kind was brutal and their was a consequence for crossing that boundary. Young boys and girls had to prove they weren’t wimpy enough to let someone clown them and get away with it. Attacking Will was his way of earning respect. there were far more dangerous acts of violence going on in that high school and around that city. These were rough times. 😥
Anyone else high key obsessed with these story times
Staceussy yea and I’m dying to know did he find out who/where the guy is now

The….slap
That's really neat that rather than victim blame, Will Smith was able to perceive the situation in the way that could empower him the most. Hats off to you, it's hard to make such a conscience decision to grow.
Mike S I think indirectly he was a victim of circumstance. And he was putting his shit onto Will Smith. Will could have looked at the dude as some awful bully and felt it was all that dude's fault but Will didn't do that. Will recognized where he contributed to an escalating situation while simultaneously acknowledging this other kid's humanity. I believe it allowed Will to ultimately become a bigger person and hence why he is the person we love today.
So basically he got checked and learned to watch his mouth lol.
dcta51 exaaaactly 😂👍👍👍
thats exactly the opposite of what he's saying, it was the kid getting arrested that made him think about the power of consequence, not the punch. Watch the fucking video
i did..and its basically him saying i got checked and learned to watch my mouth stretched to 5 minutes and 21 seconds 🤣
I honestly can't get enough of your channel, I could listen to these stories for days!

It was important that you learnt how powerful our words can affect people.
But he had a choice.
Your spirit is beautiful.
You are a true empath🙌
If that guy didn’t do something back to will his friends would of bitched him the whole year
Zainab Agbaje
I think it was Will’s and that violent kid’s fault. If Will didn’t say what he said then I assume his chances of getting punched that day would be much lower. This is not to justify what that kid did to Will though 😢
Raphael Kefsenidis he should have never said no one cares about your entrance and in that case you gotta think he could have been in wills place he could be co staring in a movie with will he could be one of the highest paid actors, you gotta think is it really worth it he just ruined his career tryna impress a few friends
friendly_user 123 well its mostly the kids fault, he didn’t have to state that no one cared and will would’ve never said what he said, that kid was probably already a bad person and finally got what was coming
I agree, the guy really shouldn’t have said anything to Will, and when Will dissed him he could have just ignored it, and if his friends are gonna dog him over it he would be better off making new friends, and even when he had the thought to go and get the lock he could have dismissed the idea, or changed his mind at the time when he saw Will but he didn’t and it cost him, good for Will for owning his portion of the issue but seems to me he is also taking on more than his part... I think that is why Will is a great guy, he will take on more than what is his fault which allows him to occupy greater spaces of power than a person who won’t even take responsibility for things that are their fault... 🙏🏽💒🙏🏽 Hope and pray the young mans life eventually turned around...
What a heart and what a mind. Thank you Will. It’s the national day of action against bullying here in Australia today. Such a timely message that all our words effect those around us. Humility and kindness always.
but always keep in mind to not let this strave off in a ridiculous manner

Wait what?
I have heard of people wanting to knock some sense into someone, but it takes someone painfully self-aware to be able to take a beating like that and consider their own part in it. No, it was not Will's fault and he did not deserve that kind of response to a single instance of shit talk. However, his ability to think deeply about it at such a young age and find a way to better himself is highly admirable. So many others get hit by a fist (or life in general) and only want to hit back or take a more cynical outlook on life. Will gets hit and, rather than feel weak, realized his own strength and set out on a mission to make others strong as well. This is why we love him.
A H C yesssss totally agree. I’m so for self-awareness. So hard to achieve but so worth it
A H C it was his fault
No, it wasn't. We are each our own person who are capable of making our own decisions. I have NEVER punched anyone despite the seemingly endless amount of bullying I've dealt with throughout my life. It's a choice.
That kid had no idea who he punched was going to become. It wasn't Will's fault he punched him, he made a decision and probably learned a valuable lesson himself.
Funny Instagram Vines this is abt fault vs responsibility
Its also about making choices too
Both of their faults
how is it both of their fault, if the guy had control of his own hands.
Funny Instagram Vines tru. Indeed it was his choice. If not will .somone else. He had a choice . He could have not said anything at all.
I think it's amazing how you have entered the youtube space, I hope others follow your foot steps, seeing behind the scenes of a celebrity like your self is pretty incredible. You have always been an inspiring individual for me, and you are a big reason why I started my channel.

Teddy Seymour ...I could too. Could see the crowd and the locker on the hand along with the punch very vivid description.
Will Smith has always been special and now he is making other people special with his words.
your perspective speaks volumes to me. at first i thought "but that wasn't your fault self control is something every parent needs to teach their child" but then it hit me. cause and effect. because of your fear (cause) you made an outburst (effect) and because of your outburst (cause) he made one. which led to another one, ending in an violent action (effect) meaning there was no self control in either of you. bringing you to the decision of being positive in all you say. it means a lot to me because i was bullied and a bully. now I'm a 37yrold woman and my life isn't the best i became a statistic do to my own actions. i am trying to do better for myself and my children but i never understood "why me." i now realize that the why doesn't matter. what mattered was "why did i." now i will let go of that past and move forward with my life. I'm not the one in story but because of your openness about it i am the one you helped as always thank you for your inspiration. i will continue to work to get my family out of the situation i created but this time i will be more determined and happy
Castle Brem , amen and we should all look at ourselves with the wisdom you have..much love and prayers going to you and your beautiful family..💖💖💖

He didn't have to hit you though. That was his choice.

Mr.J He didnt just get punched he basically got brass knuckled. Could have been more serious 😓
shadowseer07 That's the hood. Different rules.
shadowseer07 was that a Jada reference? ;)
What?
😂
The larger story isn't about whose fault it was. The larger story was about recognizing our power to affect change in people's lives--for good or evil. It is about taking responsibility for that power.
Let's face it, he could have made the whole story about the other kid's poor choice. He didn't. He took ownership of his own choices and the effect they have on others.
I'm glad he makes videos like this. These are things we can all stand to be reminded of.
Well said...
spot on
Exactly.

Responsibility

That emotion was already within that dude ,what happened to him was not your faul
Dear people who keep saying he's too hard on himself:
The point of his story is to share what catalyzed his life to use his power of voice and charisma to inspire others. Even though it wasn't Will's fault, he still played a role in it, a role he aimed to never play again.
trying to not play this role can go off into absolutely ridiculous ways
F. K. Yeah if done so without reason, but what's life without conviction and resolve?
the reason just needs to be within a rational field of thought. feelings shouldnt develop into irrational thought or actions
@F.K.
How is it irrational to want to inspire, enlighten or help others? You sound like a sad individual, who would rather waist his time to energy making excuses to hate the world and others around him, than to improve his own life and help others to improve themselves.
I was that guy at one point in my life, but I changed. Adults are meant to grow as people, learn from mistakes and improve themselves. If they cannot, then they are truly a waist of life. I am not saying that you should be superman, you cannot control what you cannot see or hear. Things you cannot physically touch. But you can open your mind to the possibility of helping yourself and helping others around you have a better life.
I made those steps, you can to. I really hope you do... Have a nice day buddy!
Wrote is so beautifully. 💜

This channel is absolutely refreshing. Keep it up.
This channel is your best work Will Smith ever. And I love your movies.
I concur
This story helps people like me who feel that it’s better to have that kind of confidence. Will Smith learned this when he was still in high school. The man was beyond his years. No wonder he grew up to become the phenomenon he is known for today.
And just like that you can be humbled.
Will is a fine example of learning lessons from bad experiences.
Many people would have looked at that as someone testing their ego which needs to be defended. But he learnt next time when walking into a room, inspire. Not walk in with your ego next to you...
The Force is strong with him
I swear i see you on every video i watch
He's probably a fan now

PLEASE continue with the film look (grain & colorgrading) - It's so refreshing to see someone on youtube use this kind of aesthetic look, which compliment the storytelling aspect aswell.
He's so humble, even in the most horrible situations. I love that, not many people like that today.
Will, I first was suspicious about you being on TH-cam. But now I understand that this was the right choice for you! You got so much experience in life and had so much decisions to make and we young people can profit from that.
Thank you very much!
We love you Will! It was not your fault that the guy decided to punch you, he could've just let it go and laughed it off! But good message
Nihil Genus My thoughts exactly!
Then maybe Will wouldn't have learned that lesson, life is more complex than it seems, and simplier with things like the one you said cause it's true of course.
Yeah hence why I said 'good message' I think Will learnt a good lesson about life but he shouldn't hold himself responsible for the boys actions, which is another good life lesson to learn... not taking responsibility for everything because that creates unnecessary tension.
Nihil Genus I think he "felt guilty" cause something he said made someone feel something bad instead of something good leading him towards that action (and not for the kid decision); and yeah I agree it was the kids decision to do that but, maybe as much as Will, the kid didn't thought it would escalate that far, and how were they supposed to know that? Life lessons are hard as much it was for Will for the better, maybe it was for the kid for the worst (hope it wasn't though), we don't even know how was the life of that kid before that happened, neither do Will. Lets hope he is alive and ok and his life has taken off for the better instead of the worst :)
chidowuan The kid thought about and took the time to get his lock, put it around his finger and in his hand to smack somebody in the head. I wouldn't even come up with that. He knew excactly what he was doing and what the results would be. If this wouldn't have happened, he'd be in jail for something else. But good for Will to make the best out of a bad situation.
Will one of my principles of living are Inspire, Empower, Enlighten, Enliven, and Uplift. My whole being lit up with joy when you said each and everyone of those words! I’m glad to know others carry such principles within themselves as they walk around this planet. Thank you.

Weapon X EezyGang
Will, it’s good that you spoke to the person that assaulted you back then. However, that guilt that you’ve carried, is not your burden to bear. That “gentleman” made the decision to attack you based on simple words. He could have easily killed you. One of the things that I’m trying to teach my daughters is that you don’t give other people the power to affect your emotions based on words.
I agree. There was malicious intent and planning involved in unlocking a lock and then using it as a weapon. In fact, I imagine that if Will hadn't said anything he probably still would have gotten beat, as this kid in the story was essentially projecting his authority. Anything short of subservience is challenging his authority and grounds for punishment.

Wow! Will Smith is legitimately a standup guy! I met him in Philly near my condo and I can attest that everything they say about him is true. He is honestly a down-to-earth person that makes other people feel good about themselves. It’s inspiring to know what motivates that character trait and how truly and divinely blessed and mature he was to have come to that revelation at such a young age.
Yes amazing! Always wondered why he always just came off as a real stand up guy!
Will, but it was his choice to hit you! You didn't cause him to do anything. He made a choice to hurt you! Sweet what you said and I feel where you are coming from, but you are not liable for any person's actions- only your own. Love & Light to you💕
Will Smith is such a kind soul and one of the realist people in this world. This generation today needs more people like him
This didn't age well
This should serve as a good counterargument against the whole "words are just words toughen up" because the thing is, some might be able to take it, some may not, but that's the thing, you don't know who's tough enough to handle their emotions
Thank you Will Smith, Westbrook Studios and team !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

‘10 mins n your girl gonna care’ 😂😂😂😂😂
He feels bad that the kid went to jail , but hey that kid didn’t have to take it that far with the lock .. he did it to himself !!
This reminds me of a story that my father told me about one of his old friends. He told me about a kid who hit someone else with a lock (in a similar way as this). The kid was violent and dangerous. He went to some sort of special school, graduated then did something that got him out in jail. When he was let out he got married and got his wife pregnant... after a while it came out that he was beating his pregnant wife. Now he's in prison...
Guess the point of this comment is that if someone is violent enough to hit someone like this (for no real reason), odds are they would have thrown there life away at some other point.

Exactly what I thought.
I agree completely.....unless they get help
To everyone that is saying he should have been behind bars, I disagree with you on that. people can change. High school is too young to throw someone's life away just because of one bad decision. Yah, maybe he would have be a not so good person, or maybe he was just getting defensive like any normal kid would if someone said something like Will had. And yah, he took it to far, but high school kids with messed up hormones tend to do that. I just feel like jail is a bit to extreme for a kid, and can throw someone's whole entire life down the drain just because of a kid taking something a bit too far, which they tend to do. This comment is not meant to disrespect Will or anyone else, It is just to make people realize that you can feel all high and mighty on your computer saying he was going to grow up to be a criminal, but if you were to actually just truly look at him you would probably just see a real kid, with a real family. I don't know why it is so hard to get that in people's brain.
What an inspiring Man! Been a great fan of yours since independence day. Wish I was born earlier to witness you're earlier success. Thank you for putting this message out like a hero you always are, it really touches my heart and change the way I look at life.
Despite the very inspiring lesson that Will learned, he can't really blame himself for that guy's demise because he really messed hinself up and should be apologizing to Will.
No Will is right he recognized that his actions caused the boy to do something that he wouldnt have done in the moment if Will wouldnt haven't done a thing
@@deadlymerlin crackin someone in the head with a lock because of words is pure violence. He needed anger management. He would have done it to again no problems.
@@irishcountrygirl78 you dont know and cant say that without a shadow of doubt. You are assuming that because of this one instance of violence that this kid would have done something else which isnt true. There are many people that have done violent things for less than words that dont continue down that path and end up making something of themselves....but lets just say you are right what does that have to do with the fact that will's action on that day in the cafeteria caused that boy to react violently. You saying he woulda have done it eventually doesnt mean that Will's actions on that day didnt cause him to be violent. Its just means you think he would become violent again in the future for a different reason
You can't show up to a black school and be a cocky POS kid and think nothing will happen to you, I think he was lucky
Was Will famous that time?
I think that this mentality (3:49) is what defines Will Smith today. I haven't see him do anything on purpose to make anyone mad. Pure joy and good vibes.
@willsmith literally spend my sat. a.m. in bed watching all your channel's videos back to back & I am obsessed! Not only cus I've been a fan like forever, but because you have shown your subs a more vivid look on who you really are and what you stand for. These videos are beautifully inspiring and humorously done like only you could do for sure! Thank you for that and plz plz plzzzzzzzzz dont stop UNLOADING!
Liliana Velasquez. Agree, they are very addictive lol, someone I've admired since my school days.
Yeah, think Wil will keep unloading for Liliana so she doesn't have to leave the bed.
Flip side is that his arrest, may have actually saved someone else's life. Dude had violence/anger issue. My willy could of died!!! 😢😢😢😢
Your willie? 😏
@@droinfante2682 his willie ;)
@@RealKevinOnTH-cam in his pants
Amen!!!👍👍👍🙂🙂🙂
My Wille???? You better be a female?🤔🤣
Will's reached a mill so fast, TH-cam's probably not yet realised they've got to send him the silver play button, forget about the gold. It'll probably be time for the diamond soon...😯
Mad props. Real men take accountability and responsibility for their actions or in this case their role in a situation.
What an amazing life lesson to learn so young!
Just wanted to say how much I’ve always enjoyed watching and listening to your entertainment since your start.
Catching up on your channel today, and it’s been nothing but full pleasure.
A side note: you’ve always reminded me of my “little” brother. 🙌🏻💗
Love it when you upload Will ❤️❤️
That must’ve been a heavy burden to carry so young. Tho I’m glad u found a lesson for urself after that moment... it wasn’t ur fault.
He assaulted a man leaving him blind in 1989
domi bryant he did??!
@@domibryant2257 wasn't that Mark Wahlberg?
Jason Mhm he did but that don’t matter
you sound like a straight-up fool woman.
You're a true inspiration and a truly good person, I'm grateful for everything you've given us.
Will is so genuine
Lomesa excuse me but u a stupid b . Theres many adjectives u cud attribute to will , but "genuine" must be one of the last . . ..will is an actor maam
I love what Will is doing, he's so authentic, real, loving, carefree, funny inspiring, powerful stuff thank you for talking I really appreciate your stories
Lomesa
Genuinely part of the illuminati .
Fuck him
John Smith
John Smith,
Fuck you.
Y’all need to stop hating with that “illuminati” bullshit.
It’s not real.
BLACK MAN the fact that you call urself "black man " proves your general and personal ignorance and your weak mind . Smh
You are a great Storyteller!
It's always good to learn from other's experience.
Keep Telling us stories.
Thanks.
You didn't cause his down fall. He chose to react to your action in a negative light. Regardless of how much positive and light you bestow, some people are just too consumed by their own darkness to receive it.
La' Vy
That’s not the moral of the story.
The message is that we shouldn’t project our insecurities onto others because it’s a lose-lose for everyone involved.
Smith’s “fear” is what caused the whole altercation.
#Snowball Effect
BLACK MAN that wasn’t either.
So are you saying Will is to be blamed for the attack made on him?
La' Vy youre wrong
yall have no compassion, will does
Glenis G. Will is to blame you put out bad energy you get it back ten fold you can’t do something to somebody and be mad at their reaction you started it point blank period
Will Smith is a genuine bloke, I find it hard to fault him tbh. I had a knife pulled on me when I was 15, I know the lad who did it has since died (he grew up in Forest Town Avenues, Mansfield) I felt nothing when I found out but now I feel I should keep something close to my chest
It would be crazy if you meet the guy from this and do a vid
He should try!
The thing is, what would Will do if he finds the guy in prison? What would he do if he found him homeless? Or unemployed with 3 kids? There are many variables... Things that could make Will feel even worse about it than he already does.
Or he could find him as an outstanding human being. Making the moral of this story null and void. xD
Figured I would add my 2 sense. Either way, it would be cool to know what happened. :P
love these kind of videos!🙌🙏😊
milo miriam
And I love u❤
milo miriam welcome back to my channelllllllll
I once got into a fight with a kid when I was in 7th grade, my first fight ever and it was all cuz he cut in the line to buy lunch, just in front of me. I remember telling him to move out politely and the next thing I knew was that we both were in the principals office, I with a purple eye and he with his mouth bleeding. And believe or not, that madafaka is one of my best mates as of today.
😂😂😂😂
Damn this is a great story. Will took full accountability for how his words made that other dude feel. That’s radical accountability. And we all need to take radical accountability for how our words or actions impact others 💛
Damn that was super deep will ... Just goes to show how good of a person you are ... No other celeb would ever put out a video like this... Thats what makes you you man .. Im going to try my hardest to do the same ...
Wow the message is so appropriate in the age of nasty and hateful comments on social media.
This video was deep and honorable! Much respect!
It takes a strong person to apologize to someone who does something that bad to you.
