    "The “noise” which Nightwish talks about in this song is a metaphor for constantly being plugged into the “matrix”. Or a simpler way of putting it is that this song is based on the concept of the modern human dependency on electronic media being a bad thing. And there is a special emphasis on social media, as the band portrays vesting in online personas as being a vain pursuit. And in the same time there is a beautiful nature and Life going on outside of the devices screen.."

    Tuomas thinks the video is not dark but its rather positive 😄 Also he didn't wanted to do videos anymore but Floor wanted, and he said he would only do it if there are no scenes at all with musicians playing their instruments 😂

  • @kentk2215
    @kentk2215 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    The girl playing Floor’s daughter in the video is NOT her real daughter. She would not put her in a video, preferring to keep their family life more private. I see it being more about self-absorption, vanity, narcissism, and hypocrisy, than anything, and how those things are played out online in social media. I take it more as a warning or a wake-up call. When it kicks in with heavier music, you see each character’s hidden reality . It’s a great video with so many visual messages. It makes you think.

    • @themajor743
      @themajor743 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely. I forwarded a link to this video to all my friends who tend to get lost in the "sunless world" of emails, texts, and dark social media as soon as I saw it. It's all there: Marko peddling fat-away and male-enhancement pills (eventually realizing they don't work) - A crowd of people sitting in front of one of the worlds greatest pieces of art ignoring it completely while staring at their phones - someone (Emppu) getting "canceled" online whereupon everyone turns on him - the pretty tik-toc model representing the whole online "sex-sells" thing - and finally the camera pulls back from the people strapped in and wired to the network, rising to show the beauty of the real world they've become divorced from.
      I think that this is the cleverest thing Nightwish has ever produced.

    Tuomas himself said in an interview that people read too much into this video. It wasn't meant to be critical or depressing, it was meant as a parody. He finds it amusing, especially because so many people misinterpret it.

    Imagine having all this beauty around you (the forest, the Mona Lisa) and instead you ignore it all in favor of being 'plugged in'. Yet that's exactly what so many people do IRL nowadays. I have to sit out on my back porch and watch the sun set every so often to feel whole. Breathe in the fresh air and watch the bees buzz my flowers. I wax sentimental at times, and remember the simpler times of my youth with fondness, when there were no smart phones, no internet. My friends and I would hang out on a summer night and listen to the radio or our favorite cassettes/CDs on the boom box by my pool or my friend's basketball court. Friendships seemed so much more real back then.

    It's a great video and a great mirror commentary on how society has become today. I love how they have the baby at the beginning force feed media content and how he is unable to get away as he gets older. But then you get to see the darkside of it all as the video progresses to the end. This song is on their newest record, for me some of the songs will take multiple hearings to understand what Toumass' is trying to get through to people.📱

    The video is about how we use tech and how we have forgotten everything from outside of the screen.

  • @valksyvalksington6155

    This video is such an utterly savage indictment on social media - the switching between the facades and the grim reality, almost diabolical, is pretty rough viewing and yet utterly fascinating and hard to look away from.
    Begs the question here - are we looking into the "black mirror" (our phones and devices) to ESCAPE a diabolical world, or is the world grotesque and awful because we are too distracted? Think about how the child is placed in the viewing helmet at the start - does that not infer there is an external manipulation as well?
    The most jarring bit and the the part I can't help but dwell on - the cowled figures viewing their phone instead of the Mona Lisa. One man (Empuu) seems to wake up...and is immediately set on and beaten by the others. Violence is allowed the break the mesmerising spell but divine art is not? And then the coda of a man in the foreground (Kai) taking a selfie with the beating in the background. Good grief that is a dark sequence!

    Its about the addiction to technology, smart devices and "social" media. We are so focused on how we reprented ourselves on social media/the content countless "influencers" create on social media that we fail to see the true beauty of genuine human relations, wonders of the nature and just being there on the moment. We practically live in "matrix", a kind of artificial reality with our smart phones, instagram accounts etc.

  • @billtbodger
    @billtbodger ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I love this song, it is creepy in a way but a reflection of how society is becoming, they will sit in front of a great piece of art and look at it on their phone screens, it is about how the media is feeding a narcissistic society and desire for instant gratification in all things. The statement is so powerfully made and musically wonderful, there is a glimmer of hope at the end when it shows a sunrise on the forest

    I just commented on Tank's interview with Elizabeth Zharoff, that one of my reasons for watching reactions is to help me understand songs better. I'm german. So: interpretaion of lyrics in english is not always easy.
    Before the reaction-hype, I sometimes tried to find something down the internet. And once came to an interpretation on Leonard Cohen's "first we take Manhattan", that was such a bull...frog. I gave up, after that one. It was from another german, O.K.
    But he was a professor, here in Germany.
    *hint* might be worth a reaction. I LOVE that version by Jennifer Warnes. I could give you a few hints, what to look up on wikipedia, before watching the song. With that, the first minute of the song will bring all that to reason, already.
    Greetings from the far north of Germany.

      As an American who only knows tourist German, Rammstein does that for me. Other German bands I don't bother understanding or are straightforward, but I think Rammstein like to mess with us, just a bit 😅🤷

    But... The Instagram model was doing "Windmills"
    "What is happening?"
    Leprechaun was Tuomas! Treehugger, anti Nuclear, supporting Nuclear if it suits.
    They all took part, Troy on the throne/toilet, Marko being a villan, poor Emppu, mean Kai!
    Floor with a megaphone must have been terrifying, did the litttle girl flinch?
    "That was a lot!" Yep, takes many watches...
    I recently noticed Floors many different hairstyles,
    the background changing from oil refinery with Tuomas in the bath,
    to Pripyat, the deserted radioactive town of Chernobyl with Floor.
    Troy taking a photo of the flowers, then throwing them away, leaving only the digital version.

    Nightwish never disappoints :) I remember the day of this Single release (was a first song from a new album), so much chills through watching the video and then listening the song over and over. This album just surpassed anything I knew.
    To suggest something "lighter" I think you may like Visions of Atlantis. The band was insipred by Nightwish over 20 years ago and last month they have released a new album: Pirates. I enjoyed a lot of their songs but this new album brought me back to listening to them. Melancholy Angel has its own video and it's amazing (as a song), but my top3 are Darkness Inside, Clocks and Pirates Will Return. I think Melancholy and Clocks may be especially great to hear :) (Clocks may barely touch Noise through it's climate).
    Hope to see more videos from Symphonic Metal! :) A lot of bands are doing incredible job, including Beyond the Black, Stratovarius, Kamelot, Ignea and finally Ancient Bards and Arion. So much content :D

    🤩👌💥💯
    ... Again for the song/video...
    Not for the reaction....
    Is she really lost in "Noise" voidness which is soooo easy these days when we're surrounded with screens from where to get the 'influencer' pattern on our daily living...
    - I Refuse In It -
    After all her Nightwish reactions... This wasn't there. 🤧

    Being totally clueless and having no idea about what's going on is a reaction too.Some people get it and some don't.And some people try while some don't.This was meh. Also shooting star over the video was unnecessary.Thank you, next.

    Aw, it's not as creepy as Bluebeard's Castle. And you don't look the least bit hirsute.

    Please react to Igorrr - Tout Petit Moineau live @ Dour festival 2014. Classical singer (Laure Le Prunenec) going 🔥rogue🔥 on a music style the producer calls Baroquecore (a type of breakcore), so classical meets rave. It'll be right up your alley and I've yet to see a pro reaction to this. 🙏

    Et muuten ymmärtänyt yhtään mitään koko ajatusta etkä koko maailmaa ko. biisistä. Sinä oleti ilmeisesti aivan mahtava laulaja ja sitä varmaakin olet, mutta et kyllä ymmärtänyt koko mahtavaa Nightwish-kappaletta. Ei siinä mitään. Olet kommentoinut lähes kaikkia biisejä mielestäni ammattitaidolla. Olet muuten kyllä superammattilainen. Olet aiana tervetullut Suomeen talvella sekä kesällä. Olet aivan mielettömän kaunis nainen. Olisi mukava tavata ja opettaa sinut hiihtämään talvella ja uimaan sekä saunomaan kesällä. Kaikkea hyvää sinulle täältä Suomesta! T. Parta Jukka ( Beard of Jukka)

    Yes it is Floor Jansen's child in the video named Freja (the name of Vikings Goddess "(the) Lady" is associated with love, beauty, fertility, sex, war, gold, and seiðr (magic for seeing and influencing the future), modern forms of the name include Freya, Freyia, and Freja).

      Is not their daughter Freja, when the album was released in 2020, Freja was 3 years old

      Its not Freija ... Floor and Hannes make sure that Freja is never shown from the front, even in home stories, and if she is, then only extremely blurred.

    I had to dislike this video because I was expecting more comments from Maggie. About the song/video anything. So sorry. Try harder next time.
