I remember the days of being a lil tyke and being mesmerized by this soundtrack when I discovered that stump. Definitely the most calming and atmospheric of the bunch, Grant Kirkhope is a godsend 🤘
For sure.. near Treasure Trove Cove. You have to get 650 notes and stomp the Jiggy plate balls deep in the Lair to actually pay the 12 jiggys to activate it.
My favorite part is the double flute at 0:29, they fit together so well. I used to just stay near the tree stump and listen to the soundtrack. It's just beautiful
The best version of the Grunty Lair theme imo, and with the way Click Clock Wood is presented, one playing for the first time wouldn't expect it to be the last world, Rusty Bucket felt more like it could have been the last world with its darker tone and sheer difficulty but the game threw a curve ball with a relaxing (but difficult) world to end things off
I know right? And I think that makes this generally a very well-designed game. You know what's also interesting? 8 is a common number for the amount of levels/worlds in a game, meanwhile Banjo Kazooie has nine, Rusty Bucket is the 8th. Possibly another small factor accounting for this world being a surprise, and a pleasant one at that. I love the unique idea of having a serene level as the last one.

There’s rumors that this was originally meant to be the lair theme for Fungus Forest, a level that got scraped and later brought back in DK64. If we listen well, it doesn’t match Click Clock Wood’s theme very much, but it does match Fungi Forest from DK64… Also, the fact that Click Clock Wood’s jigsaw picture is located in a relatively early section of Gruntilda’s Lair is also a clue.

Even though this is the last world before Grunty’s Furnace Fun, I like how they placed the world picture very early in the game.
