My tip for the front of the cabin under the Windows, you should build a large bench all the way. Perfect location for the sun, hides the bottom of the cabin and gives you lots of seating space
Dang Graeme, I was expecting bagpipe music and a jig when you started the compressor 😂 maybe with you edited into a kilt with long socks & dance shoes 😂😂
So glad you shingled between the windows. Love the hack of spray painting all the cut edges of the little shingles at once. And I didn't think I could hate mushrooms more...🤢 The cabin is looking super good, Graeme! Makes us want to get up to our cabin and do some more finish work. Keep on keepin' on, Dr. Woodness!
I like the bench storage idea for the gap between the porch and wall. Looks great , getting close to doing the inside work! Enjoy the new year and thanks for the videos!
We use Dap indoor/outdoor sealant, paintable,to fill all paintable holes and joints. It has a bit of silicone in it so it stays flexable and the paint never peels off it. You are talented with the caulking so you should end up with really nicely finished trimming. I love this little cabin. It already looks very relaxing and calming, soothing to the soul.
Holy Woodness Sidingness Baby!!!! Now it is shaping up into a beautiful cabin my friend. It is absolutely about time you took care of the mushroom bedding for the little friends that no one invited. Make a mushroom tea for yourself lol. You’re really getting after it now. Especially from 3 days into the future lol. I like the idea of the bench seat outside across that wall to cover the void, it would look great. Keep getting after it big G.
Glad to see you aligned your siding, I see a lot of guys do a band board to cover the extra bit that is lower but I agree with you the first strip being thinner is totally fine.
I had this idea for the space below the window wall but above the deck: Build a couple of plywood boxes (say 24-36 inches deep) and hang them from the floor joists. Build a number of hatches to cover them up. These boxes can house items like a bbq grill, lawn chairs, an outside table. Basically the stuff you need outside on the deck... Keeping them under the cabin keeps the inside of the cabin a lot less cluttered... Maybe you can do the same for the side wall and even have a firewood storage on the back window which is set partially under the floor as well is the diagonals for the foundation posts are not too much in the way...
Sooooo glad you chose to use the small cuts. The multiple horizontals really balance the strong verticals. Pleasing to the eye. Still am opting for a deep, dark muted green.
I cant help but imagine built in bench over the gap between deck and front window wall. somewhere to eat, or drink morning coffee, or sunset wine, or read in the sunshine outside. could even do a table later and make it an outdoor dining area.
Looking great, G! ❤❤❤ One thing that might make the skinny siding area easier, is to run a bead of Lexel along the window edges then lay and tack the siding.
Great to see you're doing things as the Winter approaches. Hope you can get all the siding on before the heavy stuff comes in. Maybe have a friend help for a day or two to finish the siding and then kick out the interior sealing of windows to strengthen the big ones. I have my build in TN (610sq ft) and have the fun of crawling under home and insulating and wire meashing for the floors. Ugh and nothing like doing that in the winter. Love watching you and enjoy your interaction with the cam/viewer's. Have a great blessed New Year's! And may you be blessed! 🙏
An idea for that gap between the windows and deck: A long bench seat? A row of box planters? Alternating bench seats and box planters! Maybe just a storage box to organize all your yo-yos...
As you were masking for the calk, I could see into the cabin…the sun was shining on the warm wood of the door. ✨ It really is a warm, cozy and peaceful place. Happy New Year, Graeme, to you and your family! The cabin is really beautiful, and hopefully 2025 will be a fun year, as the cabin nears completion.
Looks Beautiful! Great choice for cutting all the little pieces. Defines the windows and keeps aesthetics of siding uniform. Can’t wait to see the paint job! Happy New Year Graem Family!
No advice on keeping tools handy, other than having a helper at all times. 🤷♀️ We filled nail holes with DAP silicone caulk(the paintable type). Everything is looking so good Graham! Hope you and your whole family have a happy, fun New Years! 🎉
How good it looks. If you want dark walls I suggest Orange window and door frames. Cut out some sample frames from cardboard and test paint them and attach around some windows so you can see what color looks good before you paint the finished trim. You have a modern look to the house and Black/orange is a modern combination now.
36:20 Cut tip: As long as you're holding the speed square there, slide it over against saw base, and use it as a guide. Guaranteed straight cuts. Good call on mini siding between trim. If you look at some old clapboard-sided homes, you will see they used to align siding with top and bottoms of doors and windows, by increasing or decreasing the reveal dimension equally within each section. Of course, easier when reveal is more like 4". Between bottom and top of a window reveal might be 3 7/8". Then from the top of those windows to the top of a door it might be 4 1/4". Not super noticeable difference, but the alignments look sharp.
Looking great. As for the woodstove, I think you should put it right in front of the window. It is the only thing you can put in front of the window that won't block that stellar view. My 2 cents, lol.
That is beautiful my friend. I hope everyone reading this has had a wonderful Christmas and I wish every single one of you a peaceful and prosperous new year! Cheers friends!
I really am enjoying watching your progress. The one thing that concerns me is nailing your trim. You are nailing 1 nail in the center of the trim, which in time will allow the trim to cup and the edges to raise up. The proper way of nailing trim is 2 nails side by side on the edge of the trim. The cabin is looking awesome. You're doing a great job, Graham. You and your family are going to enjoy your cabin for many years to come 👍
I agree, it breaks up the lines. Looks great man! Oh! I want to make you lazy like I am. Next time, cut a 6 1/4 boars so you don't need the tape measure every board, lol looks beautiful man! Happy New Year!
My suggestion for the 2" pieces... Predrill them in the center so the nail doesn't split the hardy planks. You may want to use a laser to line it all up, or predraw the marks of where the tops of the boards are. Also, since you are getting weather, you may want to caulk what is already completed so as to seal that up.
Another tip for caulking... Have a small 1gallon bucket with warm water and a yellow sponge block. Use the sponge to wipe away the excess caulk. This will save you a ton on the price of blue tape. And the time.
Great progress. Could you maybe build a built-in bench across the front? To come out and have your morning coffee, tea or AG-1? It would be hide the the underside of the cabin, you could store cushions and such (window cleaning tools) underneath and create a surface to stand on to help you wash all of those front windows. Happy New Year.
So I'm sure other people have had ideas how about the deck and I was one of the people who originally said you should have it lower, mostly to hug the ground and reduce trouble building it but also to not block the window view window view and then the nice side effects that you have this great spot there for a bench along the whole front, and then you can even do like a secret door / hatch in part of the bench bands for the kids to go through under the house girls to go through under the house and get you stuff
Putting the pieces between the window was worth the extra bit of effort. As for the bottom piece as many others have suggested a bench/seat along the bottom of the windows. A dark colour with lighter trim or vice versa. Not quite black. More like dark forest
Hi man! Happy new year and Merry Christmas…I have the question my friend! You use siding of cement?…you installing it with nails? I have to install it in the house I'm building and I didn't know whether to do it with nails or screws! 😛 Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
Good call on the 2” siding pieces. Looks great!
These drone shots are getting gooder and more gooooooder.
That cabin is looking so good now. Windows, door, and siding look very nice. Can't wait to see the interior when you start.
Everyone loves a good smooth caulk job
😂🤣😅🤝
My tip for the front of the cabin under the Windows, you should build a large bench all the way.
Perfect location for the sun, hides the bottom of the cabin and gives you lots of seating space
Yep. With storage inside and waterproof top. A cabin needs as much storage as it can get.
I was coming here to say just this.
Agreed! With a small fire pit in front of the bench!
That's a good idea!
agree one hundred, great spot for the wife and kids to hangout.
Recently found your channel and man do I love this project. Your house is beautiful! 👏👏👏
I look forward to every episode. I like your sense of humor, vulnerability, and humility - plus your skill set with building.
Thank you Mike! Always appreciate you and your encouragement!

It’s looking real nice, those little pieces you put in between the windows really sets it off. Thank you.

I think you made the right choice with the siding between the windows. Looks great 👍❤️

Best choice on the siding between the trim!
Woodness Goodness, good choice of siding around the window! Merry Christmas and God bless you and your wonderful family!
Tycker du gör ett bra jobb. God jul till dig och familjen 🎉❤
Not sure if you hit it last week or this week but congrats on over 200k subscribers!
😂 love the voice over intro.
Looks great! Comin together nicely!
trim between the windows looks great!
Sooooo glad you chose to use the small cuts. The multiple horizontals really balance the strong verticals. Pleasing to the eye. Still am opting for a deep, dark muted green.
Look up the color Greenblack by sherwin Williams and let me know what you think!
The cabin is a thing of beauty.
Siding turned out nice!
I cant help but imagine built in bench over the gap between deck and front window wall. somewhere to eat, or drink morning coffee, or sunset wine, or read in the sunshine outside. could even do a table later and make it an outdoor dining area.
Dang tool belt! I know how you feel. I wear one sometimes and leave tools everywhere but in the belt also😂 great show man!
I love how quiet and peaceful it is out there!
Hell yeah Gram the cabin looks amazing !!!! Keep up the great work !!!!! Like the idea of the dark paint
Love where the cabin is going 😍 definitely dark/black cabin and timber accents ✌🏼I wanna come live there now the 🍄 are gone 🤩
Awesome job
Just a man and his Milwaukees. Looking good. Intro is still the best. 🙏
Those huge new windows look amazing, you really wang jangled that caulk job!
Looks good, Graham. A job well done. Hope you had a fab Christmas.
Great job Graham!❤
You could use glazing compound for nails. Stays flexible, won't pop out. Or just Big Stretch.
Looking great, G! ❤❤❤
One thing that might make the skinny siding area easier, is to run a bead of Lexel along the window edges then lay and tack the siding.
WOW it's really coming together. Great choice doing the skinny siding pieces up in those crevices. Cannot wait to see paint on this thing!
Great to see you're doing things as the Winter approaches. Hope you can get all the siding on before the heavy stuff comes in. Maybe have a friend help for a day or two to finish the siding and then kick out the interior sealing of windows to strengthen the big ones.

Shasco should hook ya up with a lil caulk sponsorship. Love big stretch!
Well done brother. It's really looking good. Like the choice of siding.
An idea for that gap between the windows and deck: A long bench seat? A row of box planters? Alternating bench seats and box planters! Maybe just a storage box to organize all your yo-yos...
Been here since the off grid trailer. Love your content. Keep it up man! Cabin is shaping up great!!
The thin trim between windows also helps in the repelling of water.
Looks wonderful!
Looks good Graham! Good choice about the short pieces between the windows! Love the look! Get after it bro!💪👊
Looks really good ❣️❣️
Love your videos❣️
It looks amazing! Happy holidays 🎉 ❤ I really enjoy your content and banter. That solar array setup is so cool. All the best to you and yours.
Dark cabin would be awesome.👍
As you were masking for the calk, I could see into the cabin…the sun was shining on the warm wood of the door. ✨

Please no orange…such a jarring color.
Happy New Year Fantastic year, totally enjoyed…
Looking Good.

Blessings to you as well!
Good call putting the lap siding between the windows. Looks good. So. Many. Mushrooms.

At what point in the video did he nail just a single centre nail with none in the corners?
I agree, it breaks up the lines. Looks great man! Oh! I want to make you lazy like I am. Next time, cut a 6 1/4 boars so you don't need the tape measure every board, lol looks beautiful man! Happy New Year!
Happy New Year to you too!
Well done my friend the cabins looking amazing I would go dark as well merry Christmas 🎅🏼
Looking good. Can’t wait for paint 🌲 🏠 🌲 ✌🏻

I liked this video three times.
Thank you for cutting the 7 million 2 inch strips... I was preparing a rage typing ses.
I'm glad you didn't rage! 😂
Sweet work bud!
The intro!
My suggestion for the 2" pieces... Predrill them in the center so the nail doesn't split the hardy planks. I was a bit premature in my comment about the caulking I see...
Another tip for caulking... Have a small 1gallon bucket with warm water and a yellow sponge block. Use the sponge to wipe away the excess caulk. This will save you a ton on the price of blue tape. And the time.
Might get you a couple big ladders, ladder jacks and a walk plank for those high sides.
Great progress. Could you maybe build a built-in bench across the front? To come out and have your morning coffee, tea or AG-1? It would be hide the the underside of the cabin, you could store cushions and such (window cleaning tools) underneath and create a surface to stand on to help you wash all of those front windows. A.thing.of.beauty.!
You should do wood bench storage seating in front of the windows so it covers that gap.
Merry, at some point, Christmas, my man.
Oh yea buddy I’m with you. Love the lower deck!
I hope that you gave those mushrooms back to Duke and her babies. The cabin looks good.
Wow a TH-camr still putting in work over Christmas and not taking a whole month off like a lot of these other guys.
People shouldn’t take time off?
@ no
@@tiresmoke2867 cool story
Cabin looks amazing dude... Wood stove next... You could build your own hearth... Would look sweet..👍👍😎
I would take the trim off and recut the trim to fill the gaps. Or put a second layer of trim over all of it making single pieces between the windows.
A screened porch would be a necessity once skeeters appear next Summer
LET'S GOOOOOOO!
that's a whole lotta 'shrooms! at least you know you can forage on your property.
'DR.WOODNESS"🤣🤣🤣
Maybe double up your trim with 1 x 6 trim around the windows to overlap your siding gap
Putting the pieces between the window was worth the extra bit of effort. As for the bottom piece as many others have suggested a bench/seat along the bottom of the windows. A dark colour with lighter trim or vice versa. Not quite black. More like dark forest
Yeahhhh 💪💪
Put one strip around the window.itnwil be more solid. Won't even notice it after it's painted ......
Hope you get the fireplace in soon
Would you think of passing the solar cables through a pipe and bringing them into the house for more convenience and safety?
Is the cabin critter proof now with those windows in?
Paint doesn’t fill holes - use a sealant, spackle or even caulk and scrape flat on application 👌
Hi man! Happy new year and Merry Christmas…I have the question my friend! You use siding of cement?…you installing it with nails? I have to install it in the house I'm building and I didn't know whether to do it with nails or screws! 😛 Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱
12V LED puck lights in the soffits.
Dr Woodness, eh?
Noted. My deepest apologies for all the times I called you Mr Woodness
I think i would just make the trim between the windows wider to cover that 2"gap 🤔
Im really thinking it's a squirrel not a rat that brought all the mushrooms in to your cabin,,Time to critter proof for the winter!
How hot is it going to get there in the summer, or is this a fall and winter getaway? Dark roof dark siding, she gonna get hot quick!
I know you’re probably right. At the same time, the constant breeze is pretty amazing
@ forest green with black trim
