Best and most realistic lesson I’ve seen on using the staff.

Excellent piece on retaining the stick that the opponent has grabbed. Hope you can do this for the hanbo and jo staff too, in case there are differences. Thanks for the glimpse into "who is Matt?" via the story about sanding and painting with the stick. (The alternate version of "wax on, wax off"? LOL). I can relate - growing up with a contractor father, so summers spent swinging a framing hammer, shoveling and wheeling gravel (or concrete!) and carrying lumber. Sure beat the jobs my buddies had!

Haha. That’s great. I love that I grew up working. I always have a trade or two to fall back on and it made me value work and discipline. I’ll make a retention video for each weapon. Great advice Scott!

Hi Matt, is there a specific time that you stream live lessons? I was fortunate enough run across a few live sessions of yours but they were near the end. I’m glad I can still view them after the lesson but I do enjoy the live factor as you engage the audience and make it real for everyone. Kudos again Sensei.

Thank you John. I don’t have a set schedule yet. I just make them when I get a small block of time. The kids were at school meeting the teachers and so I had a block.

I love the pool cue move. It's really good for smashing toes when they're approaching. Then when he bends down to grab his foot, stick right upside the head. I'm only 5 ft 2 inches 115 lbs. So I love the reach it gives me.

I am 58 years old, I have never trained in martial arts, but I would like to learn how to use a weapon: long stick, cane, tonfa, Nunchucks, short stick, cane... You explain them all. What would be the ideal? The easiest to learn. . The idea is to be able to defend myself on any occasion that arises. Thanks a lot

NEVER NEVER start a fight with a gardener, he or she is likely an assassin. So too with janitors and old people with canes.
