The reaction you get from the "smelling salts" is the ammonia that is produced in the mixture. The hockey players on the bench typically use a small vial that has a tiny amount. You guys had small jar of it, so would have got a much larger amount of it. In these small amounts, it's harmless but it's still good to not get the source too close to your nose as ammonia gas is poisonous in higher concentrations and can be fatal (not by doing what you guys were doing). Old hockey rinks used ammonia in the cooling system (to make the ice rink) and sometimes they would develop a leak which can cause an evacuation of the surrounding area.
Hey, I work in the rinks, we still use ammonia in the cooling systems, however safety protocols and detectors have improved a lot. The recent catastrophe was due to a small town not updating or servicing their safety equipment. The ammonia gas mixed into the air vent at instantly fatal levels, they walked into a death trap. Be careful entering any mechanical rooms and if you catch even a HINT of ammonia: EVACUATE!

That was recorded on The Dumpster Fire podcast. I said they just needed to find a way to get a little bit stronger and form that identity and they would win it. I love watching people using smelling salts for the first time. It's always good for a laugh. You can get those smelling salts at sports stores like cleves also. My 11 year old loves them too after being around the junior A team I work with all the time.
In regards to the conversation around entry level deals. I'm from Australia, where in the Australian football league, the entry deal is two years and players leave after that all the time. Jesse is bang on about how you need top players to stay in their market for a bit to grow the game. If they leave after a couple of years, you get feeder teams and the whole league loses credibility.
I don't like single elimination. More games in the playoffs prevents goalies stealing a series (Bobrovsky is a very rare exception and even then the Panthers were good in front of him). And if prevents a poorly officiated game from deciding a round. But the regular season could use improvement. Introducing games that "matter" more in the regular season should be their way to go.
Re: the NBA in-season tournament - the National Lacrosse League did something like this amongst the Canadian teams for a few years. It never really caught on, but it was fun while it lasted.

For the record, a lot of people in soccer DO have a problem with the amount of games they play in a year, especially in England. Playing up to 50 games in a season takes a toll on the players, and a lot of them (coaches included) have been pretty vocal about being overworked

We have a similar thing here in Europe (chl). Where they play the best team in every league. And to be honest I could not care less. And my team have won multiple times (Frölunda). But I believe it's popular in other countries Sweden less so.

His AAV was 3.775 m - which is exactly what you called for, as well as a similar progressive rookie contract salary the NFL uses. Maybe Adam being a mouthpiece for Allan is getting a bit out of control... Can't wait for real hockey to start again for you guys to talk about.
The higher up you get drafted the bigger your performance bonuses usually are. Maybe the cap on them should be higher, like if you get the Conn Smythe on your rookie deal you get 5M or something
They should use that tournament thing instead of the all star game eliminate it entirely. Instead of lottery for draft position tournament for teams that didn't make the playoffs. Second tournament for teams that made playoffs cash bonus that doesn't count against the cap.
