    I am 26... watching these old movies and tv shows ignites memories I do not have because I didn't live during this era. But I can feel the essence almost as if I did.

      I've never read it put that way...and it's perfect. Absolutely. Forever I've had this sort of feeling when watching old movies, television shows or when hearing old songs that came out before I was born. It's almost a sensation of deja vu that I could never quite put into words, but you just did it for me.

    This was made about a year after Monroe died and it shows... fascinating. And Tuesday Weld, once again, proves what a talented actress she was.

    Kim Novak did a really good motion picture The Legend Of Lylah Clare based on this teleplay. ...This production starring Tuesday Weld is also very good.

      I like Kim Novak, of course in *Vertigo* , and also the remake of *Of human bondage* with Lawrence Harvey.

      I remember seeing the trailer for the movie. I was not aware Novak had the part. I would have guessed Carol Baker [who did play Harlow in 1965].

    “ in this business in five years you’re an old lady unless you’re a star, a big star”! How true, Joan Crawford was still playing younger parts from her 40’s on up.

    So glad you posted this hard-to-find episode. While she was great in feature films, TV really gave Tuesday a chance to shine. She really could pass for a 1930s movie star. Alfred Drake looks kind of devilish, was that intentional?

      I recall reading in an interview with Tuesday, that she remarked she actually preferred acting for television. Why? Exactly for the reason you said: she felt television gave her more opportunities to play a broader range of roles. I was pleasantly surprised to read that because most actors seem to look down on television as less prestigious than movies, yet here was a bona fide movie actress who actively sought out television roles. I think that speaks to how genuine a person she was. She was more interested in the role than fame or false prestige.

      @@5points185 She did television at the same time she was becoming established in movies, and then returned to television when she was in a later part of her career. She also played a Bonnie Parker type character in a TV play long before Bonnie and Clyde. She was Warren Beatty's first choice to play Bonnie Parker.

      Oh yeah. This one is WAY better. The remake was just too weird. This version gets into the characters more. The music in this version is better too-- jazzy and film noir-ish. The music in the remake was incredibly schmaltzy and cheesy.

    I don't recall if I saw the 1968 version and I haven't seen this yet, but it's ironic that Novak got the part, maybe because the plot seems to parallel Hitchcock's *Vertigo* somewhat

    • @5points185
      @5points185 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just finished reading up on the film version of this and actually, it seems Kim's part in Vertigo played no part in her getting the role. Originally, director Robert Aldrich had Jeanne Moreau in mind for the role of Lylah; I've also read that he considered Diana Dors for the part before casting Kim Novak. Aldrich also remarked on seeing this teleplay with Tuesday, which he felt Weld did "marvelously", and making a conscious decision to try to avoid doing a repeat of this.

    • @fredbloggs6080
      @fredbloggs6080 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@5points185 Considering that the film was a flop maybe the director should have not tried to avoid repeating this version. Hitchcock originally wanted Grace Kelly for Vertigo, but of course, she married Prince Rainier and left Hollywood. Robert Aldrich earlier directed the creepy Whatever Happened to Baby Jane starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford.

    That wig. She didn't need it - Tuesday had wild blonde hair. The plot was a little difficult to discern. Was he impotent? Homosexual? Well, anyway, anything with Tuesday in it.

    Half as long as the '68 film with Kim Novak, so I guess it's twice as good? Weld's wonderful, but it's not that interesting a story. Maybe if the "possession" angle was played up more.
