Neal has created the perfect mix of friendly conversation, interesting stories, humor, & therapy all in one podcast. Blocks is one of my favorite things on TH-cam.
THIS IS IT. This is the BEST Blocks episode. Honestly, I’ve been putting off watching this because the only thing I knew about Paul Scheer was how supremely annoying his character was on Happy Endings - but wow, this guy is the best and this is the best conversation you’ve ever had with a guest so far. Thank you both for sharing this
Damn I relate to Paul’s childhood. It’s like I’m listening to my childhood. I appreciate how far he’s come to be able to speak so clearly about events and the emotions involved. Thank you for this conversation
Anger doesn't seem like it comes up a lot as a block, so it was awesome to hear Paul share his experiences dealing with it. Great episode, thank you both.
jesus Paul, thanks for sharing. I resonate with that freak even more now. Anger is a tough one to deal with when you’re a young dude. Lots of hormones aren’t helping and lack of knowledge certainly doesn’t. When you start calming down and realize not everything is do or die, you can chill a little. Like everything, it just takes practice. Great episode
This is the epitome of “finding light in the darkness”. It’s empowering and stops us from living our life with the identity of a victim. The jokes and piss take thrown in amongst the seriousness is the best 🤩🤩 NAILING IT
I've loved Paul since Human Giant, and just got so teary eyed hearing his stories of childhood abuse. I had no clue and would've never known if not for Neals platform. Thank you both for sharing.
Great episode, Paul is able to articulate his personal evolution really well. Neal enhances the conversation by letting it bloom vs. going for the jokes, which would be so easy. A lot of people don't talk about their mental and emotional baggage because they don't want to be shamed or mocked... so to see adults hashing it out on this podcast every week is awesome and incredibly helpful. It's also helpful to hear that it's taken most of their adult lives to pull it together.
I forget where, it might have been Parks & Rec, but the first time I saw Paul Scheer I thought to myself "I like this guy." After seeing him get real on Blocks: I really do like this guy.
2:10 Fun overlap: There's a "Off Camera With Sam Jones" interview (a clip) on YT with Jason Mantzoukas titled "Improv is Funny, But it Doesn't Have to Be".
I always feel so guilty when I see Paul Scheer. I hated him for looking like a dude I know for like 20 years and then saw him in some podcasts and he seems cool.
13:24 Holy crap!! This is triggering me. When I got big enough and strong enough to fight back I found that I had a tiny bit of power. But when I learned how to knock someone unconscious it was like a SUPERPOWER. This was back in the early to mid 1980s- so there was no MMA on TV or anything like that. I had a friend who was into boxing and he taught all of my friends and me where and how to hit someone so that they either fall down or go to sleep.
As someone who's struggled with rage issues but is also painfully empathetic and calm 99.9% of the time, the Bruce Banner analogy is one I've used many times; it's like something happens and your brain shuts down, your vision narrows and your body just moves on its own. Afterward there's this mixture of shame, sadness, regret, but it's too late. I'd really thought I'd managed to get it under control but we had a baby back in July and holy shit nothing is capable of setting you off like a baby screaming in your face when you're tired and frustrated and don't know how to soothe it. I'm getting my control back slowly but steadily, but it's been really terrifying and sobering and makes me appreciate my parents even more. Thank you so much Paul for sharing your stories and feelings. 🫂
I think we can all agree this podcast should of just been two guys enjoying 'couple po' boys.. 2.5Apple Stars, what's that translate to, I guess it's just a thumbs up
eating on the job!?! HnY NB. Witness your friend's trauma with compassion, not so many jokes. Hold space for their sad Pain.."I'm sorry that happened to You."

Same here!
I will never get tired of listening to friends talk and make each other laugh.

This is one of the top five episodes. Yay on Paul Scheer for putting his shit out there. Fantastic.

53:18 thanks for sharing Paul, going thru some stuff and it's tough with trauma like this
A great term I learned recently was “healthy anger”. I’m still working on it 😂
The Field and Stream ditch move by Paul's mom was genious!!!
She deserves an 'Atta girl!" at the very least.
Epic move.
Supporting Neal
Yay! Missed ya, Neil!! ❤🎉
Great episode
I became a huge fan watching the League. Very cool to hear his back story.
Great episode, very relatable.
I forget where, it might have been Parks & Rec, but the first time I saw Paul Scheer I thought to myself "I like this guy." After seeing him get real on Blocks: I really do like this guy.
I envy this man so much. He's super talented and his wife.......
Paul rules. Love How Did This Get Made and Unspooled. The League was brilliant. Human Giant was spectacular.
Basically everything he does is great.
“Damn mom, wtf you stop the car for? Now I’m fighting over this gd gun.”
I absolutely love Paul cuz he’s one of the funniest people on the planet.
"I didn't want to have kids." Holy crap does that hit home. The thought of it scared me to death.
Holy fucking shit do I relate to this. I always loved Paul Scheer, and now I know why
I usually let the adds roll cus Neal has something funny to say, but this time I skipped right ahead to get back to the story
Hot Damn
Woah, I'm not sure I can do these dishes to this heavy first ten minutes. This might be a long drive kind of pod.
Paul Scheer’s a lovely bloke
LIKE LIKE LIKE YOU KNOW?? Paul talks so fast!
2:10 Fun overlap: There's a "Off Camera With Sam Jones" interview (a clip) on YT with Jason Mantzoukas titled "Improv is Funny, But it Doesn't Have to Be".

Don't waste your energy on the guilt, he didn't notice, just learn from it and carry on.

His stories on HDTGM are fucking insane.
Paul Scheer is one of those guys that just need to show his face and its already funny.
57:03 Benign 11 Joke
"Were you at a Freak-Off?" 😆
All in all it's just another brick in the Paul. 🔥\,,/,🍅,\,,/🔥

a womens ability to continuously pick the wrong man as mate over and over again is insanely wild
With my comedy routine for you, I thought the cops should have arrested you.
Scheer is basically Johnny Drama
Politicians really fucked up. Maybe they'll be held accountable now that rich people are suffering.
The "My mom convinced my stepdad that he'd won a hunting trip in Wyoming... but, I'm fuzzy about most of the details..." I don't know.
29:02 a hurricane they brought on themselves and you
Where were these teachers that say “he was provoked” when I was in fucking school????? This is pissing me off.
Please get Josh Johnson on the pod!!
Worried about Neal thinking a combo of raisins/grapenuts "could be fun".
Here for more whatever
I think we can all agree this podcast should of just been two guys enjoying 'couple po' boys.. 2.5Apple Stars, what's that translate to, I guess it's just a thumbs up

eating on the job!?! HnY NB. Witness your friend's trauma with compassion, not so many jokes. Hold space for their sad Pain.."I'm sorry that happened to You."

I like goji berries.
Paul is oddly attractive.
it wasn't until i saw a thing he was in where he wore a whig/hair piece where I was like "oh..i get it...i can see the potential."
Worth penalty box
Shame of losing self control
Folded hands prevailed
Why is it always Catholics?
👁️👁️ ⭕
All that child abuse and he chooses to be a Clippers fan??? Some fucked up self harm right there
