This is similar to Stephen King's writing advice to being willing "to kill your darlings." Sure, you get to CREATE the thing, but if you want people to CONSUME it, you gotta make some artistic sacrifices.
I worked for Dan as an editor for 7 months and even though it was tough and incredibly hard work and sometimes even painful- it elevated my editing and work ethic by a huge amount. Thanks Dan and well done to the team behind him. This podcast doesn't even come close to explaining how hard Dan and his team work on this stuff.
Just so you guys know, I often watch the first few minutes of your videos as soon as I see them on TH-cam, but watch the remaining part later when I have time. Don't mistake "not finishing" stats as lack of interest. In my case (and others, too, I imagine), it's an indication of the value of your content.
I learned about Dan during his time with Casey. His talent was obvious even then. It's so neat to see this amazing update and that he is working for such a noble cause. Having such a talented filmmaker will be such a huge benefit. Funny thing, this wasn't really a how-to video, yet it was a master class in story telling, purposeful filming, editing, music, and composition. Loved it.
I've followed Dan for years... he is an awesome human being (and a genius at making videos). This is probably my favorite episode of this podcast yet. 😀
I love how every time Hayden mentions Logan, the slapping clip is always always included in the b roll. It’s got to be his favorite piece of footage of all time 😂
Absolutely love Dan's work, his style of editing is one of my favorites on the olatform, and he's been a great addition to the beast philanthropy team !
its so much fun watching creatives talking about a shared interest!!! the looks back and fourth between the engage shows they're thinking "yes they get it"
Great to see Dan on the show. I think Casey and Jimmy are doing different types of things and one can learn a lot about different kinds of cinematic TH-cam. Can you get the Beta-Squad or NDL-Editor some time this year? I think they are also producing some really cinematic vibes ;)
One of the best channels on yt is BEAST PHILANTHROPY. I been watching this channel a while ago. After Dan join... What a breakdown/process. Love Dan, Thanks, the Editing Podcast. Thanks Dan Thanks Jimmy
What a character...the voice, the confidence. It is as if he has the next 12 moves figured out, yet he implies he doesn't. Follow up with him sometime, that would be great. tHanks for the video!
You guys are doing fantastic bringing on interesting guests, I absolutely love this!! 🎉 if no one has told you yet, I’ll tell you: GOOD JOB running this podcast.
Idea = try to focus more on interviewing video (both filming and editing) related people for advanced TH-camrs, also: thank you Dan and team Dan mace :)
Dan Is one of those people I definitely look up to as a filmmaker and as a creative in general. I would love to see a uncut or less cut version of the conversation. By the way I do miss the Brou show and Wish Dan could pop back from time to time more often. Not complaining just saying. I love the show love to see all you guys. I mean it's hard to want him to do anything different when he's doing something so important.
Where is that George dream video? I tried to find it on Hilliers channel Please send unlisted link to me if possible, I will cherish your work and note down information to improve my videos.
Im a Big fan of both Dan Mace & Casey Neistat. Learned from Dan from his Epic Filmmaking Course, So it is was very great to see him on this podcast, but now it is also the time to bring Casey Neistat on podcast with you guys hayden🎉🎉🎉
Wow, it looks like he's using FInal Cut to show the video they're talking about, but I imagine most of his motion graphics are done in After Effects. This doesn't make the workflow that efficient, and I know he's a Premiere Pro master too. I know Casey Neistat edits in FC.
I'm sure Dan's a great dude but he made himself look a bit like a prick when talking down on folks who edit to a pre-made song as opposed to having a bespoke song made for the video.. i mean i'm sure most of his career he did the former but now that he just started doing the latter he's elitist about it lmao just a funny observation
I respect and appreciate all the work that goes into Mr. Beast videos, but the dude and his videos really are the antithesis to art, it's all just "content." Everything is cut so fast with the algorithm and attention spans in mind, even if a story can be told, it's through a filter of appeasing an equation on the internet. There are fast movies, but these videos aren't cut like this because it best serves the story.
I really like Dan Mace and think he's incredibly creative, but the things he's describing for editorial, Audio post production, continuity, transitions, music scoring and sound design are all pretty traditional post production strategies, and techniques? He's not reinventing the wheel as much as he's bringing in 100 years of strategies for creating depth of field within the visual frame. I have been working as a Mixer and Sound designer for almost 45 years now and everything he's doing is pretty traditional? Original sound design and music is not a new idea. It's just that he is able to have the time and resource to be able to do it rather than going in finding pre-existing music or stock sounds from sound design libraries. Utilizing location sound to create a greater sense of Immersion is also pretty standard for post production. Within the context of TH-cam videos, he's doing it in good ways because he has a really dynamic visual palette to work with, at the same time what he's doing is creating a multi layered Sonic experience that helps to bring depth of field to the visual medium and tell the story by drawing in the viewer. I really like what he does, but there are also many things that he's not actually aware of that could be adding even more depth of experience to what he's doing. Again, no disrespect to Dan, just part of the nature I think of young content creators trying to explain how they are exploring tools and strategies and Post production and Production methodologies that have been in place for over 100 years.
I follow Mace from many years ago, and yes, he knows how to surprise with his cinematic, but most of his videos are boring… visit his old channel and you will see…
"how much of your creativity are you willing to abandon for more views"
wow! That hits hard.

Dan is BEFOK! Lekker BRU!
What you end up doing after you Dan?
@@redesignedlife777 Some tv commercial editing and DP'ing, currently also teaching a filmmaking course at a local academy for a few hours a week.

Very true haha
This is true!
I do that too! (But then feel bad about messing up their analytics)
I just did it. There’s something with keeping a video we deem good for a later time to savor.
Maybe adding to “Watch Later” might help?

I've followed Dan for years... he is an awesome human being (and a genius at making videos). This is probably my favorite episode of this podcast yet. 😀
Finally the day has come!!!! The editing gods in the same room! I was waiting for Dan to come on the podcast
Need More Such Interviews & Personalities in your Channel. MUCH APPRECIATED this One.

Dan Mace is an EDITING BEAST

MAN I love the edit breakdowns from these creators!!

I remember Dan from Casey. Never knew he works for Mr Beast.
One of the best channels on yt is BEAST PHILANTHROPY.
I been watching this channel a while ago. After Dan join...
What a breakdown/process.
Love Dan,
Thanks, the Editing Podcast.
Thanks Dan
Thanks Jimmy
Dan is the man.. SUPER UNDERRATED by main stream..
I honestly think this is one of the most interesting and valuable podcast out there, just saying thank you

Fantastic interview, thank you! :)
Such a cool person. Excited to watch when I have the time.

Yes its really the fact of having real professional grade help. This guy is a major advantage to have.
Dan is literally sOoooOOo good!
Thanks a lot Josh from South Carolina...
I missed how much time he had to make the video and if other people is involved, in color for example. Cheers for the good content!🎉
Dan Mace was the editor of Casey Neistat and MrBeast. That's enough to say that he is the best editor on TH-cam!
great content!
The first couple minutes was so confusing. I’d rather jump straight into the video.
I agree & I skipped the intro because of that.
Remember this dude from years ago when he was doing things with Casey lol
Where is that George dream video? I tried to find it on Hilliers channel
Please send unlisted link to me if possible, I will cherish your work and note down information to improve my videos.
Im a Big fan of both Dan Mace & Casey Neistat. Learned from Dan from his Epic Filmmaking Course, So it is was very great to see him on this podcast, but now it is also the time to bring Casey Neistat on podcast with you guys hayden🎉🎉🎉
My favourite filmmaker on TH-cam!
I've been following Dan since the day Casey brought him onto the channel
I love Dan, such a great man
Can someone tell the name of background music in first 30 secs of video........please
I’m here to bring this type of editing to my alligators catching videos that I’m working on…hayden wanna edit me nearly die each episode? 😅
Very engaging podcast
Dan is a legend
This podcast is honestly like asking unreleased Ai with all the right condensed answers and queues! Thanks guys
our brains are so fried that one jumps to thinking great, thoughtful information comes from ‘AI’ instead of ‘professionals’
bro thinks calling an interview answers "AI" is a compliment.. jesus christ

I can’t find the Jordan clay channel lol
Great move by Mr Beast
could you please break down casey neistat video “Sisyphus and the Impossible Dream” it is amazing and i want your take on it
You guys are my favourite upload
I love envato element...🤨
Brilliant breakdown and insights °¬)
I learnt a lot from this ❤❤❤
It's a shame the intros aren't what they used to be; they're going from banger to bland
8:02 I also hate that! And yet- I do it...all the time. Why is it that? Even though I hate seeing that happen I feel so pulled towards doing it.
Mr Beast would be nothing without this guy fr. If you dont have good editing, youre nowhere
Dans style is the key to mr. Beasts watchability...otherwise his stuff would be pretty boring
I'm just here to say Dan Mace is one of the GOATS!! I love his videos, especially 'How to edit like Dan Mace' 🐐
Damnnn Dan 🎉
aren’t both of yall working for mr beast?
nice one
Poor Josh from South Carolina
Mr beast seems to have a team that most cant afford? But! I hope this leads to new innovative ways to do it without the best of the best.
Amazing
HUUUUUge. i nead more 🎞 like this.
The pauls, treyhans, ect. Have to have the same team going. Hollywood shuts down & youtube blows up?
Dan sounds so South African!
Let's gooo
Is Dan Mace South African? I can hear a accent :)
Yes he is. Although he travels a lot, he's from Cape Town.
