"Baby‘s all dressed up with nowhere to go" This makes me shiver. Reminds me of last year when I was homeless all alone by myself working as a prostitute to afford my heroin/crack addiction. It was absolutely horrible. I'm in rehab right now. But this song- sigh, it gives me so many flashbacks.
This song is painfully beautiful, heartbreaking, and tragic, but it’s one of my favorites. I performed this at an open mic type thing at my school and the audience was silent for a few moments when I finished it before they began clapping. The lyrics really have that effect on people, like they were in a trance.
Thats an amazing song choice for an open mic. You should post the video if you have it. I love listening to all the different voices on the internet now besides only hearing from top selling artists in the past. Either way Lana is an amazing songwriter and storyteller

I’m in love with the laugh and her response after she says “So talk to me about why I’m your dream girl.” And the guy replies, “That’s going to be a short conversation.” She knows that she’s every man’s dream girl. But no one will ever deserve her.
This video gets a lot sadder when you realise that Lana edited this. Because when the line "lying to her self because her liquors top shelf" comes on, she plays a clip of just her singing on the stage trying to look happy.

I was at a lana concert first row and as she began singing Carmen ... I could swear to all that I saw my aunt Carmen in the crowd who passed away at a young age a couple of years ago !! She was there with me during the entire song and vanished by the end of the song ... Magical song
U Know its so weird because I think Lana seems to want to live in the 50's - 70's again and she uses these old music that probably captivates many old souls who have passed away
I really hope for your Aunt Carmen's sake that this is a lie, the whole thing is a sad story about a girl named Carmen who abuses drugs and achohol, working as a prostitute
For anybody who is interested in a bit of context from a literature student, I'll explain how Carmen is what 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame', 'Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego', Jessica Rabbit, and 'The Matrix' all have in common. 'Carmen', originally an 1845 novel, features a beautiful black-haired gypsy woman in a red dress - an outcast isolated from her own culture of outcasts, and a symbol of exoticness, eroticism, mysticism, mystery and, above all, freedom (both involuntary, and self-fulfilled). Freedom from social constraints (for her situation as an outcast), and freedom from romantic commitment. She is effectively voiceless to the reader, her dialogue communicated only through the male narrators, never through her directly, and her loveliness drives the male characters around her to action, then to conflict - eventually leading to her own death at the hands of a man who realises he can't have her. But the idea and ideal of Carmen persists - and, as a symbol and an archetype rather than a character, she even escapes her own death in transcending the novel itself. Now, Carmen - the archetype of a (usually) voiceless, exotic, isolated/outcast female figure of mystery, attractiveness and often mysticism, that seldom takes action or speaks for herself, at least as far as the story or narrative goes, but drives others to take action or speak for her - is a recognised literary trope that recurs again and again in art and entertainment, in every medium, right up until the present day. She is kept alive only by the artist, and has no persistent identity but that which the artist imposes on her. In 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit?', Jessica Rabbit herself even says "I'm not bad- I'm just drawn this way". 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' has a more proactive and freedom-positive incarnation of Carmen in Esmeralda (who actually herself must help another outcast break free of his bonds), whose attractiveness drives Frollo to burn down all of Paris if he can't have her, and the line 'the sun caught in her raven hair' fro Frollo's iconic song comes almost directly from the 1845 novel's description of Carmen. The connection to the red-clad Carmen Sandiego is obvious (indeed, she's seemingly impossible to catch, and the player must chase her all over the world), and The Woman in the Red Dress from 'The Matrix' is another great example- she 'doesn't talk much', and literally exists only to distract Neo and herald the introduction of conflict in the training simulation. Considering this song was released in an album with Lolita - another song named after a voiceless female literary character who unintentionally drives a man to desperate actions for love - I'm inclined to think Lana Del Rey knows her classic literature quite well.
Wasn't Carmen also an opera? Tchaikovsky said when he saw it, "This will be a big thing in the future." And it was and is. Most of the songs in that opera, you've heard before and probably had no idea they came from the same opera.
The Chunky Trucker Yes, and it seems likely that more people are probably familiar with Carmen as an opera - which is certainly not a bad thing, as the opera itself is masterful. The first performance of the opera came about thirty years after the publication of the novel which it adapted.
For people who didn't know this song is actually about lana herself, carmen=lana. "darling Darling doesn't have a problem, lying to herself cause her liqueurs top shelf" this line is telling how lana didn't think she had an addiction to drinking but she did. All the lines about the liquor are actually telling a story, Lana stated herself that when she was around 14 she got addicted to alcohol, all the kids at her school thought she was cool for it and liked her, plus she had the looks to convince them she was perfect: "the boys the girls they all like carmen" the addiction only got worse and lana's parents sent her away to boarding school to stop her addiction.
I’m lying in bed silently crying over this song because I really do relate to it. My whole life I’ve tried to be a happy person even if I’m in pain. So what most people see of me is this happy and nice person. And I’ve always just been a generally happy and nice person but I definitely have put many fake but convincing smiles on in my life. I love dressing up and making and giving gifts for people and making other people happy. I know that most of the people in my life probably wouldn’t believe how much I’ve faked it and hidden my heartbreak in my life. Another thing that I relate to is lying to myself. Telling myself that I’m fine and happy even when I’m not.
I'm listening to Born To Die songs for the first time in a long time. It's crazy how much Lana is still very much Lizzy Grant in this era, more than I remember. From the sound to the look to the video aesthetics. I miss her higher notes sometimes!!!

I get the distinct impression Lana had some kind of abuse from a family member in her past. Her songs are weaved with that thread time and again. My greatest hope for her is she can heal from whatever had been done.
You're definitely supposed to be creeped out. Too many people get it into their heads that it was somehow not intended to be a terrifying depiction of abuse

I’ve always admired and been so impressed by Lana’s ability to create a story in her music. She uses such gorgeous, poetic lyrics but there’s always a story at the heart of her songs. Tragic, beautiful, heartbreaking, haunting, regretful, gorgeous stories….I just love her music so much. Never heard another artist like her and I honestly don’t think I ever will. She’s so beautifully unique ❤️
this is one of the last songs my friend showed me before she commited suicide. i wish life was better or her. i miss her dearly but ive moved on and i know shes in a better place.
This song was the backdrop of my life between 15-22. Partying, heroin addiction, coke addiction, sugaring and SW and everything that comes along with that lifestyle…. Four and a half years clean now, but every once in a while I come back to this to let myself drift away to the past…
I think it's about her alter ego...the face she puts on for others...everyone loves Carmen...the fun one....but is Carmen really having fun. She always mentions putting a red dress on in some of her songs, almost like saying when the red dress comes out...she is who ever people want her to be.
Okay for all the people who are like "I WISH MY NAME WAS CARMEN" this song is about alcohol and drugs. Basically Carmen means Lana's teen years. She did have a bad alcohol and drug addition. "She's still shining like lighting" is saying Lana got through it all and still shining. "The boys, the girls they all like Carmen" is stating the fact that if alcohol was a person then everyone one would love her. "She gives them butterflies" is showing that beer and liquor make you throw up a lot, people also say that if they are nervous or sick they have butterflies in their stomach. "it's alarming honestly how charming" she is saying that even though she knew it was bad it could still be charming. "lying to herself because her liquors top shelf" she is lying to herself because she believed she had no problem and the second part my state that her liquor was high class and expensive. There ya go. No more "I WISH MY NAME WAS CARMEN!" ☺
Cameron Shaw but even if you don't see it as alcohol, who would want to be her? Are they listening the same song I am now? Who would want to live that life? Well, Lana is recognizable by romanticizing issues like addictions and other problems, but here is very clear... How the fck would want to be this Carmen?!!!!

i have a dear friend named carmen, we’re both seventeen and i truly feel her going down a bad road. it seems inevitable. every time i hear this song i can’t help but feel so anxious. like i’m just anticipating the worst. everyone wants to be her, they think her life is so amazing, she has the boyfriend everyone wants, she’s allowed to do whatever she wants, but she has so much darkness. without a doubt one of lana’s best and most underrated songs.
@@NinaDeCanela no she’s not a Christian it’s all bullshit because once a person opens books about satanism or any evil books and reads it often it’s a curse for that person, plus she uses Jim Jones and Charles Mansons theories to brainwash people about heaven the wrong way. If you want to know why it’s a curse it’s because satan is a vacuum sweeper that collects souls and Lana knows that she’s fucked up big time for doing that especially the born to die era. But poor Lana has to live with that curse for the rest of her life and her music is still a bit haunting so that explains that she is not Christian because if she was, Lana’s voice would not sound evil and feeling sorry for your self vibes. Even though her voice sounds different don’t be convinced what the stupid internet about her voice," saying that oh yeah she so happy and this and that yatatata”.
Maddi Linnaeus I also get the chills from that scene. I can't quite place my finger on what it is about it. It's a sort of...sad eeriness if that makes sense.
I remember in an interview I read somewhere that 'Carmen' is a very personal song for Lana. I strongly believe that the Carmen talked about in this song is her and this song talks about what she was up to before her fame or what she was doing to become famous.
***** I too think the song is about Lana and how she rose to fame. In some interviews, she also mentioned how she slept her way to "the top", and thus I wouldn't be surprised if the Cony Island queen she talks of is actually her. This is personally my favorite song (ever) because of the deep meaning and symbolism within the lyrics. I've never heard a song that's as emotionally compelling as Carmen. The song and the music combined literally give me the chills.
***** The song is probably about her, and I realized that when she said "Relying on the kindness of strangers" and in her Ride music video, she says "And my motto will be the same as ever: I believe in the kindness of strangers and when I'm at war with myself, I ride, I just ride.." So I don't really know.
+Bre Klein I've heard this song 2 years ago for the first time, and I listened to it almost every day for a couple of months. But I still can't stop listen to it if accidentally turn it on on my playlist. I mean, when I shuffle all the songs :)
lana's videos are so personal its like she is sharing with the world little bits of her life by showing us clips of her home videos from time to time in her videos ah! i just love them!
I remember when this song made me feel so powerful as a teenager... I wanted to be, and was, Carmen. It was in a moment of dysregulation that I shared this song with my father and he said what he heard was a sad girl crying out for help. It was the first time I heard it differently. It was around that time I started my mental health journey. I've never heard this song the same way, but I still love it and it still holds a special significance for me.
'Only seventeen but she walks the street so mean..🥀' Listening to this in the last minutes before turning 18. Thanks Lana, thank you for everything you gave me in my youth. Always going to see some kind of great melancholy in this line. 🌹
Já pararam pra pensar que a Lana inventou todo esse conceito que a gente ver hj no Tiktok de juntar vários vídeos aleatórios em um só em modo speed up? Rainha a frente do seu tempo
That word "seventeen" basically rhymes with every teen years, since all of them end with "teen". So just sing it like "only 18, only 19" and u have 2 more years to relate to. I'm turning 20 this august 13th. But gurl let me tell ya, nothing's gonna stop me from singing "only 20 but she walks the streets so mean".
Lana has written so many songs with adventure and sadness, but to me this song is one of the saddest she's ever written simply because of how much many relate to it.
This song always makes me want to create a second personality that is so Badass and Flirty but sad and mysterious. Sortve like bringing out my own inner "Carmen" I wish I was her. To clarify I'm not saying I wish I was the Carmen in the video I'm saying I wish I had a different personality like the one I want to create.. chill
I suggest becoming a writer, as a hobby. You can create and become your fantasies, and then return to reality whenever you want. That's what I do, when I'm in the mood to be the dark and mysterious antihero with secrets. :)
To me it sounds sad that someone would long to be what sounds like a lonely unattainable object of desire. It sounds like longing to be loved superficially but afraid of revealing their true self for fear of being rejected.
U know what is beautiful, that not matter what this song means in Lana's eyes, everyone see something different and important for themself in the lyrics. ❤️
♡●♡ Ah yes, I remember finding this song when I was at my true rock bottom. Addicted to dope, prostituting myself to be able to pay rent, eat and not withdraw , having panic attacks and seizures multiple times a day from the sheer amount of stress my mind and body was under. I was suicidal and in hindsight, my behavior was all a form of self harm. ○This song really spoke to all the pain I was feeling , even if some people couldn't see it at the surface. I hid my real emotions well under layers of misery. ○I got myself help from everything when I met someone and wanted to start a family. I cut off all my connects for work and drugs and moved after I went away to two dual diagnosis programs and met others like me. I finally adressed my ptsd and my traumas. I still am in therapy and I love it actually. I'm now about 3 years clean with a 1.5 year old and another on the way and I'm engaged. •••It's been a journey and a half, for sure.♡●♡
Thank you all for the nice words . It truly means a lot. ❤🙏 Still completely sober... and now... we have a newborn baby boy and my other child turned 2 ! I'm absolutely blessed 🙌. We are doing great and taking it all just a day at a time!👍 ❤I hope you all are doing well also!❤.
I relate a lot my mom forced me out the house right after I turned 18. I've never had a problem with drugs but my mom encouraged me to become an escort and get the fuck away from her. I stopped after a suicide attempt and went to live with family. I'm trying to get back into my degrees since I dropped out because of working to much. Now I'm stuck with the possibility of developing cervical cancer because of it. My uncle doesn't even know the whole story but still cut off my mom I wish I could do that. I get so sick thinking of what she made me do. I didn't even like sex that much. My current boyfriend knows and supports me. I did really well in high school and shouldn't have much of a problem getting a scholarship again (I had one but like I said my university life was fucked). Im only 20 and I've been raped by clients and the whole truna of having to do that because you're only parent won't support you.
Can we just address why you SHOULDN'T want to be Carmen. Carmen is another name for cocaine or heroin idk what one but it's one of them. In this Lana is talking about how she had a drug and alcohol addiction. "Her liquors top shelf" in that sentence Lana is talking about how the alcohol she drank was high class and expensive. Although Carmen is a nice name, you SHOULDN'T want to be named after drugs.
For all those who don't understand the song; it's about young girls who enter "hollywood" or "fame" itself too young, and too fast.So they fall in depression,or they start doing drugs(how does meth change our brains)and they drink alcohol, but everyone loves this girl, she has many fans, she is a beauty, but after all of that fame she is still a little girl who doesn't know anything about this world.
all of Lana’s music videos that are like these are so aesthetic and in “the time” now bc of at least for me I see a lot of clips from random vids put together in tiktok
I know right... Her music videos are out of this world, like a time frame in history that once existed but now seems long gone if not forgotten. It's like she's telling a story of many people who lived before us.

"She laughs like God, her mind is like a diamond Buy her tonight she is still shining, like lightning" On one hand Carmen has a mind like diamonds ( permanent) but her fame and youth is like lightning (ephemeral). Seems to be a symbol that the industry is exploiting the young starlet by consuming all her charm and talent in a short span (like lightning) rather than letting her shine like a diamond. And as Carmen feels powerless (probably from.the meth addiction) and knows that she will soon become a cautionary tale, her words urge the listener that they shouldn't want to be her, that the lightning will soon fade into darkness. But the song still goes on, pitching her as a best selling product - Carmen is on sale and everyone wants her.

This makes me shiver. Reminds me of last year when I was homeless all alone by myself working as a prostitute to afford my heroin/crack addiction. It was absolutely horrible. I'm in rehab right now. But this song- sigh, it gives me so many flashbacks.
I hope you recover fully and safely

proud of you, but i swear the youtube comments on some videos have the saddest backstories
This song is painfully beautiful, heartbreaking, and tragic, but it’s one of my favorites. I performed this at an open mic type thing at my school and the audience was silent for a few moments when I finished it before they began clapping. The lyrics really have that effect on people, like they were in a trance.

Lana Del Rey storytelling is ethereal.
Thats an amazing song choice for an open mic. You should post the video if you have it. I love listening to all the different voices on the internet now besides only hearing from top selling artists in the past. Either way Lana is an amazing songwriter and storyteller

This song is beautiful I would put this song on my funeral
Thats very beautiful :) THank you for sharing love :3
I really hope for your Aunt Carmen's sake that this is a lie, the whole thing is a sad story about a girl named Carmen who abuses drugs and achohol, working as a prostitute
Now what you think about Lana ? I think she change a lot:(
For anybody who is interested in a bit of context from a literature student, I'll explain how Carmen is what 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame', 'Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego', Jessica Rabbit, and 'The Matrix' all have in common.
I named my daughter carmen so this is interesting to read. thx.
Wasn't Carmen also an opera? Tchaikovsky said when he saw it, "This will be a big thing in the future." And it was and is. Most of the songs in that opera, you've heard before and probably had no idea they came from the same opera.
The Chunky Trucker
Yes, and it seems likely that more people are probably familiar with Carmen as an opera - which is certainly not a bad thing, as the opera itself is masterful. The first performance of the opera came about thirty years after the publication of the novel which it adapted.
Cuckoo Brilliantly put, mate ! Thanks !
An interesting theory, especially considering the dialogue starting from 3:10, now makes perfect sense!
She literally just recorded herself, added some clips from the internet and edited this whole thing by herself and made a literal masterpiece ❤

THIS IS ART Lana is so talented I feel like crying. So many messages, yet just one story.
Humbert used to call Lolita Carmen and the fact creeps me out as most Lolita related things do. I love the book just as much as I'm scared of it.
Sritama Sen why is « lolita » creepy?
@@palomahortensia umm bc the book's about a relationship between an adult and a kid. Like it's an important topic if treated for what it is and what it was meant to be seen as (disturbing and awful) but too many people take it wrong and find it somehow "romantic" or "sexy" which is creepy af.

There's also those of us named Carmen that also know another Carmen!!

Sometimes, our darkest personality is the one we wished to be.
I think it's about her alter ego...the face she puts on for others...everyone loves Carmen...the fun one....but is Carmen really having fun. She always mentions putting a red dress on in some of her songs, almost like saying when the red dress comes out...she is who ever people want her to be.
that actually makes so much sense ^^^^^

Disney. Have u considered that people were wanting to be named Carmen because of how much praise it gets....
Cameron Shaw but even if you don't see it as alcohol, who would want to be her? Are they listening the same song I am now? Who would want to live that life?
Well, Lana is recognizable by romanticizing issues like addictions and other problems, but here is very clear... How the fck would want to be this Carmen?!!!!

joe tho UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM......WHO ARE YOU TELL ME TO CHILL WITH MY CAPS LOCKED.
IT'S NOT A PHASE MOM
i have a dear friend named carmen, we’re both seventeen and i truly feel her going down a bad road. it seems inevitable. every time i hear this song i can’t help but feel so anxious. like i’m just anticipating the worst. everyone wants to be her, they think her life is so amazing, she has the boyfriend everyone wants, she’s allowed to do whatever she wants, but she has so much darkness. without a doubt one of lana’s best and most underrated songs.
just be with her if you feel she has darkness. talk to her and let her know you are there for her
And we should know that Lana worships the devil
@@markchayer325 isnt she literally christian or-
@@NinaDeCanela no she’s not a Christian it’s all bullshit because once a person opens books about satanism or any evil books and reads it often it’s a curse for that person, plus she uses Jim Jones and Charles Mansons theories to brainwash people about heaven the wrong way.
Can we get an update?? Hope you and your friend are doing well!!
As an ex escort drug/alcohol addict who listened to her to get me through recovery, I love this song.
For some reason, the horse running through the tall grass and the ending of the girl in white skipping and dancing. Made me get chills the most.
***** Elizabeth (Lana) was an alcoholic and did drugs. I think this song is about her before she got famous.
Obsessed. I can't stop listening to it.
+Bre Klein haha I also like very much
+Bre Klein Saame I think I've listened to this 15 times already.
+Bre Klein I've heard this song 2 years ago for the first time, and I listened to it almost every day for a couple of months. But I still can't stop listen to it if accidentally turn it on on my playlist. I mean, when I shuffle all the songs :)
Bre Klein something Kim K Will Say
John Morales lolololol ew such an insult
I remember listening to this song when i was like 13/14 and THINKING i related to this song, then i grew up, I'm 22 now and this song gives me chills.
Well I guess you just woke up and realized what the f*** it was all about
I think she's wonderful too but she's damaged goods she sold herself to the Diablo
Stills my favourite song after years
Same, born to die era will never get old
lana's videos are so personal its like she is sharing with the world little bits of her life by showing us clips of her home videos from time to time in her videos ah! i just love them!
*Her mind's like a 💎*
Jakub Czerwiński she doesn't
Jakub Czerwiński ur funny u pal
I remember when this song made me feel so powerful as a teenager... I wanted to be, and was, Carmen. It was in a moment of dysregulation that I shared this song with my father and he said what he heard was a sad girl crying out for help. It was the first time I heard it differently. It was around that time I started my mental health journey. I've never heard this song the same way, but I still love it and it still holds a special significance for me.
She’s the best singer I’ve ever seen in my whole life.
'Only seventeen but she walks the street so mean..🥀'
Listening to this in the last minutes before turning 18. Thanks Lana, thank you for everything you gave me in my youth. Always going to see some kind of great melancholy in this line. 🌹
happy birthday
Joy G thanks!
The ending with Erik Satie's Gymnopédie is pure genious
Tonzy beautiful
Thank you i was literally scrolling down to see if the name of the song was mentioned lol
same lol, thanks Tonzy
do u know who is the girl
omg it’s mee 🥰
Já pararam pra pensar que a Lana inventou todo esse conceito que a gente ver hj no Tiktok de juntar vários vídeos aleatórios em um só em modo speed up?
Rainha a frente do seu tempo
"Only 17 but she walks the streets so mean" In a month i won't relate to that line anymore 😭
"sometimes love is not enough and the road gets tough I don't know why"
Same 😭
Lol 8 months later but deadass my bday in April 😂
this aged well
Carmen and Effy (Skins) would be friends, lovers or enemies.
effy is literally carmen
Or Laura Palmer, or Rachel Amber.. or Ivy from Poison Ivy!
they were because carmen is kokain
They are, cause Carmen is cocaine.
YES
Lana has written so many songs with adventure and sadness, but to me this song is one of the saddest she's ever written simply because of how much many relate to it.
she and her music is the art
I can imagine her voice for the next James Bond movie to sing something spectacular as Adele did in the Skyfall.
Ya lo creo, también lo he imaginado
That's a good thought!
lol yeah sure... don't compare their voices plz
anjica123 He didn't compare their voices.
***** maybe,
This song always makes me want to create a second personality that is so Badass and Flirty but sad and mysterious.
TimesNewLogan well my writing probably isn't as great as yours , could you write me as carmen ? That'd be pretty sweet
Mare lena
Practice makes perfect, kiddo!
TimesNewLogan lol guess so
To me it sounds sad that someone would long to be what sounds like a lonely unattainable object of desire. It sounds like longing to be loved superficially but afraid of revealing their true self for fear of being rejected.
U know what is beautiful, that not matter what this song means in Lana's eyes, everyone see something different and important for themself in the lyrics. ❤️
“She says you don’t want to be like me, don’t want to see all the things I’ve seen” really made me sad because I knew what it meant
For the full expirence of the song - listen while you are drunk
*high
"... she gives them butterflies"
new song: happiness is a butterfly,
butterflies = happiness,
CARMEN GIVES THEM HAPPINESS omg I'm so sherlock😂
Happiness is a butterfly ended up on Norman Fucking Rockwell! one year later!
Bless you
Thank you all for the nice words . It truly means a lot. ❤🙏
Still completely sober... and now... we have a newborn baby boy and my other child turned 2
! I'm absolutely blessed 🙌. We are doing great and taking it all just a day at a time!👍
❤I hope you all are doing well also!❤.
Congrats Happy For You😘❤️💯 That's a blessing ❤️
Respect you are strong. Wow
At birth i was supposed to be named Carmen after my grandmother, I always felt as if the name resonates with me like this song.
@loli_V2222 Shut the hell up like actually
@loli_V2222 no ONE CARES
i care
Same just bc no one likes you
@@Iuvs I care

Conan Gray fans: I want to be heather.
Lana fans: I want to be Carmen.
Me: I want to be Lana.
@@aestheticroses4088 you just unnamed my future child :(
@@bedazzledbread537 sorry but it had to be said.
honestly, being carmen sounds like having a pretty bad life.. i don't want to be carmen at all.
Directioners: I want to be Olivia
For all those who don't understand the song; it's about young girls who enter "hollywood" or "fame" itself too young, and too fast.So they fall in depression,or they start doing drugs(how does meth change our brains)and they drink alcohol, but everyone loves this girl, she has many fans, she is a beauty, but after all of that fame she is still a little girl who doesn't know anything about this world.
Now that Little girl had became mother😭
all of Lana’s music videos that are like these are so aesthetic and in “the time” now bc of at least for me I see a lot of clips from random vids put together in tiktok
I know right... Her music videos are out of this world, like a time frame in history that once existed but now seems long gone if not forgotten. It's like she's telling a story of many people who lived before us.
I WOULD DIE TO RELIVE THIS ERA
CARMEN:
Darlin', darlin'
Doesn't have a problem
Lyin' to herself 'cause her liquour's
Top shelf
It's alarming honestly how charming she can be
Fooling everyone, telling them she's having fun
She says, "You don't want to be like me
Don't want to see all the things I've seen"
I'm dyin', I'm dyin'
She says, "You don't want to get this way
Famous and dumb at an early age"
I'm lying, I'm lying
The boys, the girls, they all like Carmen
She gives them butterflies
bats her cartoon eyes
She laughs like God, her mind's like a diamond
Audiotune lies, she's still shinin'
Like lightning, white lightning
Carmen, Carmen
Staying up till morning
Only 17, but she walks the streets so mean
It's alarming truly how disarming you can be
Eatin' soft ice cream, Coney Island queen
She says, "You don't want to be like me
Lookin' for fun, gettin' high for free"
I'm dyin', I'm dyin'
She says, "You don't want to get this way
Street walking at night and a star by day
It's tirin', tirin'
The boys, the girls, they all like Carmen
She gives them butterflies
Bats her cartoon eyes
She laughs like God, her mind's like a diamond
Audiotune lies, she's still shinin'
Like lightning, white lightning
Baby's all dressed up with nowhere to go
That's the little story of the girl you know
Relying on the kindness of strangers
Tying cherry knots, smilling
Doing party favours
Put your red dress on, put your lipstick on
Sing your song, song, now the camera's on
And you're alive again
Mon amour, je sais que tu m'aimes aussi
Tu as besoin de moi
Tu as besoin de moi danus ta vie
Tu ne peux plus vivre sans moi
Et je mourrais sans toi
Je tuerais pour toi
The boys, the girls,
they all like Carmen
She gives them butterflies,
bats her cartoon eyes
She laughs like god, her mind's like a diamond
Audio tune lies,
she's still shining

"She laughs like God, her mind is like a diamond
Buy her tonight she is still shining, like lightning"
On one hand Carmen has a mind like diamonds ( permanent) but her fame and youth is like lightning (ephemeral).
Well said
my mother’s name is Carmen, and my father’s name is Salvatore 🤍 both songs are also at the top of my fave Lana’s songs
