This ended up being so stupid I actually couldn’t stop watching and laughing. Everything about it is so absurd, it’s funny. I do feel a bit bad for LA Knight; the guy is super talented, is great naturally on the mic, and has a classic pro wrestler look (there are times when his in ring mannerisms resemble The Rock circa late 90s).

Yea the guy has everything to succeed, that's why they wanted to change him. Can you imagine Kurt Hennig going to the WWE and they would have done something like this? At least they gave him a gimmick saying he was perfect at everything. They should have given Eli something like that.

They got a massive reaction for modern WWE and it was the biggest story on social media the next day. Don't sleep on this gimmick. That said, Pat was critical. Michael Cole did nothing to help this at all. I can see why it played better on TV than to the live crowd.

The best part about the gimmick is something nobody is talking about. He is a close talker, and it is hilarious. Whoever had the idea to make him a close talker is a genius. I cannot watch him talk without thinking of the Seinfeld close talker episode, where they made fun of close talkers. They clearly thought people would notice his close talking, but they didn't, so they had him do it even more every week, and still nobody has seemed to notice.

They're decent as a comedy sideshow, I don't see any of them getting their hands on a midcard belt let alone a world championship with those gimmicks. It's like Jim says, two dogs fuckin in the side of the road. People look at it mildly intrigued for two seconds and then move on.
I'm sure that Stone Cold and The Rock could've played great comedy characters, and would work just fine as the butt of every friday night joke because of how talented they were. But is this really the right way to use a guy who's this good in the ring and in promos? A guy who has the whole package?

I'm honestly kind of curious what's going to happen to WWE at this point when this whole group of current top talent is on their way out. I mean they are doing every single conceivably possible thing to ruin their upcoming talent as much as possible. Someone like LA Knight could be a huge star if you book him with some of your current top people, but instead you just bury him with a dumb gimmick. And they do the same with your up and coming young talent. Who the hell is going to replace your current top guys if you keep purposely burying your up and coming guys????? It's like Vince is going out of his way to just have the company buried along with him in his final years lmao.

It's a shame that WWE has practically destroyed Eli Drake / LA Knight's character and possibly his career. With all the talent this guy has as an old school style wrestler, who would want him after this ? Is it over for him ? It's a really good talent used the wrong way AGAIN by WWE.

What makes comedy for me in wrestling work is if they FULLY commit to it, and that goes for the announcers, so kudos to Pat. So far so good, how they follow this up with the next segments and in-ring stuff though remains to be seen.

I lost track of NWA Powerr, during the shutdown and then heard so many were gone and didn't go back, but wondered what happened to Eli Drake. I didn't think much of him when they started; but, he grew on me, after a while. Same with James Storm. If this is how he ended up, I don't want to know about Storm. I get you go where the money is; but, he had sounded like that was the last place he wanted to end up, when he was doing the podcast, for the NWA, when they first went into lockdown.

L.A. Knight: Amazing wrestler, managed to integrate bits of Eli Drake into the gimmick, fans loved him.
Max Dupri: Running a Project Runway modeling agency, fans don't follow it, can't even wrestle.
Whenever WWE calls up talent, they'll make sure they get their swift kick to the gut by changing their names and gimmicks into usually something degrading to who they were originally or to something that makes zero sense. This is a prime case.
