Long ago I used to go to my local glass shop and get a piece of mirror cut to the size of my tank between the plastic frame and just use a little packing tape to hold it in place.
Im a fan of this store ever since It was featured by aquarium coop
First fish as adults was from that first tank a yearish ago! (the golden white cloud minnows).
I’ve been visiting Ocean Aquarium for years for their great selection of West African cichlids in the Pelvicachromis genus. Justin is the best!

I reverse stole a wild baby tilapia there once.
This is truly a great shop, one of my all-time favorites. Justin and Ady are always fun to visit and when the shop isn't busy sit down and talk with. I miss visiting them almost monthly, might have to plan a trip and of course visit Tazawa Tanks too.
I always love seeing footage of this store! It's also cool to see "expert" fish keepers like you, Dean, Cory, etc. get excited while shopping there. I can see where it would be easy to get kind of blase when fish are your business, but everyone who visits this store gets all giddy and excited. Great video!

Definitely a cool store! I've been there several times and take my time just enjoying the tanks. Justin and Addi have many years in the business and eagerly share info.
BTW way I got my green kubotai rasboras there, hard to find in our area.

I can't believe that store is still there after all the gentrification in SF. I lived there from 97 until late 02 and found that Aladdin's cave completely by accident when skulking down that alleyway.
The big serious store then was Nippon on Geary. They are well gone at this stage. The large stores on Clement and in Chinatown had big stocks including lots of tankbusters but the state of the tanks wasn't not the best. At least back then.
Anyway great to see Ocean Aquarium warding off the capitalist onslaught. 😂

Hi , I absolutely love this shop and watching all the videos about it , I’m very curious - there’s mention of very deep substrate in the tanks but not a lot of talk about the actual substrate. Are they all gravel ? If so are small pebbles ok or does it have to be tiny..? Or are they sand and gravel or soil and gravel? I would love more information if possible?

Looks like they cleaned up that little back alley. About 15-20 years ago when I was in the Bay Area, it was full of trash and garbage. I was mostly into killes at that time, I used to go to the BAKA meets. Crazy old times.

it's so weird...i finally went to the store and had quite a different experience than others who have been there.

Man i hate to break it to you but i think all those Apisto Panduro are male. Those are actually full grown adults already. Female apistos in general are yellow and with the Panduro, females usually have this black patch running from the base of the pelvic fin to the pectoral area.
That's common practice in shops because when you throw in a female in a tank full of studs, all hell will break loose. Just like with Malawi cichlids. You noticed how calm they all were? Yeah they're not like that when there's a female.

I had a pair and the male killed the female
There are lots of videos around detailing about deep substrate and how to do it. Just search on youtube for „dirted deep substrate aquarium” and a whole list will pop up. Great video and great shop! We don't have those in Europe.
