Trent great passer but dreadful at marking especially at corners,just watch Liverpool games,ball watches and no determination to win challenges.i wish it was not so if he got better at that part of his game he could be a real top player
Unfortunately, the continuing praise doesn't encourage him to put any more effort in. You've seen the two-way player transformation in many greats and I would stop praising him and encourage him to become great!
You could say the same about pirlo, Scholes, Xavi, Alonso, Modric. None of them were great defensively. Trent is actually better than any of them at tackles and interceptions. But you would still build a team around them.

Scholes weren't technically good at tackling but he did it when he had to and didn't shirk challenges like Trent. Modric is super intelligent and certainly not worse at interceptions than Trent. Modric's movement is a class apart from Trent, who stands and looks for killer balls and that's it.. None of the players you mentioned lacked effort, bravery or work ethics.
