Hi John, Good to see you back in the surf. Hope you're keeping safe down there. Everything is still closed up here. Good luck, Mickey

I wanna try to catch fish with lures on the beach but I am not perfectly sure what to use. I try to use a 1oz lure with 10lbs braid on an 8ft pole. Do you think that sounds about right?

Hi Luke. Where are you fishing? If you are fishing the Florida East Coast, I have good news, Schools of bait are moving along our coastline now. Your setup is fine for most fish. Lures in the 1oz range are fine. A silver spoon will catch any fish along the coastline. If you hook a big shark, point your rod tip at the fish, wrap your line around a covered hand and break him off. If not, your line will get stripped off in seconds. Other lures: poppers, paddletails, jerk baits, and white bucktail jigs all work. Most hits will be in the first wave, just as you start to lift the lure out for another cast. So let linger for a few seconds in the out going wave. Don't set your drag too tightly, and enjoy the fight.
