This is the greatest game because USC was powerhouse at the time. Texas had the best player in college football Vince Young. 05 was a collision course of these two teams all year. No game had lived up to the hype like this game.
Hard to say vince was “the best” when Reggie just won the heisman. Vince was incredible that year, but Reggie was the best player in college football for a couple years at that point.
@@Ivypoison23 vince was robbed that year. The SDSU game is what got reggie over and his name.
@@heatman233223it’s wasn’t the 513 all purpose yards against Fresno state that year?
@@chrisgeorge84 you right, had my teams mixed up. I remember it being a mid level school for the time and sdsu was as mid as it got at the time
Texas had a team that stacked up to USC. Both of those teams were loaded with NFL starters and first round picks. Jamaal Charles was a true freshman.
I remember there was sooo much discussion about Bush not being in on the 4th down, and it was always kind of silly to me. Lendale White was gashing Texas all night, while Bush only had two plays of note during the game, one of which was a turnover.
THANK YOU! It's disrespectful to Lendale. He was the bull, Reggie was the speed. Tbh without lendale, Reggie doesn't get the Heisman.
You are correct, sir!
I truly believe the 4&1 run that fell short heavily influenced Pete Carroll's decision a decade later to pass instead of handing the ball to Marshawn Lynch on the goal line.
Vice Young and Matt were must see College Football Games
The look on eli's face when snoop broke out the death row chain was great. You can tell he was stoked.
right?
Greatest football game (pro or college) I’ve ever watched. Still to this day. Definitely deserves all the remembrance it gets.
I like that they became good friends after this.
"We're going to play football. Yippee!"
Vince was a damn beast
This game is only time I’ve ever cried when my team lost. I was a kid and seeing USC’s winning streak and all of the talk of them being the greatest team of all time just going up in smoke broke me. Still can’t believe Reggie tried that lateral.
Dude same exact feelings I have I don’t even wanna watch this video lol. The trauma.
Team was absolutely stacked on both sides of the ball.
I can close my eyes all these years later and hear the Texas radio announcer, Craig Way, calling it like it happened yesterday.
"Young from the shotgun, back to throw. Vince looks, under pressure, HE'L TUCK IT AND RUN! YOUNG TO THE FIVE! TOUCHDOWN TEXAS! TOUCHDOWN VINCE YOUNG! HE'S DONE IT AGAIN!"
Keith Jackson's last game, btw.
Last great competitive 1-2 championship game before Saban, BCS, and playoffs, now NIL changed the game for the worse.
RIP the Pac-12. Historic and significant conference gone to the wayside
Watched that 4th and 5 play, and it seems like yesterday. Good gravy, 18 y gone by? I am so, so old.
Might as well be talkin' about Sammy Baugh or Johnny Lujack.....
Will Ferrel with a Heisman in his ear is pure gold.
I remember this game like it was yesterday can’t believe it’s been so long ago. Lendale white had maybe the best game I’ve ever seen a RB play. Texas could not get him on the ground all game that 4th down stop was a true miracle
Great Interview!
The only championship game I ever watched as it happened to be on TV at the time.
Boy did I get a good one!
ESPN with smart to put this on this channel thank u
This video gave me some clarity after that traumatic loss by USC I watched as a 8 year old kid. Also Vince young was goated in Madden on the Titans
Vince Young!!!!! Love that cat.
Vince Young was such a great college QB
I lived in Pasadena and they would shut down the whole street, Colorado and all the businesses and put bleachers for people to sit. So fascinating.
'Bush mysteriously on the sideline"
Wasn't that Lendale White that ran the ball? Not exactly a downgrade, Bush was just more flashy and they fed him more. If anything the argument should be that putting White in and running it up the middle is too obvious. A formation with both White and Bush in it would make the defense unsure whether its a pass, run inside, or run outside.
One of the most random fact that I know of from this championship game is that the leading receiver for Texas was the Tight End, Dave Thomas.
Notre Dame 24, Alabama 23, 1973 Sugar Bowl
Vince young’s knee was DOWN when he lateraled the ball into the end zone. Turnover on downs, USC ball going the other way.
Vince could be a backup Today!
VY gave the PG version here, in reality he told them to "let their nuts hang" going out for the final drive
I do think this was the best college football game ever played
I concur
Longhoooooorns!!
Once it turned to Eli conducting an interview i tuned out ✌️
06' was Epic but Michigan wins' in OT is #1!!!!
I have been a Michigan fan since 1980 and I was at this year's Rose Bowl, one of the most satisfying if not the most satisfying game I have seen in my life. However, it was a crappy game. Michigan should have put it away in the first half if it did not have all those turnovers and then Bama had us in the end with us almost giving it away with the fumble on the punt. It was a poorly played game unfortunately ...from both sides. The greatest bowl game every played in my opinion was the 31-30 1983 Orange Bowl between Miami and Nebraska.
Im a Michigan fan but it’s number 2 to this game
Hook 'Em 🤘
First you dropped a pin can I have it?
UGA/Oklahoma was the greatest Rose Bowl in history... Imo
2013 National Championship was the greatest game ever.
I was the 69th like 👍
nice
05 USC at ND all day. USC vs Texas is great but not even the best game of its own season
LOL no.
@@darkknightsds Yup
My dad won 200 dollars from this game. Hook em
Sorry but no. The greatest game ever was Boise State Oklahoma in the fiesta bowl with the statue of Liberty and everything
Good game, but no.
Confidently incorrect.
@@TheOneTrueChris opinion
Not even close. The stakes, star power, and game itself are unrivaled.
@@avaught20 eh. It was good. But the Boise State game had the David vs Goliath feel. I remember watching both. The fiesta bowl had a 4th and 28 conversion, a game tying TD with 0 seconds left. 2 trick plays and the running back literally proposed to the cheerleader gf on the game winning touchdown play. And the hook and ladder play too. It had literally everything. Everything. The other game was good , but I think you forget what that fiesta bowl had
