i cant say i like the concept. The original godot comment was in response to someone talking about an engine being woke, which many people who covered the incident left out. The fact that it has been blown so out of proportion. honestly, the fact that at best and at worst, it doesn't really mean much. i feel like this project might not go much anywhere if they don't gain a proper identity of their own.
It's a game engine, those kind of projects are HUGE, so becoming different enough from Godot will take a considerable amount of time. Also, Redot's goals for now will be to listen to PRs that Godot forgot about or denied and to fix bugs that Godot didn't.
@@heavymetalmixer91 and yet, what do they represent. I hope its not the worst case scenario. because no matter what anyone says, this much is a fact that the coverage for godot was extremely poor. They did not do anything controversial with that woke comment itself. It is being made a much bigger deal out of than it actually was. Could their response have been better? sure. Does this incident get proper truthful coverage rather than painting one side as a villain? no. cause that attracts less attention. At this point, there is no difference between the two and the blue team has a much bigger, dedicated and experienced team supporting it. It goes without saying that it makes much more sense IMO to stick to it.
@@heavymetalmixer91 Good luck with that. Godot has a larger team and has addressed tens of thousands of pull requests. They've been pretty good at staying on top of major bugs and needed changes, and those which haven't been addressed either have a workaround or are being looked into. And this isn't how forks are meant to work - the point is you make your changes THEN commit. Repackaging the exact same files without changing anything but the icon is just silly, because it gives you zero incentive to switch engines. The only reason to switch is if you're of a particular political leaning, and honestly anything that was created out of a need to "stay out of politics" is, by definition of its existence, getting into politics. So there's no incentive there either.

Have never once had a game I've been working on affected by the political leanings of a game engine. If you can't say the same, you should focus more on developing and less on politics. The folks who got banned let themselves get baited even while seeing what was happening to others doing the same thing. And then acted shocked when they got their bans. Yes the CM handled things poorly and caused way more problems then necessary. Again, anyone that didn't want to get involved in the drama could have just kept their yaps shut and worked on their games. But nope. Just couldn't help themselves. Redot by definition is political because of its reasons for existing. Its all their community talks about and almost nobody is focusing on game dev there because of it. Doesn't help now that they showed their true colors and then lost the guys that did 95% of the work getting it going. While revenge forks almost never work, this one might have had potential. But those personalities were never going to get along, already the cracks are there and they're just not going to be a reasonable long term alternative.

This ain't it, blinded by reactionary political motivations is the only response I've heard as to why this is even a thing. The functional and focused game engine already exists, but hey now we can adjust editor-level horizon colors and shout based everytime we wait for it to load I guess..

Looking to start makin a psx style game. It's meant to be a to be a silent hill 1 style game, but more action oriented. Hoping there will be a stable release soon.
Do you plan on simulating that texture mapping bug that the ps1 engine has? Other 3D consoles of the time didn't have those jumpy textures and I find those kind of annoying, even though I know a lot of people have nostalgia and find that charming as a dev I can only see it as a bug XD
For sure, it will be released asap
@@rogercruz1547 The bug you speak of, seems to be exeedingly complicated to recreate in modern software. I intend, provisionally, to get as close to psx as I can feasably get. To be honest I haven't completly decided if I am going to go full psx complete with tank steering, or go Silent Hill 2 remake with boltgun or system shock remake graphics.
Will just stay with Godot. Tired of Twitter drama. Does it mean that I think the Godot community did the right thing blocking a few from GitHub, no I dont. However I see no real use for Redot as it to me feels like a political counter movement being even more political than the Godot community. Just hope the Godot stop banning GitHub users (what they do on discord I dont care about).
Thanks a lot for telling your opinion to us!
Why does it sound like a mix of Reddit and Godot
Hahaha it could be
i cant say i like the concept.
It was in context of the someone weirdly enough calling game engines woke which makes no sense. honestly, the fact that godot is forced to pay a lot of attention to their PR is because most people who covered it just forgot about the inciting incident which is pretty stupid.
@@aniran3612 However there were people who got blocked and banned for no reason from Godot and the danger of it happening again with the community manager and godots stance staying the same won't go away. So its perfectly understandable that people want a more safe alternative
@@Crystan I imagine its easier to remember the stuff that has not been fixed because its present. so the bugs that are fixed or features that have been added dont get easily mentioned.
Redot performance is about 30% lower on my system (GeForce 3080, Ryzen 5900X) so I'll stick with Godot 4.3 /4.4 dev for now.
Btw, Redot Sharp doesn't work at all :/
Are you kidding? How can it be slower, if it just got forked???
We're aware of the sharp issue. It's being worked on.
I hope they can fix it soon :)
I love how you pronounce "yesterday" :D
Hahaha in which minute did I pronounce it? I'm Argentinian
I don't think Redot will survive in the long term. I mean, Godot currently is supported by corporations like Microsoft, W4 games, and has 10 active full-time devs actually working on the engine... we'll see what happens
Microsoft and W4 don't actually lend any staff support, just monetary support. Literally just donations.
Definitely, so we will see how they cope with that. At least they have the support of a considerable portion of the community
@@BlastingXNP What are you even saying? Monetary support lets you hire staff, it's the same thing. Also W4 games is essentially a group of Godot devs, so to say they don't lend staff is idiotic.
There are many Firefox and Chromium forks.
They run well and are also maintained.
Why shouldn't this work with Redot?
If you are a programmer, you can join in.
@@terryriley6410 W4 Games themselves deny what you're saying. Their "about" page references that they are not developers for and don't directly develop Godot. They do state that they support Godot via donation.
The only thing idiotic is someone who goes after others without being bothered to read a few sentences. Today that person is you. But it doesn't have to be forever.
Can't wait to see where this project goes
Me too!
Have this Engine FBX/.ply support?
Mmm didn't try that, but until now is super similar to Godot
Thanks lot for sharing. But well, also note that some people do feel affected by politics being mixed up in the engine. And they don't believe that Redot is actually political; just the opposite
"wokot" 😭
Hahaha, what do you think?
eyes bleeding theme, don't use warm colors for ui
Yeah, I also don't like the color so much, it does make my eyes hurt, hopefully they will make it less bright
Haven’t had a chance to download it myself but I assume it’s just the default theme?
Godot’s default theme wasn’t great either, I was always trying out others.
@@ShaolinDave Yeah, Redot has the same theme as Godot, you can swap theme in the editor settings
you said reddot but its redot
I'm not a native English speaker, so sometimes it gets difficult! But well, will have that in mind :)
Yikes, this entire Redot fork project already looks like a pointless and bloated re-skin with Fortnite generation pandering/sensibilities. This thing gonna look like a TEMU car accessory with wires hanging everywhere in no time if this is any indication of how curation is handled - also good luck porting to consoles, stable support, or legacy plugins a year down the line when code base is fractured into oblivion, just make it make sense. This ain't it, blinded by reactionary political motivations is the only response I've heard as to why this is even a thing. The functional and focused game engine already exists, but hey now we can adjust editor-level horizon colors and shout based everytime we wait for it to load I guess..
where is the blinded, things was said not like so people made a freedom of choice, what are you a slave owner? people can make choices. Sometimes the people in charger of things way of thinking can lead to choices you might not want so you move on. Sometimes its good to just keep your mouth shut, a thing a lot of people forget how to do with the comment addiction.
If you have worked with Godot game engine to develop serious games, you will know why it is hard. Godot has been slow in development of critical features required for game development. Instead of focusing on developing features, working to make the editor work in every possible environment (may be toaster next) is like a joke they are playing on Game developers.
You are just woke talking. You are useless and pointless woke troll
@@ladyville3 You should try taking your own advice - a community is about opinions and making your voice heard. Your stance appears to be one of preferring to silence anyone who disagrees with your point of view, mine is based purwely on observation and your reaction just proves my point about the audience this panders to. But go ahead, keep making unhinged references to slave owners? what planet or bot did you spawn from?
The main point of the project is to put a bigger emphasis on community development that Godot has been straying away from in recent years. The people in charge of Redot have made it clear that the project does not exist for political reasons. I listened to their talk a week ago and they didn’t even mention the situation with the Godot twitter account within the first hour.
Круто =)
This seems pointless I doubt the development would really go anywhere without the main talent of the contributers of Godot. Anyone can fork and change some icons and the theme of the engine
It's a fork, it doesn't lack the talent going on in Godot. It can pull down the work Godot does and add its own. It bypasses the problem in Godot where PRs rot for lack of attention, without losing the work Godot is doing.
@@skogib4846 this is stupid
The amount of changes that would to be needed per-update pushed by godot is just insane
Unless redot doesn't add anything special at all they will need to keep their fork seperate for good
@@skogib4846 You don't understand the complexity of the engine. It will be increasingly hard to stay synced with mainline Godot with every additional PR they merge. This project is a scam that will make some people a bit of donation money for a while then most likely die out. Or it will stay forever just a rethemed Godot without any actual difference.
am very interested since it was a C++ project
Anti woke people are going to realize how difficult it is to develop and maintain a game engine. not going to be surprised if this dies or most of its new changes are just going to be pulled from godot 🤣
Most devs I know are anarchists and tend to avoid politics as they see political parties as a waste of time.
Just ask the linux community, how many are fans of Torvalds and how many are fans of Stallman, that is not right vs left but anarchists vs statists.
Well, it will be difficult for sure. But there has been a lot of support as well, so we will see
My thoughts exactly, you need at least some sort of funding for projects like these to survive.
to add to that, the idea of FOSS is very left-leaning, since the point is to not have a concept of ownership. Everyone contributes and everyone can borrow. It's not surprising that most FOSS projects are "woke".
@@okie9025 Free market doesn't care about patents and copyright... the left loves saying what people can't do.

godot already has that
In my opinion, as soon as you put politics in a non-political pond, I lose interest. Today we live in an era of people who are no older than 15.
So are you going to try out Redot?
@@lettacorporation if I had been 15 years old, that might have happened, but not today. Today I truly know that you're on my side. A tip: change the color because red doesn't represent the ideology of the party
