║RIMOI NATIONAL RESERVE & RIVER KERIO ║
What to do over a long weekend? One might ask.
We took part in the North Rift Circuit.
The trip was filled with scenic views. Adventure and adrenaline.
This was the first part of our trip: Rimoi National Reserve and The Kerio River.
Rimoi National Reserve is found in Elgeyo Marakwet County. Which is a 6 hr drive from Nairobi,via Kamandura - Mai Mahiu - Narok Road.
Elgeyo Marakwet is located in the former Rift Valley province.
The reserve covers an area of 66 kilometers squared. And is home to herds of elephants and other animals such as waterbucks, zebras and many others including birds.
The reserve is ideal for game viewing, camping, nature guided walks, bird watching.And those who fancy a hike can visit the Chepterit Hill,which is found in the reserve.
We camped alongside the Kerio river, which happens to be one of the longest rivers in Kenya.
The river rises on the north slopes of Amasya hills to the west of Lake Bogoria. It flows through the Kerio Valley between the Tugen hills and Elgeyo Escarpment. And empties its waters in lake Turkana.
The animals and scenic views will definitely leave us nostalgic.
This was a once in a lifetime experience and we would highly recommend it.
