such a fail from soundcore not to include the aux input in boom 2. not possible to connect it to my dj controller for outdoor micro parties. i did emailed them to give a notice how much they failed.
@@alanrossreviews Input ports are an avenue for failure for an IP67-rated device, and I'm guessing not much of their target market use AUX in anyway. The only time that I use AUX-IN on my BT speakers is when I'm doing speaker measurements. If they were targeting the micro-DJ market, they'd offer one of the low-latency wireless connection options, like SKAA. Soundboks already does this. It would be nice though if the USB port wasn't used only for charging, and the BT speaker would show up as an USB audio device when plugged into a PC ... :-).

Hey Alan, i would like to recommend that you make a review on the Sony xg500. Its litteraly a sony Boombox and a lot of people do say that they prefer that one over the JBL Boombox. Thanks!

When discounted, their small XB series has some merits to it, but that's it. JBL all the way. HK and Bang&Olufsen also mostly good, but different approach/targets.
Well done you re the man 😉👍.For me what is lacking from the market is a small hi end BT speaker that plays extremely flat but in low volume for the bedroom or while you read or whatever. The most are not flat and try to impress.I don t know how difficult it is to be made but I know it lacks
Hey Alan, another in-depth and funny review! Thanks for making my day, again 😀 It's a real shame that the new Xtreme 4 brings so little to the table, was hoping for more improvements. What's really disappointing to me is the lack of bass at higher volumes when comparing to other speakers like the Encore or the Stormbox Blast. That's really unfortunate, maybe they will come with a firmware update to change this, but given the history, probably unlikely. I really liked the HK Go Play series, especially the latest model, but I'm worried about the bottom firing woofer when using it outdoors. What would you recommend for mostly outdoor usage (with some mixed indoor usage)? Is it still the Stormbox Blast? I'm also considering the JBL Encore, but I have no usage for the mics (it's roughly the same price as the Stormbox Blast and the HK Go Play 3). I wish WiFi was more popular, we have either the JBL Charge 5 (decent, but mono) or the Boombox 3 (quite large and expensive). The rest are smart speakers, tailored to indoor usage (with a few exceptions).
Hi Alan, nice work like always. I have a question about soundboks 4. A little off topic 🥸 but do you or somebody of your followers know if the soundboks more has the same good bass as the soundboks 2? The sb3 has no nice bass. Ik hope somebody can help me with this. Thx in advance and have a nice weekend!!
Hi Alan, still wondering if you're gonna giva a try to the latest Motion boom, the one with 0.44 firmware, cause for me sounds different compared to the one with 0.43 (different models). I'll understand if you won't cause other things are coming! (i.e boom 2)
@@alanrossreviewsContact soundcore, tell them you want to upgrade your firmware from 00.43 to 00.44, they'll ask for your serial number, after that they'll purchase & push the upgrade to you, in my own case, it was less than 24 hrs One of the booms was purchased on 2022(00.43), the other one was purchased last year(2023)@00.44 firmware If you've got spare time, you might want to give it a try Cheers!
Take note. Xtreme 3 now sounds alot better than it's past test. Specially Middletown, Motion boom, Xtreme 3 video where the highs sounds quite sizzling, but now it sounds quite balance and the 6khz peak reduce alot thanks alan☺️
My Extreme 1 died after many years of service... got a Motion X600, got disappointed, returned ... and now watching this vid the 2nd time. Alan, between the Extreme 4 and the JBL Authentics 300, which one would you go for? Thanks
@@alanrossreviews first I got the Marshal Killburn… after some weeks it simply stopped working. Today I finally got the 300in replacement for the Marshal, wow amazing.. really happy now 😀
I have the extreme 4 NT version. I wonder if there's a difference between the. NT and GT versions. I live in the US. Alan, if you know the answer to this, please let me know.
The analysis was so good - the way you were checking the accuracy of those 5 bands, was great. You said it's a little bit better in terms of sound quality, but has decent feature and hardware improvements. Can the Xtreme 3 have the updated 5 band EQ support for now ..? How big is the battery in real-time real-life experience ..? Is it worth an upgrade from X3 for a bit better sound quality and bigger battery ..?
Its a good question about the 5 band eq, im guessing even if they could enable it for the x3 they won't because it would be one less reason to buy the x4. Battery life i no longer test due to too many variables but the battery is big, it should last way longer than the x3. Also seems nd and gg version are quite different for x4. For me x4 gg is a little better than x3 gg but i wouldn't update unless i could get a good price on the x3 👍
hk go play 3 is quite satisfactory to me, but it is a bit large and inconvenient to carry. really like the sound quality of the Denon 250, unfortunately they no longer improve this speaker model.
@@alanrossreviews thanks! Then I guess a better uppgrade is the HK go+ play 3? Sound quality wise i mean 😊 Then I can still use my x2 for outdoor, trips etc.
Thanks for the informative reviews. Please make a comparison from with old speakers like Bose Sounddock Portable with some of the new ones. I was searching long and ended buying the Sounddock Portable, compared to soundcore motion boom and motion 300 which do not have wired aux\3.5 connection … some opinions will be appreciated
Nice one Alan, it kinda gave me concerns after a long while i haven't seen any new pop up of new vids from you admist some interesting new releases floating around, now that JBL Xtreme 4 is cleared, i eagerly await your reviews of the now reigning Soundcore Boom 2 & ofcourse some comparisons too Your channel is the only one i await for technical detailed honest reviews so far as BT speakers are concerned I did a little experiment with my two motion booms & will like to share the outcome with you -One of my booms was on firmware 00.43 & another was on 00.44, both sound different using same EQ & even when connected via TWS, one sounds louder(00.44) than the other, i wanted to update the one of 00.43, but it keeps saying its up to date, i messaged soundcore about it, they asked for my serial No, i sent it & less than 24 hrs they notified me that the update has been pushed to my device, i opened soundcore app & there it was, when i clicked on 'more' for more details, it says 'optimised sound quality', after the upgrade, both are now on same 00.44 & sounds better to me I decided to take both outdoors for a little fun, i spaced them about 16 feet apart & sat about same 16 feet apart in middle of both of them & it might be my ears but it sounds as if there's a little surround of sound all around a little circumference all in between the speakers creating more pleasurable listening experience for me I don't have your professional ears, technical tools or experience but i think firmware 00.44 improved something on sound over 00.43, you might want to check it out if you have the time I await for more notification pop ups from Alanrossreviews, it gives me joy More power to you! Cheers!!
im slow with reviews because of time but also because i am honest and thus nobody really wants to send me early version speakers. soundcore only send those early speakers to shills.

Bom dia! Eu percebi que na minha Xtreme 4, o nível de bateria cai aos poucos mesmo com a caixa ligada na energia. Você notou se isso também acontece na sua? Eu percebi olhando no aplicativo.
So, im having a tough time trying to find the difference between the xtreme 4 and the soundcore boom 2. Now im seeing new things about both of them, some are good, some are bad. Techder audios said that he expected way more from the boom 2, it's very cheap and plasticy feeling, and has also bass rolloff at high volumes, and the xtreme 4 has it's own problems with the lower mids etc. No clue what to think. I wanted to order the boom 2, and now i cancled the order because i started thinking if it was a smart idea. The jbl seems promising, the soundcore is cheap but can be a watse of money if the jbl becomes better.
@@alanrossreviews waiting for that.. At this point i don't know where to turn, i can order the boom 2, from amazon only, and it costs 190 dollars sadly with the shipping and everything. So for me it's not 130$. So it gotta be great it im willing to pay 60$ more. The xtreme 4 will be available in my country for sure, and jbl prices in here can change drastically, like the boombox 3 i got for 320$...
@@alanrossreviews I got the boom and the boom plus as well. Looks good and very high quality. Still not sure if the sound matches the old gen boom. Haven't had time to play with the EQ.
@alanrossreviews it looks like a close battle on paper. Soundcore Boom 2 will have a 50w "racetrack" woofer and dual 15w silk tweeters totaling to 80w. While the jbl only has dual 20w woofers and dual 15w tweeters.
I've encountered 3 different variants of the Charge 5 in the US. The ND,NT, & TT. The ND & NT are made in China. The TT is made in Vietnam. The ND has the most dynamic volume & sound, with a thick & heavy low bass response. The ND isn't quite as loud, with a softer or warmer sounding bass. The TT has a nice, clean, clear sound, but the overall volume & bass response drops off drastically in comparison to the other 2 variants. This is why it's best to go in-store & purchase JBL speakers, so you can physically lift the box up & read the serial number. You never know what variant you're purchasing online.
@@luisdavidgarcia8155 Out of the 3 that I mentioned above, the ND. With the NT coming in second, & the TT lacks overall volume & bass response compared to the other 2. I'm sure that there are other variants out there, but these are the ones that I'm familiar with.
I was check in all speakers avaliable in hige tech shop & nothink on this size was play so great as JBL Xtreme 4 so I buy it one. I really enjoy this speaker. It's loud & clear in sound.
@@fito631 it would good if playtime boost won't actually make sound of partyboxes, sounded like xb60/xb90. If this is the case, then don't buy it wasting time.
It's actually cool if acts like an indoor deep bass mode and outdoor strong deep midbass booste mode. Not like xb60 or xb 90 that sounded muddy and the bass was completely upperbass boost at all
Great review I did make it to the end😂. What would be your pick for best party speaker that can handel some water? About the size of the jbl extreme 4.
Would it be an upgrade from my old Motion Boom Plus? (£129 currently) Did watch whole video, and yes I have got a Blast ( Cancelled my gym membership)😂
I do not understand why JBL is dropping the AUX port. I use my Charge 4 as a pc speaker with the 3.5mm cable. Bluetooth is a hard no because the latency is bonkers. Maybe someone that has used the Charge 5 wifi as a pc speaker can comment regarding latency?
Hopefully that battery never swells...! Maybe someone will come up with a 3d-printable handle that can snap on to the top of the speaker, using those loops for the strap. Out of all of them, I like the looks and form factor of the original JBL Extreme. 150 Hz dip due to diffraction or interference between the woofers? I'm not sure that's it - the 1/4 wavelength at 150 Hz is 57cm, or 22 inches. The distance between the two woofers is much less than that.
@@alanrossreviews It is interesting. Assuming that it's not a room mode, maybe some sort of phase issue? When you measured the woofer's response, did you place the mic close to one woofer, or dead center between the two of them? Maybe JBL is doing some f****ery with phase around 150 Hz for some reason.
Alan Ross back with the fantastic reviews! That price is insane!!!! I can see the appeal for soundcore etc for sure. Also I think it’s more ugly than the 3 but that’s subjective. I call the xtreme 4 the bee stung xtreme 3 😂
its the off many of the jbl lineup as it is the worst value and sits between the charge 5 and bb3 without any point. you cant hold it in one hand and it has nothing on the bass of the bb3.
@@alanrossreviews fully agree. I used to think I didn’t have any need for the Boombox but now its not the fact I don’t need it, it’s the fact it’s actually much better value. Currently they have a discount on the BB3 at curry’s and it’s actually cheaper than the Xtreme 4. CRAZY!

maxsound plus? Stockwell 2 with some knob tweaking is quite flat and is a low volume speaker.

Alan are you gonna review the wking x20? It just released i would like to know how it performs.
Not at the moment, i asked wking weeks ago but they didn't want to send. Other speakers i want to get to now.
Hey Alan, another in-depth and funny review! Thanks for making my day, again 😀
It's a real shame that the new Xtreme 4 brings so little to the table, was hoping for more improvements.
Maybe look at the motion boom plus or rave party 2 for outdoors
@@alanrossreviews thanks! Would you say that stormbox blast is not that well suited for outdoors? I will also probably wait for your boom 2 review.

@@michaelduncan123 im sure there is a difference but cant tell you what
The analysis was so good - the way you were checking the accuracy of those 5 bands, was great.
@@alanrossreviews Yeah, I agree with everything you said, you make sense to me ...
Xtreme 3 GG camouflage looks pretty cool, but Xtreme 4 no matter what kind of color is. Still looks stupid.
i guess no other option for the battery. imagine this on smaller speakers. 🤦♂️
hk go play 3 is quite satisfactory to me, but it is a bit large and inconvenient to carry. really like the sound quality of the Denon 250, unfortunately they no longer improve this speaker model.

Nice one Alan, it kinda gave me concerns after a long while i haven't seen any new pop up of new vids from you admist some interesting new releases floating around, now that JBL Xtreme 4 is cleared, i eagerly await your reviews of the now reigning Soundcore Boom 2 & ofcourse some comparisons too
Your channel is the only one i await for technical detailed honest reviews so far as BT speakers are concerned
I did a little experiment with my two motion booms & will like to share the outcome with you
-One of my booms was on firmware 00.43 & another was on 00.44, both sound different using same EQ & even when connected via TWS, one sounds louder(00.44) than the other, i wanted to update the one of 00.43, but it keeps saying its up to date, i messaged soundcore about it, they asked for my serial No, i sent it & less than 24 hrs they notified me that the update has been pushed to my device, i opened soundcore app & there it was, when i clicked on 'more' for more details, it says 'optimised sound quality', after the upgrade, both are now on same 00.44 & sounds better to me
I decided to take both outdoors for a little fun, i spaced them about 16 feet apart & sat about same 16 feet apart in middle of both of them & it might be my ears but it sounds as if there's a little surround of sound all around a little circumference all in between the speakers creating more pleasurable listening experience for me
I don't have your professional ears, technical tools or experience but i think firmware 00.44 improved something on sound over 00.43, you might want to check it out if you have the time
I await for more notification pop ups from Alanrossreviews, it gives me joy
More power to you!
Cheers!!
im slow with reviews because of time but also because i am honest and thus nobody really wants to send me early version speakers. soundcore only send those early speakers to shills.

Será que melhoraram o grave em relação a Extreme 3???
Yup i think there will be more reviews coming to answer these questions over next few weeks.

I would like to see the Xtreme 4 vs the Soundcore Boom 2 🤔
you think the single woofer can compete?
@alanrossreviews it looks like a close battle on paper. Soundcore Boom 2 will have a 50w "racetrack" woofer and dual 15w silk tweeters totaling to 80w. While the jbl only has dual 20w woofers and dual 15w tweeters.
Xtreme4 vs go play+ or go play+3?!!!
Go3
I've encountered 3 different variants of the Charge 5 in the US.
What's the best version?
Yup its crazy they do this with every speaker
@@luisdavidgarcia8155GG
@@luisdavidgarcia8155 Out of the 3 that I mentioned above, the ND. With the NT coming in second, & the TT lacks overall volume & bass response compared to the other 2. I'm sure that there are other variants out there, but these are the ones that I'm familiar with.
Actually NT is made in Vietnam. I have one. There’s a fourth one, the TL, and I believe it’s made in China.
I was check in all speakers avaliable in hige tech shop & nothink on this size was play so great as JBL Xtreme 4 so I buy it one. I really enjoy this speaker. It's loud & clear in sound.

@FORZANDE9910 this feature will be available in pb 120 and 320 as well.
I hope new pb models won't be a failure like the Xtreme 4!

Do you test JBL Partyboxes???

Hopefully that battery never swells...!
Maybe someone will come up with a 3d-printable handle that can snap on to the top of the speaker, using those loops for the strap.
Out of all of them, I like the looks and form factor of the original JBL Extreme.
150 Hz dip due to diffraction or interference between the woofers? I'm not sure that's it - the 1/4 wavelength at 150 Hz is 57cm, or 22 inches. The distance between the two woofers is much less than that.
But not there for near field and then there in far field? Id say room mode if others weren't noting same thing
CRAZY!
