This is not "Regular" selection for normal marine. It is the Basic Recon course which last 10 weeks. About 1/3 quits or medical dismissed and each course allows 5% to be dead.

I said "No, I don't". Then he said, " because you are Thai". I was surprised and asked him to elaborate. Then he said, "I'm a Vietnam veteran. I knew a lot of Thai officers over there. Don't forget. These guys LIVE in that jungle environment. They are born and raised in this heat. Its much easier for them than from you coming from Idaho. U.S. Marines are known to operate in any clime and place but there is a climatization factor involved. These guys are training in their own back yard. Sounds familiar? Ask any Vietnam veteran grunt. I don't think snake meat, blood is a total shocker for them.

@@tanarot5465 That should never be allowed to happen. Recruits should stay hydrated in the heat, have the medic/corpsman start an IV and take to a field hospital,if necessary. Thais and Filipinos make great special forces guys I think because they are tight knitted even by their culture. They do everything together. They don't seem to eject the weekest link but rather instruct him on how to succeed. They're will always be a weeker link. I've never seen that kind of bonding and cohesiveness buy our own troops. They share and bond like no other. And they fight. No problem trusting these guys in combat. Dig your product and insight here. You know what you're talking about. In the water, you have to relax and float, not freak out and fight it. Take A few buttons off, lift head up for air, hold breath, take boots off, get more air, hold breath, ECT...

These Thai Marines are tough as nails!
12:30 Swedish Coastal rangers do (did) not in that unit any longer, we did 4 days marching with exercise moments incl survival/ partially no food 100/ 110 lbs. 120 nautical miles in kayak max 48 hrs, 3,5 miles combat obstacle course with 45 lbs and weapon/ gear max 42 minutes. 5 miles quick march with 45 lbs/ weapon/ gear in less then 40 min to mention a few things to get the Trident and become Coastal Rangers. It takes 40 weeks to become a Coastal Ranger.
In the Legion we had in the 80's a pretty gruesome final tests to get the Képi Blanc, Red March that back then was about 70 km's ( 43 mi ), today it is 50 km's then the raid March that was 120 km's ( 75 miles ) in three days including different exercises. On top of that there was of course a lot of other things to pass the training to become a Legionnaire. In all the the basic training is 4 months but add 3-6 more weeks in pre selection. Then of course the training continues when you arrive at your regiment.
    Good times, I loved the 80's ;)

Siri I’m 54 years young, and 80s were my time also. It’s a lot different today, even in Boot Camp today compared to the 80s and decades before. Boot Camp was a lot tougher than it is today, everybody has to be so politically correct even an arm forces, drill sergeants have to watch what they say to people I’m sure they can’t kick your assLike they did in our time. It’s an absolute disgrace that they put restrictions on how you can discipline a recruit in Boot Camp. Their job is to make you become The best version of yourself. What happens when these new soldiers going to battle, do you think the other man or woman who shooting at you is going to be politically correct with the words that use . I really enjoyed Your story, God bless. PS sorry about the rant

      No problem Thomas.
I'm still in the military and since we don't retire until we're around 64-67 yrs old ( if you're born 1958 or earlier you can retire at 61 ) so I've seen how things has "evolved" and yes it was for sure different before. When I was on the military as a young recruit we heard from those older soldiers/ officers how "soft" it was for us...so I guess this is how the world works and always has.
I grew up with my grandparents so I got an older upbringing and I noticed a huge difference between me and my friends at same age I also remember my grandpa tell me stories about his time in the military during WW2 so in his eyes my generation was "spoiled" well not me since I learned the old values etc.
But as I said I think this is the way it always been and always will be, those older see it as they had it harder and well the millennial when they are old will say their kids or grand kids are spoiled and lazy etc.

If you are participating in waterborne exercises and jump into the water from and elevated platform, you cover your nose for 2 reasons. To prevent you from breaking your nose and to get you in the habit of holding on to your scuba mask. This is especially important for operators training in scuba or combat diving. Once you hit the water, your scuba mask can hit you in the face or come off completely or fill with water in which case you’d have to waste time clearing it.

I am from thailand, i know how hard it is for dedicated recruits to be a marine and make their families proud, but in all the hardwork during training recruits keep in touch (friendly) with the trainers as well, which i think is the support needed for recruits to continue, the trainers may force them but it is for the better of them. I may be only 17 but i do a military service every saturday where i go to a camp, and this year i've been in the mountains walking 14 kilometers up and 14 kilometers down at night while having low oxygen, the trainers does not seem harsh like in the video as shown.

We have a competition every year in Thailand. It s called "Ultimate Soldier" which compete to be the best of the best 5 squads spec ops team. 72 hrs with 7miles boat, jungle recon for 200kms. Continuous mission. Simlulate objective like a rescue hostage, ambush. Gollira warfare. The unit team who win it s the most honest of their career and also promotion rank for the winner. It s only an army and it s classified. I was there as an ultimate civilian photographer team who stick with all their team for whole competition. I saw it real tough.

You hold your nose to prevent water from blocking your airways and choking you. For a small jump you can control it with your breath and I would think that holding your nose would be useful and necessary for a high jump. Another point is whether you are going in feet first or head first, a fully packed Marine would dive in feet first so holding your nose will stop the high impact of water rushing in, but a high cliff diver don't hold their noses because they are going in head first.
