  • A scissor trap is all you need to get rid of moles effectively. You just need to know where to place it.

When I was a kid I’d dig out one of tunnels big enough to set a small chainsaw inside. I’d take the bar off and let the chainsaw idle sitting on a board. The moles would surface and I’d get them with 12ga birdshot(most of the time it was birdshot). It was a rural area but still had neighbors . Pretty soon neighbors were inviting us over for more afternoon BBQs and wanting me to come over early with the chainsaw. It was around that time that I learned about the mule in three and a half inch magnum shells. I had good coaching but I was still under a hundred pounds at the time. 🤪

The travel pattern always creeps me out! Looks like a yard scab. I'm definitely buying these.

I bought one years ago and love it. Man, I bet I killed half a dozen in less than a week at the start of summer/end of spring. They get bad here especially after a rain. Highly recommend.
Heck, I usually get a kill in 3 hours or less too. Much better than plunger traps, or those small, teeny tiny spring traps. Do yourself a solid if these moles are tearing up your yard and get one.
They are durable as all get out. Just make sure to remove them before mowing... You do not want to run over them.

I have no problem permanently getting rid of moles. Years ago, I had a beautiful garden. Day lilies, oriental lilies, snap dragons, hibiscus. When all the plants finally matured, it was spectacular! The following year, there were a third less blooms. Couldn’t figure out why. The next year virtually no blooms, no stems, leaves, nothing. We started digging out the area and that’s when we saw the tunnels. It took forever to get rid of those little devils. It really dampened my desire to plant flowers again. However, I discovered that if you plant jonquils or daffodils around and through your garden area, the moles will either die from nibbling the bulbs or leave the area to avoid the bulbs. Whatever, it works.

Moles don't eat vegetation. They only eat bugs, grubs etc. If you had ( have) something eating you garden roots those are voles and are entirely different to get rid of. Good luck with those!

Moles/voles, whatever, I only know those critters took out all my perennial plants. And they were almost impossible to get rid of.

Thank you for this video. When I bought my house (its my first) i worked extremely hard for years to make a nice lawn from a dirt / weed pit. Now moles are destroying it. Today I come home from work and there is more damage in one day than I've seen before. I was about to take the 12 gauge out and just start shooting the ground. All the other videos I watched look like bullshit. Yours looks like it works.

I bought one of these my first summer at our new house in the Ozarks when I noticed some tunneling around my newly transplanted multi-graft apple tree. I haven’t had very good luck with it because of the rocky soil here.

We have something much more efficient - we call them Ohana and Nina. Nina taught Ohana how to hunt and they are simply a marvel to watch in action. The girls get on either side of the mole/vole tunnel and aeration begins, takes about 1 -2 ft of tunnel excavation and the culprit reaches its demise in very quick fashion. And there’s no bloody messy trap to clean, just some soil raked back and reseeding. Ours came from the county pound and although much, much pricer than a scissor trap, we think they’re worth the cost. Except of course when they impale themselves with some branch in the woods.😂. Nina can also skin a rabbit cleaner than most humans. One word of caution y’all…if you toss the carcass of remains, except some dang nasty critters to come scavenging…coyotes, skunks, rats they all like to feast.

I just had one little dog ( Lhasa Apso and Yorkie mix) that had the patience of a saint. She lay by mole hills and wait forever till the mole came up the mound and she pounce yanking the mole right up out of the dirt mound. She catch them all the time. She even go outside at night thru the doggy door and catch them. Instead of killing it though, she bring it in the house to my bedroom and let it go on the floor showing me what she caught. Mole trying it’s hardest to dig thru the carpet! 😂
Luckily I could tell my little dog MOLLY good dog now take it outside and kill it. She leave it by the front door in the morning for me to dispose of the dead body! 😂
Unfortunately she passed away a few years ago now at 13 years old. Moles are safe now unfortunately. Still trying to get rid of them. But when none of your neighbors do anything to get rid of them either. It’s only time till the moles end up in your yard again!
Think I’m going to have to spend a fortune digging a ditch around my property and burying hardware cloth in a L shape and fill the ditch back in.! So when the mole tries coming into my yard they hit the hardware cloth and digging down they hit the hardware cloth again and have to turn back to the neighbors yard! 😂

Get another dog may be a less expensive alternative. I hate when my four legged friends get to go before us. The Lab that saved my life was 14 ½ when we had to put her down. She lived long enough to save my life and see me come home from my month stay in ICU. She was great at keeping rabbits and groundhogs out, never had moles at that house so I guess the word got around to avoid her😂

Check out the tomcat scissor type trap. It has a much better trigger and is far more successful than the design shown here. Definitely doesn't hurt that its cheap as well!

Does the metal plate in the middle need to be flat with the ground to set the trap off?? Thanks

I have the really old style scissors traps that I only have limited success with. More failure than success unfortunately! I like to try these traps in the video!

Moles are territorial so you're basically fighting off the vacuum-effect. Meaning you'd need to remove just over 3 adults per acre & all the small batches of offspring who have yet to fight for your tasty habitat.

only gotcha is to make sure you remember where you put it and don't let your grass get tall. Or put a little flag beside it. I destroyed a blade and a trap.

@@GoodWorksTractors not all dogs dig holes to get the mole, my little dog sat next to the mole hill and waited till the mole came up the dirt mound and she knew right when to pounce and pull the mole right out of the dirt. She also was a great field mouse catcher. When I mow my field she follow in front of the mower just waiting for a mouse to run out and she nab them quicker than grease lightening! She was a great hunter!

Moles mean you have grubs. You could ha e some good worms there too. But that is what they are going after.
