Most English who have ancestors from way back have Anglo Saxon ancestry. For example my surname is Anglo Saxon.

The french did come over in 1066. The leader William became king of England after killing king Harold and then was named William the conqueror. It’s he who build the Tower of London

There is a show called "The Last Kingdom" (on Netflix) based around Alfred the Great in Wessex and the Vikings (870AD onwards). Well worth a watch, if not historically accurate :)

York was one of the major centres for trade and was one of the largest towns in England. Under Viking rule, the city became a major river port and part of the extensive Viking trading routes throughout Northern Europe. The last ruler of Jórvík was Eric Bloodaxe, who was driven from the city inn 954 AD by King Eadred

Modern day names of regions, counties, cities .etc. show the movements and territories of the different cultures and languages throughout the history of The British Isle.
Other videos like “How did the English counties get their names?” by Name Explain, and “Why are British place names so hard to pronounce?” by Jay Foreman are great videos for explanations into the history of Britain and its’ etymology.

Aethelflead & Edward aka Edward the Elder were 2 of Alfred aka Alfred the Great's children. Aethelflead married Aethelred of Mercia & after his death in 911, Aethelflead became Queen of Mercia & Edward was King of Wessex after his father died in 899. Alfwynn was Queen for a short while like 6 - 18 months after Aethelflead died in 918 until Edward took the throne because Aelfwynn was deposed. The show The Last Kingdom is based on Alfred & his family though only 2 of his children appear in it & it is the most historically accurate then the sequel movie Seven Kings Must Die is historically based on how England was formed. The narrarator is mispronouncing the old name for Scotland which is Alba not Alaba. There is also 2 other historical show called Vikings & Vikings: Valhalla, but The Last Kingdom is the most historically accurate.

I know this is two months old, but…. This video misses out ALOT of key information!
Oversimplified is the BEST one on this platform! (Oh and it’s created by a Brit)
