If you're a fan of such games don't let the haters keep you from this. DD2 is obviously not finished yet. I'll wait, but at least I'll have fun doing it now!
This game really does looks like it was a late launched on PS3 or early ps4. That’s quite frankly embarrassing for a PS5 current gen title. That studio needs to have a word with themselves. Apart from that it looks at least worth a play.

This review made me subscribe (after listening to the 14 tips video first). It was refreshing to hear someone actually be excited about this game. I'm only about 4 hours in, and have spent most of my time just dicking about and fighting random bandits, but I've been having a lot of fun. I can acknowledge the shortcomings, but it's not enough to turn me away, and although there are some positive reviews, the ones that are negative surprise me when I see what other games they had endorsed in the past (strangely I've noticed fans of Assassin's Creed turn their noses up at this........oh, the irony). It does take a few hours to get into the swing of things, and those first few hours aren't even a chore, but there is a lot to explore in this and the combat can be very satisfying.
Well, i think this game it’s quite overwhelming but once it grows on you it’s a fun game. Although i love Ghost of Tsushima for its awesome story and graphics but can become a bit boring over time while Ronin has more to explore… I wish sucker punch and team ninja would come together to make the biggest best samurai game ever made… the Gta of samurai games 😅
Guys I was part of the hate train and let me tell you I was completely wrong. This game is really fun and graphically its better than any Team Ninja game.
I am in love with the game ! And even the horse riding doesn't look wierd after a while 😂😂😂 The only problem I have ia performance issue which I never expected from teamNinja and continous object pop in. They might patch this because there are constant frame drops. One tip, instead fo holding l1, just forget that button and focus on triangle. If you are focusing on both, there is high chance you will mess up and every once in a while you will hit l1 instead of triangle and die ! Speaking from experience 😁
@@2genders-tk2ue Blocking is easy but in this game you have a seperate button for block and parry (counterattack). I definitely got confused multiple times as I am used to parrying with L1 in almost every game.
I agree with you. I started out blocking mostly in this game and kept gettin destroyed cuz guarding uses stamina when you get hit. When i began waiting for the hit and parrying i began to master it and destroy the competition. So much so that i raised my difficulty to the hardest one. Definitely gunna play again once i unlock the REAL hardest difficulty after beting the game🔥
My only gripe with what I see of this game is the Team Ninja gameplay formula. I've just never been fond of how their games play and up until now I've given most of their last few games a shot. I want to like them but I don't, which is shame because thematically I think I'd enjoy these games.
I like that though @16:30. Both this and DD2 let you fill in a lot with your own imagination and attention to detail. Instead of spoon feeding every aspect to you like most games. It allows for the player to actually think for themselves.
Id give this game a 9 out of 10 in fact so far I'm enjoying it more so than dragon dogma2, I pre-ordered both fo those by the way. Rise of the ronin has great combat mechanics like being able to dodge and roll and counter using counter spark and come in with a critical kill like the traditional souls games. The public order fights are unique to the game, abilities and stances based on weapons is cool, I think this game so far even though just 11 hours in, it's got potential to be a game of year contender, the graphics are quite a bit disappointing and the textures look straight from a PS3 game.
The “micro transactions” are a joke nobody who’s played for 3 hours would even consider buying. They’re a dingdong trap. Totally unnecessary and they take nothing away from the brilliant masterpiece that dd2 is.
I think everyone is too soft on new games these days. These people didn’t start making games yesterday and still in 2024 we’re doing fetch quests stroking cats and even then we get poor graphics to go with it. Fun enough but game developers need to do better
The game is fucking awesome imo, it does what it’s supposed to 100% and I feel for every character I come across (except some of the quest givers that are more side feeling and npc like characters that you don’t meet again), the characters are awesome and have their flaws, I love to hate some of them, and I also love the characters I agree with, I’m doing the anti shogun route first, can’t wait to use that cool system to go back through the game, no ng plus needed!
I was so glad to hear, and now know, this was something new and not just Dark Souls ( again) with a Samurai reskin. As a total mark for the era of Bakamatsu, over the top swordplay, anime powered Samurai and the F*CKING SHINSENGUMI , this is already a top contendor for my game of the year
If you’re implying Nioh was just a “dark souls samurai reskin” you’re way off. It had one of the best combat state we made and put dark souls to shame in that dept
Idk maybe I gotta put more time in but the combat just isn’t doing it for me. Hopefully it gets better, as it stands I by far prefer ghosts of Tsushima combat
Ghost of Tshushima is a more tailored experience, we have complete character creation, underwater and verticality in Ronin so it may need to make the odd sacrifice.
Playd it last night, and it pretty fun!!! Reminds me of them ps2 mid tier games from back in the days, then after decades people start saying how good it was!!!
The best way I could describe this game is that it is very similar to the first Dragon’s Dogma: the graphics aren’t the best; but the combat is amazing; it has AI companions (when not using co-op); and it’s open world. And like Dragon’s Dogma 1, I feel that this game is going to gain somewhat of a cult following over the next 15 years.
Its the best story Team ninja did for their game. Ryoma is my favorite character. Its definitely what I feel an Assassin's creed open world game should be. I love the battle mechanics they may seem simple but as the game goes on it gets more complex. The thing I love about the most is the bond system cause some of the characters can actually betray you depending on which size you choose.
Got this game yesterday was hesitant because I love GOT but foolish me this game is a masterpiece of its own so much to do and the action itself blew me away
Glad to see it getting positive reviews. Not every game is going to be spectacular and top of the line, but can still be a ton of fun. Id say my only big negative, is the co-op. You cant play with friends until at least you or your friend has completed that mission, so you essentially have to play the story 2x just play with friends, which is kind of a goofy concept
I've been having a blast with this game, and it's been giving me major Tenchu vibes (even the mission start screen is similar). People saying this "looks like a PS3 game" are insane, it might not look as good as Forbidden West or something, but it has really good lighting and the outdoor areas with moving foliage look really good
Wow. This video opens with an honest statement that you wouldn't expect from this channel. But I do appreciate the hustle. Keep up the good work, lads.
I'm getting really tempted to get this game, I'm not great with souls like games, didn't get far on the Nioh games but Loved the Jedi games and enjoy open world Ubisoft games (I know) would people recommend based off that?
I wonder how many people make their custom character look unusual. I made mine an Asian girl who is blond and has demon heterochromia eyes. I also made a red haired dark skinned girl with the same eyes (maybe with a different color though). I haven't seen anyone else look that weird. I play in Performance Mode. My TV probably can't utilize visuals to it's full potential anyway. This looks like a PS3 game? I am so glad this game isn't brutally hard. I play it on Easy. I haven't used bayonet rifles yet. When do you get it? It's like the Japanese Assassin's Creed game I never had.
If you have played nioh 2 before. This game has the same end game loots. You need to complete the game at the highest difficulty then therzeis another difficulty you can play. It will give you better loot. I don't think any of the reviews even complete the game.
The game is good. My only problem is that the counter/ parry button is triangel and block is L1. That's my only problem other than that the game is very nice
People saying this had ps2/ps3 graphics are just haters that probably just wanted to feel better about getting DD2 or don't have a Playstation. It looks awesome to me and is pure fun. It may not look or feel like a movie like Ghost does, but I want fun more than I want a good movie Maybe its because I'm older and have watched tons of films, but theres very few stories I care too much about. I just want a decent enough story to go with a rewarding game and Ronin delivers that
Only the combatsystem is an AWARD worth !!! This game is a Masterpiece ! I played it all, and i thought, "okay, another Ghost of Tsushima". But very wrong . Its nearly a "Fightsimulator" , how it feel to be a Shogun .
This game slaps and I have 0 problem with the graphics and I'm a graphics guy I just got done playing FF7 Rebirth (best graphics in the business) and these graphics hold up fine afterwards. So glad Team Ninja finally wrote a good story thats all their games were lacking IMO.
Game is fantastic. For Team Ninja's first attempt at an open world game it actually looks pretty good all things considered, way better than Wo Long. Only complaint is the dated design of the open world but hearing development began 7-9 years ago that makes sense. Definitely worth it for any fan of the studio or even someone who liked previous titles but hit skill issues since w the difficulty settings
I’m glad they made it as difficult as they did twilight makes you learn how to parry and the design for the open world isn’t too bad I’ll take it over ff7 rebirth and all those goofy mini games
I just bought it now after playing 10 hours of new dd2. I am sick of reviews yes 30fps. Is not very good but idc arm I'm having a blast with dd2. And love open world games. Gaming industry takes jt self a bit to seriously. I stooped up till 7am on dd2 and I am a new customer to the franchise
I passed on DD2 for now, but lots of ppl are loving it The gaming community can be quite toxic. Some people seem like they need everyone else to hate something just because they do
Got 15 hours in it and I’m enjoying the game it has flaws but is still very fun i picked this and dragons dogma 2 up at the same time and I’ve been playing this more. The graphics are good enough but i did pick up horizon forbidden west on pc and it maxed at 4k looks amazing.
I think the feeling people like from games like this is the worst feeling in gaming. I already live with persistent anxiety... So adrenaline just makes the physical sensation of anxiety more intense....
Great, balanced review her Josh my friend and as I'm not a huge Team Ninja super fan, think I may be happy to pick this up once discounted because I may get frustrated with some aspects of this, like I have with other Team Ninja games, and put it down never to finish.
The graphics are super ugly the voices sound AI and enemies fall through the level after assassinating them but other than that I’m having fun. Def gonna finish it because I’m feral for samurai games but I don’t think I can reccomend it to anyone not into samurai style games lol

Now i feel dumb for listening to others and not pre-ordering this. It's absolutely fabulous! Looks just fine and the combat is anything but simplistic. If you're a fan of such games don't let the haters keep you from this. DD2 is obviously not finished yet. I'll wait, but at least I'll have fun doing it now!
So many angry people in here cuz you liked the game.
They are assclowns missing out on a great game 🤷
I trust this man's opinion, he also loved Days Gone! So this is a must play!
I’ve been having a lot of fun playing this game! Idk why people was saying this was so bad🤦🏾♂️
Had to choose between this and Dragon Dogma 2 and I think this appeared to be tougher to master but more rewarding
waaaaay more rewarding
I broke my pockets and got both 😂
@@YesserSirMrSir I'll get both once they on sale ❤️
This game really does looks like it was a late launched on PS3 or early ps4. That’s quite frankly embarrassing for a PS5 current gen title. That studio needs to have a word with themselves.
Apart from that it looks at least worth a play.
I really wish yall would do this regularly again. Miss the reviews.
Please quit using the word “masterpiece.” Every game or film doesn’t have to be the BEST or greatest. Just argue why you think it’s good. 😊
Can't wait to get it in the mail today alongside DD 2!
Have you seen dd2 controversy
@@ismaelbouissef4436 the controversy is the performance and microtransactions that were literally in so many previous capcom game but guess what you literally dont need to buy anything bc you can get all of that just by playing the game they had it is the previous re games and remake and no one complained cause the microtransactions are useless if you just again play the game
@@Yoshikiraa mmm you are misinformed....if you play once...you have to pay to play a a new game

Played a couple of hours. Game feels great. Sort of like an open world Wo Long. Easily the best melee combat in an open world
it's just a masterpiece, no flaws at all, just people hating and nitpicking
This comment is the reason why I called this game "mid ass overhyped"
Your statement is objectively false. I'm glad that you're enjoying the game but be definition it's not a masterpiece.
Game is great masterpiece idk nioh 2 was much better level and gameplay wise but the more I play this game the more I want to play it so there’s that
Nice even review: the good, the bad, and the dismembering fun.
Both are on the way to my house today. I’m going to play RotR first even though I loved DD back in the day. I could be wrong but I just don’t know if they made enough changes to DD2.
Literally brought this game once I saw that you could combo an enemy into an Izuna drop from Ninja Gaiden. Was like yup sign me up!
You could also do it in both Nioh games
@@joesheridan9451
Yup...played them both...still my favorite move in all of gaming
@@corey_massey Yeah it's right up there for sure
This game was clearly developed by team ninja for a more wider audience which is great
This review made me subscribe (after listening to the 14 tips video first).
Oblivious to every ignorant and arrogant person, this game is a big fabulous masterpiece, but they shall hardly ever know this
Guys I was part of the hate train and let me tell you I was completely wrong. This game is really fun and graphically its better than any Team Ninja game.
I am in love with the game ! And even the horse riding doesn't look wierd after a while 😂😂😂
The only problem I have ia performance issue which I never expected from teamNinja and continous object pop in. They might patch this because there are constant frame drops.
One tip, instead fo holding l1, just forget that button and focus on triangle. If you are focusing on both, there is high chance you will mess up and every once in a while you will hit l1 instead of triangle and die ! Speaking from experience 😁
Nah man...its not that hard to block and parry. That's horrible advice.
I was gonna get DD2 but the micro transactions and 30fps really put me off
The “micro transactions” are a joke nobody who’s played for 3 hours would even consider buying. They’re a dingdong trap. Totally unnecessary and they take nothing away from the brilliant masterpiece that dd2 is.
@@dirtsquids9854 resi2 3 and 4 remake he’s them too so unnecessary it’s for lazy people
This game actually exceeded my expectations, im a huge Japanese military history buff so it was already a must buy for me.
I bought this over dragons dog and I don’t regret it - work of art
At least this game has a performance mode and can reach 60FPS unlike Dragon's Doodoo 2.
It's because it's flawed that its a Masterpeice.
I was so glad to hear, and now know, this was something new and not just Dark Souls ( again) with a Samurai reskin.
As a total mark for the era of Bakamatsu, over the top swordplay, anime powered Samurai and the F*CKING SHINSENGUMI , this is already a top contendor for my game of the year
Since the very first announcement trailer, there has never been anything present to suggest that this game would be anything like dark souls
That's why I don't pay too much attention to review, in the end you might find it great
The word "masterpiece" gets thrown around so liberally.
thank u lmao

Didn't enjoy nioh or wo long so this one was made perfect for me.
Way of the samurai but good.
Ghost of nioh but really interesting story no generic samurai movie this time around you choose your story I love it
It’s not a bad game, just the graphics let it down and especially with the graphics they can do now! Just looks like ps3 graphics
Wait-do you fight bosses solo? I thought there was a companion system throughout the game? Are they locked out of major boss fights?
With most boss fights you can bring companions though there are a handful that are solo only!
Considering how awful DD2's performance and MTX is, yeah this is the play.
DD2 is amazing on ps5. Stop it lol
Main issue with the game is subpar graphics, which are still fine. The top tier combat makes up for the few shortcomings.
Does the game support motion aiming?
If you have played nioh 2 before. This game has the same end game loots. You need to complete the game at the highest difficulty then therzeis another difficulty you can play. It will give you better loot. I don't think any of the reviews even complete the game.
The game is good. My only problem is that the counter/ parry button is triangel and block is L1. That's my only problem other than that the game is very nice
100% agree, i'm over 40 hours in and still enjoying it more and more. Nice one Josh.
I'm finally getting good at the combat. Theres alot of dif combos (so many options)
People saying this had ps2/ps3 graphics are just haters that probably just wanted to feel better about getting DD2 or don't have a Playstation.
It looks awesome to me and is pure fun.
It may not look or feel like a movie like Ghost does, but I want fun more than I want a good movie
Maybe its because I'm older and have watched tons of films, but theres very few stories I care too much about.
I just want a decent enough story to go with a rewarding game and Ronin delivers that
whats wrong with dd2? ☠️
@@DrequanThe only glaring issues is the horrendous frame rate
@@cartoonvideos5 dam ofc ☠️
Only the combatsystem is an AWARD worth !!! This game is a Masterpiece ! I played it all, and i thought, "okay, another Ghost of Tsushima". But very wrong . Its nearly a "Fightsimulator" , how it feel to be a Shogun .
Can't wait to get my copy been watching game play and I'm glad I bought this
Easy mode for the win!!!
This game slaps and I have 0 problem with the graphics and I'm a graphics guy I just got done playing FF7 Rebirth (best graphics in the business) and these graphics hold up fine afterwards. So glad Team Ninja finally wrote a good story thats all their games were lacking IMO.
Glad I didn't listen to previews, game is a blast 👍
Game is fantastic. For Team Ninja's first attempt at an open world game it actually looks pretty good all things considered, way better than Wo Long.
Only complaint is the dated design of the open world but hearing development began 7-9 years ago that makes sense. Definitely worth it for any fan of the studio or even someone who liked previous titles but hit skill issues since w the difficulty settings
I’m glad they made it as difficult as they did twilight makes you learn how to parry and the design for the open world isn’t too bad I’ll take it over ff7 rebirth and all those goofy mini games
Why is the video only 720p. Good game though, a lot of fun and the graphics are still ok for me
This game is really thats good I think it's be more fun then dragon dogma 2
Great & Honest review! i love whatculture gaming ! been a fan for years now & big fan of Team Ninja & their games. They didn’t miss w/this one
I passed on DD2 for now, but lots of ppl are loving it
The gaming community can be quite toxic. Some people seem like they need everyone else to hate something just because they do
I'm having a lot of fun with the game; but I can't in good conscience call it a masterpiece - even just a "flawed" one.
I’m glad I didn’t pick this over DD2 but that said I do want to play this game
Got 15 hours in it and I’m enjoying the game it has flaws but is still very fun i picked this and dragons dogma 2 up at the same time and I’ve been playing this more. The graphics are good enough but i did pick up horizon forbidden west on pc and it maxed at 4k looks amazing.
0:28 that was his head right? 😂
Glad you enjoyed it and hope others who pick it up do as well, but this is a pass for me.
In contrast to my post from a few days ago, I am enjoying this game a lot more than I was and the combat is starting to click with me I like it!
Wait when you rest all the enemies respawn?
I'm at the beginning and mine says that they do not respawn
