    The inmortal clipboard! I have a foldable clipboard with a thin board taped to it, I like your set ups. Great idea with those water cups. The more you know, the less you need. And the less you need, the more you paint.

      Thanks for watching! I have since upgraded my cups...found the same cups, only larger, and I do like it better for this handheld setup.

    I’m a retired engineer newbie at sketching, I found this very efficient, simple and doable. Super idea. I saw someone’s suggestion to have a sock cuff on your wrist when using the “ultra small” setup. All good. Only thing missing is a spot for coffee ha ha

    • @JillWilliamsWatercolor
      @JillWilliamsWatercolor  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yes, coffee is a must! 🤩 Keep room in your pack for a thermos! I'm glad you enjoyed the tips, it really keeps things simple.

    With your smallest setup you could use a cut-off sock cuff on your left wrist to dab your waterbrush. I like a white cotton one.

    Thank you so much! Based on your video, I was able to put my plein air kit together, from items I have at home. As my board will be sitting on my lap, I have a small chunk of pipe insulation under the board, to give it the slightest tilt in the right direction.

    I paint with acrylics outside, and use the plastic trays from ham and meats at the supermarket, as a palette. I also use foldback clips on the edge of my board to hold water. Put 2 foldbacck clips an inch apart, and then an elastic band between the 2 clips, to hold a small plastic bottle of water.

    • @JillWilliamsWatercolor
      @JillWilliamsWatercolor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      those are great strategies Gary, anything that helps the paintings get done with less fuss is a win!

    I like plein air painting on the trail and in the mountains. I always can find a log or rock to sit on and carry a "sip-pad" of some sort. My supplies are minimal and I work in my lap usually with my paint palette and water cup on the ground or at my side. Your video was enjoyable. Always something new to consider.

    This was so helpful. I used the small plastic holder my eraser came in for the 3 paints. Similar to the flash memory card holder. Red Yellow Blue daps of paint, then used a spiral small pad- and stuck my pencil and pen ( im doing line and wash) into the spiral. its lightweight enought to hold for a full painting. And I feel more confident going out now.

    The solvent cups don't seem large enough for brush cleaning water to me. I bought the collapsible dog food/water bowls, two sides, and fill with an old drinking water bottle on a lanyard (thought about a collapsible bottle). Bowls, water container, paints, brushes, tape, etc., all fit in a very small light weight cheapy tackle box. I do use the same type of fiber board clip board, with stick on velcro to attach to velcro on the box. Love seeing how other people do things differently. Thanks.

      sure! and thanks for sharing your set up too. My main priority painting outside is mobility and having nothing to carry in my hands in case i need to scramble up rocks etc. and the cups can be emptied as often as needed, and I'm also painting very small outdoors.

    This is so helpful!!! I’m going to make a quick trip to Walmart (wearing a mask) to buy a clip board. Thank you!

      Great! The clipboard has been on of my favorite additions to my kit in recent years :)

    Where do you drop the water after use? I prefer to take it with me and dispose in a sink, not nature

      With this set up, I have a few ounces of water, and will dump on the ground if it isn't heavily pigmented. Otherwise, I will pack it out like any other trash.

      My set up weighs less than a bottled water. The second set up is less than 2 ounces.

    Please increase your audio (adding treble helps too). Thank you.
