  • Just an FYI that I filmed the voice over for this a few days ago and since then, the corona virus situation has been changing. We’ll be playing it by ear whether we go to a show at the weekend or not and will follow any guidelines put in place!
    ›› Today I talk through my jump schooling session with Dali and Khal! They are both at very different stages of training so I thought it'd be interesting to compare them.
    ›› Hey, my name is Holly and welcome to my channel! I post all sorts of equestrian videos like show vlogs, training videos, barn vlogs and more. If you want to keep up to date with me and the horses then be sure to hit that subscribe button :)

    I really like your attitude towards getting horses and especially young horses back into work! You're not pressuring them in any bad way and it feels like you have a really healthy way of doing it which makes for happy and healthy horses! I enjoy watching these videos a lot 🤩 🤩

    As usual, I really enjoy watching your lovely soft hands.
    Just a thought about your comment about Khal’s tendency to come behind vertical in the contact (I could be wrong). It strikes me that he shares Fiona’s conformation In the area of his poll, meaning how it attaches to his head. The T-1and T-2 vertebrae seem rather straight on both horses. Not that it means that he can’t round, just that it might be a tad harder for him to do it.

    • @HollyLenahanSJ
      @HollyLenahanSJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes I agree he finds it a bit harder. He tends to have a very straight top line, even compared to Dali who is much less experienced.

    Holly you are such and amazing trainer/rider. Dali looks 1000 times better than the Connemara mare I used to ride. She will be 10 this April but oh boy, she does NOT act her age, she was never started properly and is very hot, green and very inconsistent in the contact, where as Dali looked super relaxed with you even after only a couple rides, which proves just how well you have done with his ground work even before you got on. Just wow

    • @oioi1034
      @oioi1034 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Literally No one Connie’s take a lot longer to mature than most horses

    • @literallynoone5473
      @literallynoone5473 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinda sorta Equestrian maybe, but she had used her first couple of years at a camping place where she was used for small children to be walked around, causing her to have a really har time bending to the right. She then lived with another girl for 2 years where she jumped, but she was sadly never taught the basics and never learned how to carry herself, so when her current owner made a quick decision to buy her and later found out that she was SUPER stresst and knew no dressage, on top of that, her new owner is not the most experienced or confident rider so things quickly started going sour and get worse, but now she has been ridden by some very experienced riders and is starting to act more sensible but she is still no where near as well trained as any of hollys horses. I had a short half lease on her and in she was my horse would most likely focus ALOT on ground work and basic along with getting her professionally trained. So even if she is a Connie, that is definitely not the only reason she is like this,

    • @HollyLenahanSJ
      @HollyLenahanSJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s why I much rather to start a horse from scratch than get one that’s already broken! I’m sure you’ll get there with her though ☺️

      Lots of lateral work and bending their body. Also pressure and release to reward them every time they lower their head into a more relaxed frame ☺️

  • @justice4144
    @justice4144 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Holly, I really think Dali’s frame would come out sooooo much better if you’d put a bigger pad on him! You have such a small saddle and pad which makes his belly look big even though he’s not fat 😂❤️ Loving his progress though, he’s so cute 🤩

    • @HollyLenahanSJ
      @HollyLenahanSJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s actually a large saddle and saddle pad, he’s just very big (and also does have a big belly at the moment!)

      @HollyLenahanSJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wish I could afford a custom saddle for each horse but unfortunately I cannot 😉 I will be making a video soon where I get the saddle refitted and checked as it’s been a while since I bought it!

  • @daawesome166
    @daawesome166 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    With Dahli, your lower leg was to DIE for. With Khal, your heel was “popping” when you posted in trot. I’m working very hard on trying to get my lower leg more stable, so I was just wondering why your leg was so motionless with Dahli and why it was popping with Khal? Is it just the horses movement? Is it because Khal is narrower and it’s harder to use your knees to rise? I have a really good lower leg in my dressage saddle, but when I’m in my jumping saddle (shorter stirrups being my point here) my leg pops in trot

    • @HollyLenahanSJ
      @HollyLenahanSJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because that’s me squeezing khal forward with each stride as he’s very lazy. Whereas Dali is very forward going so a still leg works better with him ☺️

    • @daawesome166
      @daawesome166 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Holly Lenahan ohhh I see, I was kinda hoping I wasn’t that so you could give me some revelation that could help me with my own temperamental heels 😂 Thanks for replying anyway, I really admire the way you ride, very soft and balanced

    • @HollyLenahanSJ
      @HollyLenahanSJ  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah sorry haha if your leg is good in the dressage saddle then maybe it’s your jump saddle that isn’t supporting you as well? Or try no stirrups to try and stretch your legs down and around the horse ☺️
