    Where has this been hiding all these years? The caliber of the artists is Top Notch and the narration is very good. Thank you so much for unearthing this treasure! It is so sad to see that so many have joined the Angel Band but they gave us many years of wonderful music and memories.

    I love Don Reno’s banjo playing. Thank you for posting this. Reno sometimes he gets overshadowed others. He is a great humble man , and a great entertainer. When he was teamed up with Smiley. Nobody wanted to follow them . Super entertaining!

    Don "dueling" with himself... playing his style answered by a "tenor banjo" style like Arthur Smith played on the original. Super!

    God Bless You for posting this utterly priceless video....this is the raw materials, before the festivals got slick and "progressive", before the Americana Jazzorama slop that we endure at today's festivals...this is the real deal when bluegrass was working class music. by and for working class people...I was fortunate enough to have attended many festivals during this time and I know nearly everybody in this show....to this day I idolize Mac Wiseman....Thank You for posting this jewel !!!

      You're welcome! And I totally agree!! That's why I don't go to festivals, go to jams, or play in bands anymore. Real bluegrass is nearly dead. I'd rather stay home and play with my records than subject myself to the progressive garbage everyone wants to play now.

    Rual Yarborough backing up Chubby Wise and Mac Wiseman. I think Joe Stuart guitar on the same. Who is the banjo player backing up Chubby Anthony? maybe Jim Fee? and the extra banjo with McClain family (not Raymond) -- and takes a lead on Black Mt Rag, I think it may be Steve Kaufmann? And who is Ralph's lead singer at this time?

    • @renoman
      @renoman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is "Follow The Leader" written by Don Reno. I now own the Stelling banjo Don Wayne is playing in that clip.

    *Jason* ,This is a great show! It has so much music that you don't hear in everyday collections. There is a lot more here than i was expecting! :P
    BTW... know this is actually off topic, and i apologize. Have you ever considered posting an instructional to the banjo break on that Monroe tune, *Bluegrass Twist* , otherwise known as *Bluegrass Part 1* . While i realize it is not Don Reno, it fits the style so beautifully, i would love to see it dissected. ;)

    • @renoman
      @renoman  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If I remember correctly Bluegrass Twist is essentially just a basic boogie tune in G. I haven't done one specifically for Bluegrass Twist but there's a bunch of videos I have done that can be used for it. I've done videos on Double Banjo Blues, Reno Ride, and few others that you can apply certain licks and ideas to Bluegrass Twist...especially Double Banjo Blues. If you search for me playing Bluegrass Stomp you'll find a couple videos of us playing that tune as well. Although Bluegrass Stomp is in D, the same boogie licks can be played in G or any key. I have been thinking about doing a video for Foggy Mountain Rock which would also have a bunch of licks you can use too. So stay tuned.

    Is that Don Wayne on bass?

    • @renoman
      @renoman  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes. he played bass a lot for Don and would switch to banjo for twin banjo numbers.
