    All the connections are corroded, you need to get pliers and a wire brush and take apart that fuse block and clean everything.

      The problem on this tractor is the alternator you’ll see in the upcoming videos.

    Grounds can drive you crazy. I changed the lights on my combine a couple years ago, and last year they quit working. I messed with it for 5 hours (and multiple adult beverages) until I figured out I had a bad ground to the cab.

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว

      The strange thing about this one is it has this extra relay to make the light on the dash come on, because the light is grounded and you can’t have it work that way with the alternator. I can’t explain it easy but I understand how it works now.

    Ross, if you can't find a new relay for that era, a modern day relay should work in its place. They all have the same number coding 85,87,86, 30. If you look up relay and the number coding it will tell you what does what. Good luck, enjoying the Fiats

    Ross start at battery ground and work your way along cleaning every ground wire could be your problems are just dodgy grounds

    • @rosstheoliverman
      @rosstheoliverman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, This one is strange because it has that relay to trigger the light because the light is grounded instead of hooked to switch power. It took a while but I think my mind is finally wrapping around it 🤣🤣🤣

    Remember, remember: every ground connection via the machine's metal is always suspect. Wiring old machinery means (to me) running a separate ground wire for everything from a central ground point, aka eventually the ground side of the battery. Only use a direct ground wire, or hot wire; from the actual battery for your test light to get consistent test results. If that means a 30 foot wire on the test lamp, so be it. Rusty sheet metal, rusty screw connections, etc. simply are not reliable and can lead you down a rabbit hole where their is not rabbit. :)

    Yes, g stand for giallo(yellow)😂 I think here in Italy every parts are still avaiable for these Fiat tractors, you could swap the alternator with a new one with integrated dashboard pin light and bypass all this existing wiring. Or.. you could do a new wiring😂 bye bro.

  • @bigun447
    @bigun447 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Do like most tractor collectors do. Put a Delco one wire alternator. Maybe if you want the Fiat look, get a MoPar alternator and regulator from the early 80s and put it on. You are dealing with it "When it works it is fine, but the other 99% of the time it is not fine."
    Here is my thought on that sensing wire and relay. When you turn the switch on the voltage potential of battery 12v sees a ground at one of the diodes in the alternator and closes which turns the light on. Then when the alternator starts charging the voltage within the indicator light ground point becomes at the same voltage value as the battery and now you have a balanced voltage on both sides of the coil in the simple relay and that causes a stalemate as far as voltage goes and the coil loses current required to energize it and relaxes the relay causing the points that the current to the indicator light if provided to now be an open circuit.
    You might remember the old early, lets say early alternators, that the light would be on when you turned the key on. Then as you started the car the light would get dimmer and dimmer and then go out. That was simply because the battery voltage was on one side of the bulb and grounded in the alternator so it lit. As the alternator (Or generator) output voltage equaled the battery voltage to each side of the bulb the bulb would quit lighting. If say the belt was slipping enough that the alternator or generator was just on the edge of starting to be producing less voltage than the battery voltage the light would start to come on dim and even flicker if the charging unit was starting to charge but then the load on the belt would make it again drop charge and the bulb would come back on.
    This is a long thesis about what might be the design of the Italians, who were always known to apply fancy architecture for anything that could be made in a rather simple way. The only more screwed-up electrical systems are the Lucas, The Prince of Darkness, ones the Brits had.

      You’ll see in an upcoming episode, that’s what I do to the other tractor. Thanks Gary!

  • @AsitShouldBe
    @AsitShouldBe ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think you should do this test: check if the battery goes to 13,6-14V when the engine run; in this case the alternator is fine and the dashboard light is nothing to worry.
    If the voltage is much lower you got bad alternator or bad wires .. good luck😂
