Dude- for the price its a nice ass phone. It’s like you doing a review on Kia with Mercedes expectations- what do you think you’d get for $300 in 2023? I just bought one for my son ($160 usd) and I absolutely love it for him. The screen is bright and legible- it’s splash proof- with a decent camera and a stylus for him to doodle. Your review is quite inadequate for those who are looking for a “budget” phone with some sort of build quality and perks.

I resonate with this. Iphones and Samsungs hardly sell for less than $500-2,000 dollars AFTER discounts. Meanwhile, this moto is $20 bucks on my service. For the average guy, the moto g stylus and its features are a steal.

Your review, although comprehensive, is way too harsh. I purchased this phone (unlocked) one week ago and have used it to the fullest. For a $299 phone, it is excellent. Features are comprehensive and intuitive. Stylus is quite adequate. Overall…..a good smart phone and a buy at $299.

Agreed. He sounds like he's describing a different phone to the phone I bought. I think a lot of these tech influencers forget they are reviewing a $300 phone and compare it to a $1400 Iphone or $1000 Samsung. Honesty, this phone is performing as well as the Iphones and Samsungs I've recently had. Yeah, it doesn't have an OLED screen and it's all plastic, but it does everything every other phone does and just as well.

Depends on how you treat them. Most of my iPhones have lasted me 4-5 years. I use them for a year and pass it on to my parents or my siblings and they use it for 3-4 more years between them. I don't buy high end Androids other than recently but the Android phones that I have bought for $300-$500 have only lasted me like 1-2 years. Mostly because my kid takes bad care of them and breaks them.

They're utilitarian phones for people who want something affordable and reliable from a name they trust. Many also love their Android experience. I still remember the reviews of the LG Stylo phones where they mentioned that there was no other phone with the uniquely cheap stylus features on the market. That time LG didn't seem to feel the need to change much in the upcoming Stylo models but then Motorola found a niche in the competition and came up with a slightly more capable stylus phone with better battery and memory and chip set. But with LGs disappearance from the smartphone world things radically changed.I think Motorola is somewhat in the same position as LG was before. They don't want to spend tons of money on a product that isn't their main selling point plus doesn't have any competition whatsoever so no surprise that many features are being repeated and carried on from the older device.

I think it's a hard spot to have money to fund phones that don't return in profit. In my eyes Motorola has a lot of competition against Samsung. 😮😮😮 I just cannot believe I am reading what you wrote right here about the migraine headaches! My half-sister went from the Motorola to the pixel 17 months ago and all she ever does is complain about her migraine headaches. I don't ever remember her speaking about having any type of pain in her head until just recently when she switched from the Motorola to the brand new Google pixel phone. I noticed my vision has become very cloudy since I began using the Samsung s23 for the last 5 months and I have even gone to the eye doctor because it is so disturbing not to be able to see out of your right eye and left eye is extremely cloudy. I will definitely start doing some research on the different types of screens. I also still have my Motorola G in 2019 and I completely forgot about it because I only used it while I went on my nightly 6 me walk and working out at the gym. Never used the phone for service only as my workout companion.

The Motorola g stylus is not a $1,400. You give examples of other stylus and non stylus phones performance but all the examples cost around 4 or 5 times as much. The Moto g stylus gives up many things to get to that price point. You can't compare a Chevy cobalt to a Mclaren. How many other phones out there have a stylus at this price point? How many even support a stylus at that price?

I bounce around on what phone I carry, between a couple of iPhones, a Samsung, and the Motorola that I'm on now which is the Motorola One 5g UW Ace from 2021 which is still a fine phone. This phone finds itself in the rotation specifically because of the software experience, which in this case is Android 12. Since it started on Android 10 and got 2 major OS updates, that's pretty good for Motorola. There's absolutely nothing clunky about the software experience. It is practically a basic android OS with a few gestures thrown in. That's what makes it a refreshing change from my Samsung's One UI. Even with the phone running a Snapdragon 750g from a couple of years ago it still runs incredibly smooth.

My dream phone would be a phone that looks like the Razor V3 and have Google Maps. Past that, I would like for it to hook up to Windows Link or Phone link.
Other than that, It just needs to make calls, receive calls and have voice texting what little texting I do on a phone. I want to be able to fold it up and shove it in my pocket.
This is the dream phone for me.
EDIT: That little Stylus with a program like Picsay Pro is amazing when editing pictures. Just thought I would add that in there.
EDIT again: I just saw you can buy the Motorola G Stylus 5G (2023) at Cricket new customer for $39.99. That is not bad compared to $1800.00 for something else.

I bought one and sadly had to return it. I always have a really bad cell signal from our AT&T tower (only AT&T in our rural area). I wanted to be able to make Wifi calls with this phone, but this phone does not support it. The phone itself is top notch with great speed and awesome cameras. Loved it.

I paid $199 unlocked, I had the 2022 and I LOVED IT, I'm hoping to feel the same about this one, I'm pretty simple, my 2 biggest gripes w the old one was the lack of stereo sound, and lack of NFC technology, both were fixed, I have massive fingers my right index finger is approx size 11 therefore the stylus is helpful, I'm artistic and love to draw, sometimes from start to finish on the SKETCHBOOK app, other times on paper then upload a photo of it and color that app, but point is, the experience has been very positive, especially for the $200 price tag, and not being a major techy, great phone for the price.. 256g storage is great, 6g ram is pretty snappy.

Stop hating on Motorola there are there own brand and can be how they want to be. Just because they are not like Samsung or apple that does not mean that they are bad. It is a good company and price for performance is better then Samsung every brand has there own quirks and that is not a bad thing it just makes the brand better in my eyes. That just means that the brand it is it own and you have differences that are difference from other company's. if all the brands had no difference then it would just be boring.

I think it's about the stylus. You are paying more to get a stylus. If you don't need a stylus, you going always get another cheaper moto phone. Personally though, I don't mind the skin. Outside of a few annoying bloatware apps that can be uninstalled I've always seen the skin as very close to stock Android with very little performance limitations. Was surprised at your take to be honest. I really enjoy the moto skin mainly because it's pretty simplistic and it feels non intrusive, minus your weird weather app thing 😂

AGREED! After almost a year in using this phone, I loved my Motorolas back in the day, but under Lenovo's leadership, it is lacking any devotion that rivals anything from Motorola's leading-edge history, and this phone is proof that Lenovo tried to fulfil a price point with little to no thought of the customer experience or how its cheap hardware choices affect said UX.

  • @TheBsniz

I've been using this phone for a year now because of its price and oddly, its name. I don't care about my phones, if they do what I want at a reasonable rate I'm fine. I switched carriers and came from a generic low budget samsung phone. I picked this because I hadn't seen Motorola in a long time and it was cheap. Other than the materials (I hate most iphones but my wifes phone feels so much better) it has been a potent ass phone for next to nothing. I don't even have a case and it still looks the same as the day I bought it. It's never been slow, its never had a hiccup. Just works surprisingly fast, has a good camera, and 5G. It just does what you want, you don't have to think about it, like the good appliance it is. As for the stylus, well that was a bonus and I only use it to write sarcastic messages on my screen to people talking to me.

I honestly think Motorola has kind of lost their way. Like, if they're gonna keep releasing the same phone year after year, there should at least be some improvements that people can appreciate, you know? Last year's stylus phone was basically identical to the 2021 model. They changed the design a bit but totally skipped out on any major improvements, especially for the stylus. What's the point of having a stylus phone if they're not even gonna focus on the stylus functionality? TCL got it right the first time with their stylus device, you've gotta give them credit. By the way, the 2022 version of the Motorola Moto G stylus was released and it actually cost way more than this new 2023 5G version. I wouldn't mind paying $400 for a Motorola phone, especially if it had good stylus functionality, better camera quality, or even just improved software for processing photos and a nicer display.
