I just purchased the 200 and made my first honey whole wheat loaf- which turned out PERFECT!!! Yeah!! so happy- why do you ask? Because I bought it at the Goodwill for $9.00 dollars!! I took the risk that it would work and it did!! To whom ever donated this beautiful machine-THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!! I feel like I got a very nice gift from some person or persons who were extremely thoughtful!! Merry Christmas to all!!
I've had the CBK-200 for several years now, have made around 200 loaves, and have been mostly pleased with it (I've had 5 other bread machines in the past). I agree with everything you have said in this review, and my biggest complaints about this machine: - Over time, the paddle becomes very squeaky. - Every time you press the recipe button to choose a recipe, it resets all of your other settings. - As you mentioned, the beeps are hard to understand. The two main beeps during baking are mix-ins (nuts, etc) and paddle removal. Unless you are standing close by and monitoring the baking, there really isn't an easy way to know which is which. The top panel should just tell you what to do. - Also as you mentioned, sometimes the dry ingredients are not all mixed in well. I strongly recommend that everyone check the machine after about 45 minutes (not before) to make sure there are no extra dry ingredients stuck to the sides of the pan. If there are, use a rubber spatula and mix them back in by hand. But there is no need to do this frequently. Just once or twice after 30-45 minutes is sufficient. - Over time it becomes difficult to seat the pan properly into the machine. This is more aggravating than it may seem. Often, I've had to rotate the paddle several times and push down hard to get it seated properly. - It can be difficult to remove the bread from the pan, especially since the pan will be VERY hot. This part requires some practice and can be dangerous to your fingers the first few times. With larger loaves, it is easier to remove from the pan if you have removed the paddle during the rising/baking cycles. A lot of times, the pan requires very violent shaking to remove the bread.
Haven’t made nearly as many loaves as you. But I agree with your points. The last 3 I made literally wouldn’t come out no matter how violently I shook it. Ended up having to dig down the sides with a knife to loosen it up. And even then it still was a chore to get it out. Wasn’t nearly as hard before, and I was making the exact same loaf so I’m not sure why. Brevilles bread maker has a paddle that automatically flattens itself out so you don’t have to fiddle with removing it. But it is also almost twice as much $$$.
I just found a used CBK200 never been used for $10.00 . Came with booklet as well.. Yay. I'm so thankful for your video. I've been wanting a bread maker but would never purchase it new because it's something most people buy but never use and turn it over to charity. Breadmakers are like the norditrac of the kitchen 🤣🤣 But I'm glad there are helpful hints like why bother removing the paddle .
My favorite thing about this video is watching the interaction between you and your wife. It's wonderful to see such an obviously loving couple on social media. I wish the two of you all the luck in the world and many years of shared bread!
I always use the Dough/pizza dough setting (10). When it finishes mixing & beeps to end cycle I remove the dough, form it and put it in greased Pyrex bread pan. I put it in the oven under the oven light for 50 mins then preheat oven to 350 F and put it back in for 40 minutes. Perfect bread with perfect crust. You can lightly brush butter over the top of the loaf when it's done if you like. Makes great Cinnamon Raisin Bread too. If anyone wants my recipe just leave a reply here.
Thank you for the video.. I usually put a little butter around the paddle for I insert the ingredients. This way the paddle does not stick to the bead in the end. Sometimes I tweak the ingredients from other bakers either from the foodnetwork or allrecipes.
The best review I have seen. The camera work you did kept me entertained...I know it has nothing to do with the review, but I just wanted to say I thought it was pretty cool. I am looking for this bread maker now on Ebay. Thank you.
Thanks for talking about the convection part of the bread maker, something Cusinart didn't bother to mention in their own demo of the product! What you don't mention is the difference in size between the two different models which to many space-restricted people is significant beyond the difference in price. So far nobody bothered to review the compact model they make on TH-cam either. Great review though and adorable couple! He's a keeper, not only articulate but willing to cook, so was wise to marry this one darlin'. 😉 As a side note, this is a bread machine with no more than a small computer chip which operates the programming modes and as such is not hackable or so we'd all hope, but it's funny to hear this word in conjunction with using a scraper to move flour around and I'd think it's more of a 'workaround' because after all, making bread does not require Mr. Robot expertise to operate. I got a chuckle for being a 'vintage' computer geek. Hack on!
Thanks for the demonstration. I gave the 200 and have tried a couple of times to bake bread and it did not mix well. The last time I tried was just before Christmas 2020 and the flour and yeast were still sitting on top, which made me frustrated. However your demonstration showed that I need to watch as it is needing to ensure all ingredients are well mixed.
I gave away my Hostess brand bread maker from 30 years ago because it was too bulky for a condo kitchen. I kept my heavy mixer though and during this pandemic isolation make 2 loaves a week of honey oat bread. Delish! Flour, butter, oats, honey , eggs etc. let rise in mixer bowl, punch down after rising, shape into loaves and place in greased baking pans. And the crust is not too thick like my bread maker created, no hole where the paddle had been, shape is acceptable for a standard gallon freezer bag. I am going to research a different mixer because the kitchen aid is a brute to move around.
I am so happy I can get "fresh bread" at the command of my fingers I sincerely don't care about a hole at the bottom of the bread. Why? The cheese and ham is patiently waiting on it to be devoured into my stomach. Thanks for the tips. 🍞 looks 👌 👍
I just bought the CBK-200. I tried making a loaf of the cinnamon/raisin loaf in the book, but wasn't happy. After watching this video, I will take a jab at making the one pound white loaf like you did. I will leave the paddle in like you did, because that was a pain. TY
Can active yeast be used? (Active yeast = the one you have to dissolve first in a warm liquid) If the answer is yes, do you add the dry granules directly to the flour or dissolve it first before adding?
I just received the cbk-200 as a give from my son and today is the first day I have ventured to use the bread maker. I was completely confused what buttons to start the process. so per the manual it shows to do menu, crust and then loaf size. i ended up with 1 1/2 lb loaf, light crust buy i had used the recipe for the wheat bread - 2 lb and i wanted medium crust. I hope it comes out okay. I am waiting for the bread to finsh baking. about 2 hours more to go. so my question is: do i select loaf size first, then crust and then menu?
The paddle comes off during the kneading process. I ordered a new pan and new kneading paddle and it's incredibly loose fitting and I am afraid the same issue is going to happen again. Any advice?
I wish I knew how to make a lighter bread like Wonder Bread. They are always heavy and denser than I want. I do weigh my ingredients and with everything I know I follow these recipes to the Letter and check and recheck before I begin to assemble them into the loaf pan. Any other suggestions please???
I have the Cuisinart 200. I can deal with the mixing issues, I take a small spatula/scraper and push the flour from the corners to the center. But mine bakes too dark. I tried the light setting and it baked darker than the medium. Is there a setting I can change? If I am around, I can take it out early but if not, then it will be burnt.
I agree with others - NO MUSIC. Avoid the cutaways. And use better audio for yourself. Multiple cameras are nice, but not essential. Wrapping the bread in plastic wrap covering the cut or open end will suffice to keep the bread from drying out.
I make bread same like your but I use olive oil so when baked easy to take out from baking machine, & I use 1 cup all-purpose flour & 1 cup of whole wheat. I used over 3 years but last week Machine give up so today bought new & luckily it was on sale yahoooooo
We bought one. We used it for about 6 months. The pan just pops in. Well now when the mixing starts, the pan pops out. We have bought a new bread machine, a different kind, this new one, the pan locks in the base. We like fresh bread without all of the preservatives and additives.
I love the video! I just bought this machine-- However, it doesn't close completely, meaning there is no click when I close it and it doesn't seem like it is completely closed there is a tiny gap too. Is that normal?
I have a CBK-200C It appears to be cooking too hot. The outside of the machine is so hot you can not touch it. I received 3rd degree burns removing the loaf pan. The crust is dark and over baked. Anyone have a comment on this? Otherwise I love this machine!
Lois Teed Try using the machine to create the dough only, let dough rise, remove from machine pan, punch dough down, shape into loaf and put in loaf pan to bake in oven. Better bread.
This was an amazing well done review of this bread maker. Have you ever calculated the cost of the ingredients to the cost of store bought bread. Does this bread have a bread machine smell to it or like a really good smell of oven baked bread.
thanks for the note Erwin! The bread from the bread machine smells extremely good. That's one of the perks of making the bread at home. I haven't done a cost comparison, although I would guess store bought bread comes out a lot cheaper when you consider ingredients and time involved. Cost isn't the deciding factor for me. I would still go for home made bread because of the quality & simplicity of the ingredients (no preservatives and other ingredients I've never heard of), and fun of making your own bread at home. Cheers!
I have now bought a bread machine and am stunned on how good it tastes compared to store bought bread that is baked in the store. I found that even after 5 days the bread still tasted awesome where store bought tasted real bad and had to be toasted. As far as cost I don't think there is a big difference and in the end its about healthy eating as I use Olive Oil instead of butter and I am sure the stores use cheap lard.and all kinds of chemicals.
All the reviews I have watched that do a cost comparison have said the bread comes to about $0.50 a loaf of bread. Not bad at all considering the freshness and that one knows what one put into it and what one is eating/ giving to his family.
Hi there! When using recipes that are not from the book do you have to modify the temperature by -25 degrees? I heard that convection ovens require less temperature, so does that mean other bread recipes need to modified for this machine?
I have a different model bread machine and it came with two different books. One of them has several empty programming modes to program your custom settings for your own recipes. So my guess is that you change temperatures based on the recipe. Trial and error will probably be your best bet to customize your settings for your own recipes if they were not intended for a machine. This link should help; blog.kingarthurflour.com/2018/04/30/how-to-convert-recipes-to-a-bread-machine/
there were a couple of choices made that explanation for which would have enriched the experience. Honey vs. sugar. Powdered milk instead of real milk or would water alone sufficed.
Hi there If I don't have my measuring cup and spoon that cone with my bread maker, can I use generic measuring cup and scoops? Thanks!! Love your Seattle Pike Place Market photo frame
I got the bread machine as a gift and have tried it several times i am yet to get a loaf i can eat the flour is always to sticky and it never bakes help
Nice video! Thank you for this information. I just made my first loaf of bread in my CBK200, following the Challah bread recipe exactly as written, but using the "light" crust setting instead of "medium." The bottom and sides were burned. I noticed that there was no sound coming from my machine while it was baking. Do you normally hear the fan running when you use your machine?
That's strange. You should hear a fan noise since it's a convection oven. You can run the bake cycle on it's own to see if that kicks off the heating element and the fan. If no luck, I'd return the unit for a replacement. Best of luck!
Thank you, Kevin. I love convection baking, which is why I chose this bread machine. I expected to hear the fan. This is very disappointing, as it's a replacement for the first one that came out of the box damaged. I'll check out the bake cycle and see if the fan turns on then.
So far the local Cuisinart dealer has been very good. If I have to return it, it means another couple of weeks waiting for a new one. I agree that it's a nice machine. Everything went so smoothly until the baking part.
yeah, I always remove the paddle to clean the tin and the paddle. Sometimes it helps to let the tin soak first as some flour gets in between the paddle and the axle, making the paddle hard to remove. Hope that helps!
Kevin Stratvert thanks Kevin. I soaked it and it came off Nice! I also agree with the beeps... I’m making raisins bread right now and hope I’m not mess that up with guessing which beeps are which! Awesome video my friend!
sure thing, awesome to hear that the tip worked :) yeah, it would be so much easier if they had a beep along with a message that told you exactly what to do. You get used to the beeps after a while, but the design could have been simpler. Good luck with the raisin bread... sounds delicious!
I don't think so. It is preheating the ingredients and should start kneading after a few minutes. Now, if you mean it never comes off of preheating, then I think there must be something wrong with the machine electronics. Either way, I don't see how you can be doing something wrong...

You consider as a downside that some types of bread have to be completed in the oven?? Dinner rolls have to be completed in the oven; pizza dough has to be completed in the oven, yes; focaccia has to be completed in the oven, yes; dough for making pretzels, yes; dough for making challah bread, yes. Yes, the machine does the hard work of kneading the dough for you so that you can complete what remains to be done in the oven (unless you like hand kneading yourself). All machines have both bread & dough capability. Count your blessings!
Okay, that was a bit on the funny side but I'm sure he didn't expect it to spit out a ready-made pizza crust or formed pretzel yet I didn't get that he sounded ungrateful for it, only pointing out that all these do is make a loaf of bread, no more or less.
Just got this today and just finished my white bread. So the dough rose up just fine then Collapsed Into a crater, anyone know why? Of course I followed the directions exactly.
did anything disturb the rising dough? might have just been bad luck. I've had it happen a time or two, but that's because I opened it and touched it... lesson learned :)
I haven't done the math, although my hunch is that you should come out ahead given the low cost of the ingredients and the quality of the loaf you're getting
During the pandemic there is no yeast on grocery shelves 🤨. My hubby is a just in time guy so we did not have extra anything unfortunately. I intend to have a couple of packet strips always on hand in future. I just ordered from EBay 1 pound of yeast for $18.00.
Only up to 1 1/2 lb loaf, if you try to make a 2 lb loaf when the bread rises to its 2 lb volume the top will cave in. I have never had this happen before with other bread makers so beware. I have tried different flour, made sure everything placed in the pan was at room temperature, and still the same result with a 2-pound loaf.
That sure is a short loaf! Doesn't it rise any better than that? Maybe it's because it's a 1# loaf. My 1.5# whole wheat rises to the top of the pan, at least...depending on conditions.
Thanks. Just bought one from Bloomingdales. I am so disappointed that it looks so used 🤨 I decided to smake a loaf any way and wasted so much time and ingredients🧐only to find out doesn’t even work. Live and learn, looks like you have to open the box and look before you purchase anything.. so disappointed in Bloomingdales for selling used non working appliances.🤕now I have to haul it back to the store.
Check the latest Cuisinart CBK-200 bread maker pricing on Amazon: amzn.to/2x4gtcC (as a disclaimer, purchasing through this link gives me a small commission to support videos on this channel -- the price to you is the same).

Me, too. Used but it well kept with the cup, teaspoon/Tablespoon combo and booklet.
AKA the slow cooker or instapot. Nice.
My favorite thing about this video is watching the interaction between you and your wife. It's wonderful to see such an obviously loving couple on social media. I wish the two of you all the luck in the world and many years of shared bread!
Thanks so much Bryan! We recently welcomed a son to the world :)
OMG!! The music was so loud after listening to your low voice, scared the living crap out of me! 😂😁🤣🤣
Miska Dean Agree. I had to keep adjusting the volume button.
Me too😂
It's because he's psychotic.
I was given one of these and was hesitant to use it. Now I’m going to give it a try. Thank you!!
I legit found a cusinart 200 on the streetfor free and now I'm watching a review for it lol
Thank you for the review. I bought this at a thrift store today. I'm looking forward to trying it.

good tip, I'll have to try that out! Thanks for sharing!
@@KevinStratvert Let me know how it works for you.
This is what I get doing it my way, baked & bagged. (See picture below by clicking link)

Thanks for the note! Great tip to include butter on the paddle to prevent sticking. I'll have to try that the next time I bake a loaf!
thats a great idea
You did a wonderful job describing this bread machine. I just ordered one and cant wait for its arrival. Thank you so much for this video.
NO WAY! Kevin teaching bread?! Wow! I love your tech videos. You are a great human being. Love you man. Was this before the Kevin Cookie Company?
A good informational video but your blasts of sound are unbearable. I kept having to mute the sound.
Thanks for the feedback. I'll take that into account for future videos! Cheers!
Yes, its painful.
Thank you for the video...are you folks chefs?

Just bought CBK 110, your review was informative and very useful information, thanks! Will crank it up tomorrow Saturday morning
And now they're charging $200 and more online for the CBK-200. I had mine purchased in 2008.
I am so happy I can get "fresh bread" at the command of my fingers I sincerely don't care about a hole at the bottom of the bread. Why? The cheese and ham is patiently waiting on it to be devoured into my stomach. Thanks for the tips. 🍞 looks 👌 👍

Leonard Padin Thank you for this link!! 👍🏻
Anyone know where i can find the booklet since I received it as a gift but didn't receive the book lol thank you!
You help me understand how ot work. Thank you
Great information, very detailed. Thank you for your time 👍
Great review, very informative. You answered all my questions, thank you!
It looks like it could use a few teaspoons of water to stop that flour problem
how long should the knead cycle last
there were a couple of choices made that explanation for which would have enriched the experience. Honey vs. sugar. Powdered milk instead of real milk or would water alone sufficed.
Hi there
If I don't have my measuring cup and spoon that cone with my bread maker, can I use generic measuring cup and scoops? Thanks!!
Love your Seattle Pike Place Market photo frame
Hello - yes, absolutely, a generic cup and scoop will work just fine. Thanks on the photo! We live right down the street from there.
I got the bread machine as a gift and have tried it several times i am yet to get a loaf i can eat the flour is always to sticky and it never bakes help
Kevin, I would like a Keto Recipe for this machine. I can't find one.
Pinterest may have some
I'll check out the bake cycle and see if the fan turns on then.
ah, what a bummer. Hopefully you bought from a place with a good return policy. If you get a machine that works, it's a great bread machine.
So far the local Cuisinart dealer has been very good. If I have to return it, it means another couple of weeks waiting for a new one. I agree that it's a nice machine. Everything went so smoothly until the baking part.
Great review very well done
Agitation function will not stop. Machine is three years old. Is it done, or what is happening
Thank you very much! Super informative!
How do you recommend storing it?
I store the loaf out in the open. Make sure to place the cut end down. That'll help it last longer.
Do you take out the paddle to clean the container? That thing is almost impossible to remove!
yeah, I always remove the paddle to clean the tin and the paddle.
Any experience with any of the Zojirushi bread makers?
unfortunately not, I've only ever used the the CBK-200 and it's still going strong :) We just used it last night again for some white bread.
Fresh baked bread should rest for 2 hours to set the gluten. Also cut off the heel and replace it on the cut end to keep fresher.
Can we substitute dry milk with something else?
I kind of disagree with that industry...

How to set up time for bake only?
Thank you so much!! This is a great review. Tons of useful information. If I could, I would like to give 100 thumbs up!
Thank you. Really helpful.
Add/mix ingredients in bread pan before you place it into bread machine. It will keep your machine cleaner.
OMG you are like in every video I search for from programs to my breadmaker lol Is there anything you don't do?
Great video except for the music.....lol. I’ve had the CBK 100 for about 6-7 years with another brand that I have.
my machine doesnt knead right away but stay on preheat.. Am I doing something wrong?
I don't think so. It is preheating the ingredients and should start kneading after a few minutes. Now, if you mean it never comes off of preheating, then I think there must be something wrong with the machine electronics. Either way, I don't see how you can be doing something wrong...

My Zojirushi rests for about 15-20 minutes before kneading.
Why is my crust like a brick? I have the cbk 200.
Ive owned a breadman and it was perfect i never had a crappy loaf perfect everytime
My market only has $5 & $6 loaves. I think that ingredients for bm loaves cost less than $1. Yes?
I haven't done the math, although my hunch is that you should come out ahead given the low cost of the ingredients and the quality of the loaf you're getting
During the pandemic there is no yeast on grocery shelves 🤨. My hubby is a just in time guy so we did not have extra anything unfortunately. I intend to have a couple of packet strips always on hand in future. I just ordered from EBay 1 pound of yeast for $18.00.
Great review I'm asking santa for one for Christmas😁🎅✌
Thanks! Hope you enjoy it come Christmas!
Waow dude! Sound job!
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks 👍
Was that a 2lb. ?
Great video thanks!!!!
Music at 13:30 was a bit much
Thank you.
That sure is a short loaf! Doesn't it rise any better than that? Maybe it's because it's a 1# loaf. My 1.5# whole wheat rises to the top of the pan, at least...depending on conditions.
I typically make the smallest loaf size. It’s the most that I can eat and it still tastes fresh.
could you make the recipe
Thanks for your view, but dam, that music. Next time KEEP IT OFF!!
Thanks. Just bought one from Bloomingdales. I am so disappointed that it looks so used 🤨 I decided to smake a loaf any way and wasted so much time and ingredients🧐only to find out doesn’t even work.
Live and learn, looks like you have to open the box and look before you purchase anything.. so disappointed in Bloomingdales for selling used non working appliances.🤕now I have to haul it back to the store.
wow, that's unexpected from Bloomingdales. Yeah, definitely bring that back!
@@KevinStratvert I returned it. but it was a definite waste of my short life time.

Good review. Came here after seeing a breadmaker in Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
WTF is up with the music interjections? Too loud and random. Damn...
