Hi! Just found your video. I was intrigued to see the newbrain with the memory expansion and the infamous disk controller. Many years ago I had the exactly same setup, bought as new from my local computer store. I never got the disk drive and controller to work, and I was cringed to see the "no response from disk controller" error message, as I have sat countless hours to try to solve that. Even the fact the system was new and under guarantee I want back to the store and asked them to fix it for me. Several times it went to repair, but eventually they had to give up and I got my money back.
I later heard from another friend who got a used newbrain setup with diskcontroller, that the power supply for both the drive and disk controller had to be extremely accurate. He was using the original power supply which came with the unit, and when it was cold everything worked allright, but when the power supply got up to working temperature, they same "no response...." error message began and the system became unusable.
So if you still have these units lying around and are trying to get them to work, be consider to have extremely correct voltage on the units.
Thank you for showing this systems. Brings back many old school computer memories to me :)
    Greetings,
    Jimmy

Hey. I'm glad someone watched the video ;) I have pretty much given up on getting it to work for now. I don't own the original power supplies. Have a nice day.

Grundy New Brain was my first computer when I was 7 years old. It stopped working one day and my mother threw it away. (mothers...) The green NEC monitor I still own. I collect vintage computers but I was never able to obtain a New Brain computer again. I remember playing the nim game. Ah... good memories.

Good luck finding one of those in relatively good condition. And even if you do, it will probably cost a fortune. Hell, even "for parts only" are hard to find and expensive.

My parents bought me a New Brain computer in 1987.
