WHO ARE WE?
We’re Jason and Nikki Wynn. We have been living #OffTheGrid and exploring the world for 10 years.
Our first six years of #travel were an epic road trip around North America.
Now we’re on a sailing voyage about the world. Did we have any previous sailing experience, of course not!
Neither of us is overly talented, smart, rich, lucky, or retired. But that doesn’t stop us from reaching far-flung destinations, having wild adventures, and managing everything that makes living aboard a moving vessel possible.

Not sure if any one caught it, but Nikki says, "bits and bobs", shows you how a couple of yanks can become one with their surroundings. loved it.
"Bits and bobs'" is an old English term, but has become gradually more common in the US since the seventies. I think "odds and ends" is the more common NZ expression.
I *did* notice that.
@@jaygee5693 I'd say both are true. When she said I thought, "Oo, that's a Kiwi-ism." (Okay, also a Britishism.) :)
@@drinkinslim I was the same, that's why I searched it. Most of our 'Kiwi' (and 'Aussie') expressions originate in British English, some of which are not unknown in Canada and the US.
Thank you for your comment. As well, "yanks" is not always a nice adjective to use for the people of the US. In some areas of the US, it could be considered not nice; if not plain rude.
I love that putting the overhead window in from 1:44 to 1:49 is only a fraction of this video, but it must have taken SOO much time to figure out and plan, let alone do. I think this is true about virtually everything in this video, we can really see all the work that goes in behind the scenes! Great video guys!
"I got to ride in the tractor!" - childhood joys are still just as special in adulthood :) haha
My wife spent her childhood as a farm kid. Some of her fondest memories involve tractors and cotton trailers.
She would probably love to ride his other tractor
All smiles! Just the fact you are in warm weather clothes, as I sit here shivering, makes me smile. The boat looks great, fantastic work!
The Tug interview was priceless. 😂👌🏻
Jason. Soft start and touch screens are a huge deal. Be excited! Don't let Nikkis sigh and eye roll make you down.
Nikki just let him enjoy his tech LOL
Girls never get it! They never appreciate the significance of that type of stuff. Even if they eventually do they’re like, “you never told me about that”, because they refuse to pay attention to us when we’re telling them about that stuff because they have no interest in it at the time. Frustrating!!
@@srcastic8764 OP here... as a girl I get it.
Imo, soft start is a huge deal... The touch screen is cool, but I think they're overrated. If anything happens to the screen, you either have to go to the unit itself or you're well and truly screwed. I prefer buttons or switches.
That goes for anything, too. Yay I can listen to music on my phone or iPod but I can't skip songs, rewind, even change the volume without taking it out of my pocket to fiddle with the screen. Whereas before, with the iPod that had the wheel, you could feel what you were doing and press the button accordingly without needing to see the screen.
Cars are all going the same way with touch screens... But they want us to keep our eyes on the road and not be looking at devices. With it all on the touchscreen you *have* to look to see where you're touching and be sure you're on the right menu. With buttons and dials it was easy to memorize where each button was and feel for the right one without needing to take our eyes off the road.
OK, I know I got off track on my rant about touchscreens but it still applies to their situation. It's cool. It is. But, like I said before, overrated. They can't fix it if it breaks. And if the touch screen no longer works they lose access to ANY function. Whereas with buttons, switches or dials they could, most likely, fix the problem themselves and if they couldn't they could still control the other functions with the other separate controls.
However, I do understand his excitement over the coolness of it all.
@@srcastic8764 that's an unfair statement. I know lots and lots of girls who are so into gadgets and tech. Equally, I know a ton of guys who couldn't care less if you paid them.
Y'all have done so much during this repair/refit cycle! And in only 8 weeks during an effing global pandemic!
You should be very proud of what you have accomplished. Really, I mean that.
Thanks for sharing your story and I look forward to seeing more of how y'all and Curiosity do your travels.
Be well!
I just wanted to say you both are a huge inspiration to my boyfriend and I. We are both 24 years old, planning to get an RV in January and eventually a sailboat to travel the world. You both have shown me and my boyfriend that if you have a dream, don’t let anything stop you or anybody tell you that you can’t do it. I recently found out I got accepted into nursing school and I am very nervous but I believe anything is possible because of you two. We both hope to meet you two one day, it would be dream come true! So glad to see you back on the water! Happy sailing and safe travels!! ☺️🙏 🌊 🛥
Congrats & best of luck with it all!
Do it, get it done...
@@gonewiththewynns thank you so much!! We also have 2 cats and a dog so finding something spacious is important to us. We’ve seen pretty much all your videos! 😅 started watching you in June when we first got the idea to travel and just binged your whole channel!! 😂 We are so excited, watching you guys has taught us so much!! Happy Holidays!!
@@darthvato3303 We absolutely will 😊 nothing holding us back!! ☺️
Key number 24! One of my favorite terms is "Look Before You Leap" It's helped me through out my 70 years! "Good Luck" and one of my other favorite terms is "Have a Blast" :-)
Congrats on being back in the water! While I personally enjoy the “fixit” videos, I know you are so ready for these major projects to be done. I admire your determination. And I’m always impressed by how much research you do.
You made an excellent point about the downside of stainless steel - no warning before it fails. I’m looking forward to seeing the installation of the alternators (215 amps is a huge improvement), A/C, and solar panels, and hearing how well (or not) it’s all working. What’s the word on the sails?
It's really smart to divide your To Do list up into Rainy day projects and Sunny day projects. I'd be so tempted to list in order of importance or estimated time for completion or section of the boat or just randomly as they came to me.
High output alternators and a starter for the generator... awesome!
Right?? 😁
Hope you will be uprating the drive belts to drive those alternators
I’ve been watching you guys for a long time. I think after watching the last few years of “yachting” aka bob villas boat maintenance around the world. I’ve learned that I do not want to travel the world by sea! I do miss the good old days of your RV travel adventures. Call me uncultured but a island in the Bahamas looks a lot like a island near Fiji looks a lot like a island in the middle of the pacific. I hope you can soon continue your journey! Maybe I’ll see you on a mountain in Colorado some time! Good Luck!
Have to agree with you about missing their RV adventures. I've been watching them for years too. Loved loved loved their RV adventures and awesome tips. But they had to do what they had to do.
Thank you NZ for allowing our friends to make their temporary home in your back yard while they worked on their poor sick patient! Adam thanks for putting our favorite patient back in the water where she belongs! Couldn’t have asked for anyone cuter to take care of that! So glad you guys were able to get ‘er wet! Even if you do still have some projects left you’re in the home stretch! Congratulations to you both. All that hard work was grueling but your lady is almost ready to set sail again!! Looking forward to more adventures with Lady Curiosity!!
That tractor driver 😂 he needs his own channel, that Kiwi humour is great - also congrats on getting back in the water and keeping your spirits up! It sounds like it’s been hard in more ways than one and you guys definitely deserves some good times soon 🙏
If your having trouble finding marine freezer's and fridges look at RV and Tour Bus appliances. Which are the same stuff. 👈🤓😉👍
I have been a software engineer for most of my adult life and I now teach computer science. There is an old joke in the industry: if you want something done right, you have to do it twice. I guess it's not just software.
I was watching the tow guy bringing your boat down the road. I felt flutters in my stomach and my eyes were tearing up. I was so happy for you two. THEN.........Nicki asked the question and the operator said, "It's my first time". PRECIOUS.
Great news. Good on One Sails for owning the problem and reimbursing you. Dave Ullman is the best guy - i can’t even begin ti tell you how much he helped us when we were competing in 470’s (one of the many sailboat classes he’s been world champion) so glad to hear you are ordering their sails. We have Ullman sails on out boat now and love them.
Those people at the Marsden Cove Marina boat yard movin' boats around are amazing! Congrats and smooth sailing!!!
What a sense of humor from the tractor guy. Of course, Nikki brings out the best in a dude. Right mate!! :o) watching this Sunday morning after a tragic Saturday night and this video put a smile on my face and gave me a good perspective on what life is all about. Keep up the great work Curiosity. Luv ya! "It's all going to be fine".
I respect how much tender love and care you give SV Curiosity. She's beautiful and so brilliant for a home. bravo
You both are ambitious and motivated . It's fun to watch you because you both maintain such a calm control throughout your self edited videos of disaster and kaos.
You are a beautiful couple with many skills. Thanks for sharing so much ! Glad that you're back on the water !
That was such a beautiful hug at the beginning!!
My goodness, what a journey!!
I liked your comment there at the end where Nikki said "I'm in a big boat so I win!" , I've said that many times!. I drive a bigger truck and my wife gets a little anxious when I do something a little on the edge. I just say, "I'm in a big truck and big always wins!".
Splash Day Woohoo!!! Wow that is a shiny sparkly anchor! 🤩💎👏🏼👏🏼 🤣🤣🤣 No hands hahahaha, he is hilarious with a beautiful smile! Man I want to move there so I can listen to that accent every day. Happy for You guys!! Stay Blessed! 😁🙏🏼💖🤗
I’ll say it a million times, you two are a great couple!!!
I liked the interview with Adam, he is a natural with good old Kiwi humour at the ready. Good you are back on the water.
It was channels like yours that planted a seed in my head. I have now lived on Jingleheimer for over a year with my son Jacob. The dinghy is named Schmidt. Not me. Thanks for the details and research you do. We live like it is 1492 but you seem to drop bits of info at the right time to keep us ahead or aware of some items we should be thinking about. As far as messy goes, the boat gets ripped apart if you are replacing a fuel pump or just looking for a scrubby!
5:23 nice tutu Nikki!
you guys are so dope. thanks for the inspiration
All in all......... an interesting priod of time.. WoW 2 months already!!!!
Oh Hallelujah! You're back in the water!! I'm continually impressed how you two are able to fix most everything yourselves. And I'm always so impressed how meticulous you are with your maintenance and cleaning.
So glad that you're off the hard. It was getting hard to watch you with the continual setbacks that were being thrown your way. But you've persevered and came away victorious!
Well done!
8 weeks wow that's amazing
didn't feel like it
well. done keep going
soooo much work.. all with happiness and light... just ace
It's amazing how far you guys have come, from road life to real sailing pro's. That is no small accomplishment, it's really amazing!!!
I think the one of the things that I admire about the things you do is that when you do repairs, major or minor, you do it the right way. I know that there have been times when it has been impossible to do it right and you “yankee engineer”. When the first opportunity presents itself, you then do it right, or the way you need it. Looking forward to your future adventure.
I just wanted to say that the two of you amaze me! You always keep it real and how you stay upbeat is beyond me! So,so,so much work! You two should be very proud of yourselves 🤩👍🏻😍 Looking forward to all your new adventures 🌴🌟🌊⛵️🥂🐠🐟🦞
So proud of you guys so should you be so proud of yourselves you have worked so hard on your home and have done so much good work. You have had highs and lows but smiled through it all. Onward and upward. You should never worry about things you cannot change. 👍👍👍
Incredible! Excellent! Woohoo!
Congratulations on returning to the water. What is the update on the sails, and for people that might experience floating the world, and having to do this extensive maintenance, what is the round number cost? Good luck on the completion of the work left to be done.
A sail update is coming as soon as they have a resolution, so stay tuned. They have some info posted already on the blog about costs if you haven't seen those. Just look for the "expenses" tab here: www.gonewiththewynns.com/sailing Thanks for sailing with us!
Curious Minion
Wow! @ 8:38 into this video, I could not contain all of the excitement in your voices about getting back the water.. Such a mood changer! SO So Happy for both you! I am certain your insides were smiling as much if not more than me watching you hearing you getting ready for this day! Great Job Jason! On fitting the new anchor! Mazel Tov! Congrats! Woot! Woot! Love You Guys! Let the Adventures begin again! Also Nikki, Have you made it to the doctors in NZ to check on your health, or allergies and all ? Also, the bad Situation with the sails? Any updates? Love Much!
Good to see that fishing rod holders was near the top of your to-do list.
Everything else is just plain gravy.
Im so interested in sailing, so I thought it was amazing you were able show all the problems and things that happen in daily life of sailing, cause a lot of people think its easy and it is far from easy, I have lots of admiration for what you guys do, and im sure it will all be worth it! I also found the bring the boat back to water very informative, on the process, not many people understand how exactly or what exactly it takes to haul a boat out of water dry dock it for 8 weeks snd then put it back in the water and pray for no leaks! So good job guys looking forward to more amazing videos!
Awesome channel. Would love to see them take us along on a tour of the Mediterranean - exploring Italy, the Greek islands, southern coast of France, Morocco, Spain, etc... This sailing channel has the most entertaining hosts by far - just love their infotainment segments when they "consult the mighty rectangle of knowledge"....
Woo hoo! Back in the water.
Congratulations, both of you have put a lot of joy into all the hard work to get the catamaran on the water. Hope both of you will achieve your purpose and your dreams.
Thanks for the laughs, the interview was fantastic. Nice seeing curiosity back where she belongs! I just hope this. Ed variant of virus does not screw up your plans!!
Nikki: We've accomplished a lot, I think all things considered
The only thing in Jason's mind: *C A U L K*
Jason knew exactly what he was doing holding it like that at 2:52 😆
😎
So happy for you all to get back afloat! Best wishes and prayers!
I love kiwi’s and their humour; good people.
Lots accomplished here Nikki and Jason.
My heartfelt congratulations, happy guys!
Excited for you to be back on the soft stuff. A fellow Texan always stuck on the hard.
Woo-who! Yee-haw!! 🤩🥳🥳😍
TOUCH screen is so cool! 😅😁
So happy to see you splash. You have accomplished so much. So so many projects and all the complications you've over come. And have to say the NZ workers you've had helping seem like such awesome people. (And have great smiles while they do the work) NZ is one place I hope to visit one day. Looking forward to seeing you next Sunday. Take good care. - Hugh
Yay! Finally on the water! So happy you two are so very close to heading out there again. Exciting!
Congratulations you are one step closer to Life on the water!
Excellent news that you are back in the water! The repair videos have been very enlightening and enjoyable, ...
Great vid; congrats on the splash, and thanks for the updates!
I’m so glad you found a starter for your generator, and those larger alternators should really help charging the batteries faster.
Congratulations on returning to the water. Stay safe and take care. Love from FIJI 🇫🇯.
Your boat is starting to look great again. Glad to see everything starting to function.
🎉Yay! 🎉And that guy putting her in the water got skills and is SUPER COOL & super handsome with a great smile too.😍💝
It's amazing how much yall do yourself and how knowledgeable you have become.....so cool!!!
Sitting here in Texas with the cooler weather and rain enjoying your last video. So glad you guys are back in the water. Now to finish the last items and get back to enjoying sailing !!!
WELL DONE...GREAT WORK...GOOD JOB....YOU GUYS ROCK!!!
Thank you for making my Sunday morning coffee more enjoyable.
I love watching you knocking out tasks and keeping a positive attitude even when things become frustrating.
So happy to see you splash!!
Hugs 😊❤🏝☀️🌏⛵
Back in he water after so long up on the hard. You have accomplished so much it’s hard to imagine you have so much more to do.
Brilliant attitude you two. I look forward to your cruising once again.
What a beautiful schooner that passes at 16:00
Great to see the two of you back on the water. A lot of countries are shutting down again because of a new variant that is out, I hope it will not affect travels for you. Good luck on getting the last details of repairs completed.
Ray
Yay! Back in the water again. So happy for you guys. The end of the refit is getting closer, and then you can go enjoy all those shiny new toys and windows out on the open water. (Actually you probably already are, but I look forward to seeing it in "TH-cam time.")
Congrats on splashing your boat and being able to prioritize your projects. Still plenty left to do but the good news is you have almost everything you need it is more a matter of time and opportunity rather than need. Looking forward to your progress.
Another great video, full of laughs and entertainment. You always seem to address the questions that pop up when I watch each week, like "Did I miss the Fridge install video". Have a great week and enjoy your summer.
Woohoo! Back in the water at least. Congratulations! Enjoy and stay safe
Breakfast and watching you guys on anchor is the best Sunday ever!
Sweetaz. Got to see you all back on the water. Stress level down a notch for a bit. Enjoy.
So cute . The moment you two are talking about the s s anchor look back at Nik,s wrap from the anchor and it looks like a tutu on a ballerina around her waist. Oh God, you must be so eager to set sail again. God speed.
Getting out of the boat yard and back in the water is such a wonderful accomplishment and feeling. Congratulations!!
She looks almost new! Enjoy your Sundowner guys - you've earned it. Hope you get to enjoy the rest of our country
What a different mood you guys show! You look incredibly happy. I was wondering about the fridge situation and thought I'd missed something. Glad to see I didn't.
Congratulations on the splash and good luck with the rest of the projects!
Awesome splash. Glad everything went well. Keep up the good work and happy sailing ahead.
I love Kiwis, will definitely have to get back there some day. Such a beautiful country and so relaxed!
If you are worried about crevice corrosion on the Mantis anchor, you might want to buy new bolts to put it together the next time you use it. Crevice corrosion, as you know, occurs in the places where there is no oxygen, and the thread of the bolts are where you are least likely to get air in that configuration.
Wahooooooo!!!!!
Team Wynn is heading to the water....means Nikki and masons taking us someplace.
look at the smile on nikkis face.....well worth waiting until today to watch this episode...(its miserably raining on the PNW right now)
cheers from white rock, bc.
Ah yes, the essentials of a catamaran:
- Coffee
- Liquor
- Tomatoes
No idea it had already been 2 months since you got pulled out. Congrats on being back in the water!!
Good morning , it's so good to see you happy!
The time to watch the vid right now but from the comments it sounds like life is good... carry on!
Congratulations. The hard work is paying off. Glad to see the boat back in the water.
So happy for you guys to be back in the water. Sending mahoosive hugs and very best wishes! ☺️👍
Did you note the business name on the vehicle when they started backing you out (10:47)? Wynn Fraser! Wynns are everywhere!
You guys got alot done to Your boat. Thats Awesome. Great Job on it all. The windows you have done look Amazing. You 2 should be very proud of Yourselves. Thats a hard job..You both have a Good out look on things and thats what it takes to Get through stuff life throws at Us...I need to learn that for myself. Thank You .. Great Video Guys...
👍👍👍 YEA! Finally, what a rocky ride your persistence is commendable. I’m so ready to see some more ocean adventures. Stay Safe
Fred in Texas
Congratulations on splashing the boat. I can only imagine how happy you guys were. It would great if all marina workers were as friendly and helpful as the guys at Marsden marina. Those Kiwis seem to be a great bunch of people.
Amazing watching it all come together.
Very happy for you, you're getting a lot of things done. Curiosity will be ship shape. Thank you for the video. Blessings and safe travels. ⛵
You’re back in the water! Awesome. I am excited to see how the new windows turn out. Anyways, I hope you had a happy holiday. See you both next week. Be safe.
Welcome back to the water. I've been watching you two since the RV days and I love your videos. You two are funny and inspiring. Keep it up.
Another great video, as long as the boats antifouled and watertight it's ready.
Great that you are on the ocean, so happy for you!
Can’t speak…you are on the water! Yes…with many jobs still ahead but you ARE making progress in right direction. Congratulations…have a great week and pray for no more glitches or surprises. It’s been difficult for you but together you managed to walk through a very “hard” time ❤️🇨🇦 Here in Canada our Covid numbers continue to climb uncomfortably high.
