Soooo ... I'm sitting here in my small apartment near Tokyo practicing how to hold an imaginary raptor using proper hand and arm positioning, and thinking about the kind and quality of glove I need. Never mind that I don't have the facilities or available habitat or opportunity to have a bird of prey ... I'm still going to practice (and enjoying doing it too). 😁 Thank you Falcon Lady!

@@shaltibalti i em 14 i need to wait till i em 15 than i can start my hunting permit thats cost 1,500 euro then get it with 16 then start a falconry permit for 500 euro and then i em alloed to hafe 2 birds.....nice

Like the saying goes "variety is the spice of life"... even when it comes to animals. I believe thats why so many people are depressed in life... too much repetition.
I first became interested in falcons when a pair of peregrines nested on the top of my office building in San Francisco (in a sheltered area). This was in the mid '90's and falcons were endangered here in California. A nest cam was set up so we could watch the eggs being incubated and hatch--cute little fluff balls. The babies were banded at about 6 weeks of age. It was such fun to watch them grow to be juveniles and finally take the great leap off the ledge (There were trained volunteers on the ground to return the fledgling to the nest in case the initial flight was unsuccessful.) We also could go outside and watch the parents train their kids to fly and hunt. Thank you for showing us how falcons and other birds of prey can be trained to interact and hunt with humans. Your falcon and goshawk are beautiful.
I also became interested in peregrines from the San Francisco group 25 years ago, I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, then the San Jose City Hall birds, this is so fascinating to learn, love seeing Fable as well. I have taught outdoor school for years and we have many raptors. Thanks so much!!

No idea why I just watched a lot of your video's, I don't even own a falcon and I doubt I'll ever do. But I just found it very interesting and I like the way you explain it. Good job.
The best bird I've ever seen fly was a Peregrine called 'Lark' at the Hawk Conservancy, Hampshire. He was the main event that always got the crowd excited. He really did show what a Peregrine can do, and always worked on full tilt. Amazing, and I miss his displays as they were always breathtaking.
I love videos like yours because they show a more intimate view of falconry and most importantly the everyday interactions with the birds. Love the little things, it reminds me of my lovebirds. Big or small, tiny dinosaurs all.

It's always good to learn something new, we sometimes take away life lessons from subjects that we will never approach in own lives. Even if you come to see the love, dedication and discipline that this woman puts into her birds you will gain insight into qualities you might need to excel in your own interests.

Ive loved raptors my whole life used to draw them endlessly as a kid, theres about a .7% chance I will actually get into falconry. But just seeing the birds and learning is great, so beautiful

That was very interesting...awe inspiring too. I can tell you put a lot of work in ... My love for birds grew over 6 yrs ago when long story short I identified over 35 species of bird in my yard and within 3 yrs I was watering and feeding quite a few. One pair had offspring and so on. They told their best mates to come on over. They knew me and would fly down when I whistled. I simply adore them. The closest I came to a Hawk and an Eagle was when the Hawk grabbed a bird on 3 occasions, and in the Eagles case when he grabbed a rabbit. eek
I love this!!! Me and my family visited a falconry while we were in England. The birds are such wonderful creatures, and this brings back memories

Watching your clips has inspired me to consider making my own clips. In my case, it would be about Rottweillers. Sadly, they're often misunderstood, mainly because they're often depicted in films or TV shows as being vicious. There are no bad Rottweilers. There are only bad owners of Rottweilers. Yes, they can be a handful, if you don't understand dog behavior. Not everyone can handle them because they can be quite boisterous. That said, a well-balanced Rottie is a fiercely loyal, loving soul. They're highly intelligent, as well as, comical. All my Rotties have exhibited a distinct sense of humour.
My main reason for making clips has to do with one quality many (but not all) Rotties possess. They growl when they're happy. For anyone not used to this, it could be easily misinterpreted as aggression. Of all the clips I've watched on TH-cam about Rotties, none cover this behavior. Perhaps it's time there was.

EDIT: Question. Do falcons show affection or love? My impression is, they're almost reptilian in this regard.
@Shayne Punim That is an unfortunate story. Since I don't know the family and the dog personally, I can't say precisely why the dog would do that. All I can assume is the dog was ill or not trained correctly. Rottweilers are not for everybody. Their training and discipline is very important. If you don't dominate them correctly, they have a tendency to try and become the alpha since they are highly intelligent.
Personally speaking, all my Rottweilers have been exceptional. This includes my current Rottie, Zeus. Our vet called us to ask if we wanted him because they knew we were experienced with them. Zeus was barely two years old and had three different owners. Sadly, he had been abused and his last owner wanted him to be put down because she couldn't handle him, that was five years ago. At first, he was a handful. However, after proper training, mixed with plenty of love, he's now settled in and is a fantastic member of our family.
@@bullzdawguk Some dogs, just like people, are born with certain personalities/tendencies, its not as simple as "all dogs are good, its the owners fault" theory. I've owned many dogs over the years... two of them being Rottweilers... one of the best dogs I've owned, very smart, gentle, protective and intelligent dog, never needed a leash, if I stopped he stopped, if I took one step he'd take one step, greatly miss that one eyed pooch😔
The "alpha dog" theory has been thoroughly debunked, most notably by the same man who brought the theory into prominence in the 1960's (Dr. David Mech). But even if dominance hierarchy hadn't been debunked, it still doesn't mean it applies to domesticated dogs, since they are not wolves. I've owed "dangerous" dog breeds for 18 years and I've never had to dominate my dogs for them to be well behaved. Positive reinforcement training has worked 100% of the time. And that's the same type of training I see being done with the birds on this channel, so it obviously spans species. :)
Duncan Disorderly I hope you start your own channel, I would definitely subscribe, I had Dobermans all my life, but my family members had Rottweiler, I was afraid of one, he would stand next to you and just start growling.
@@Karadoxical I've never heard of the "Alpha theory" being debunked. I believe there is a hierarchy in all social animals including humans, I took notice of this before I ever heard of the "theory"... it seems obvious to me when looking at the way our society is structured.

I briefly worked in falconnery few years ago, owner just told me my positionning, handling and stability was perfect and i just used to do it the way you showed without ever questionning why i did it the correct way, now i know !

A K I guess I’ve always been fascinated with flight, aerodynamic shapes and trying to understand the complexity of lift using the least amount of energy. Rafters that can ride thermals and pelicans that ride up currents have evolved to take advantage of this. I’m a pilot and have been a flight instructor for 40 years. Birds and their relatives have been around for millions of years. I had to be in there some where!
@@aileron48 Makes perfect sense to me! I feel like the buddhists have it right - that we have lived thousands of previous lives. Flight is friggin cool. I sometimes wonder what it would be like if aliens came to our planet and saw animals moving through the air unsupported. I feel like they would understand things that are bound to the earth by gravity, but I feel like flight would potentially be a totally foreign concept for lifeforms from other planets. I've always loved flight as well. It's like real magic.
@@AK-jt7kh Aliens would totally understand flight and accept it as motion through a fluid, that they would be familiar with. Flight is movement in the third dimension which is awesome.
